Ground Force Maneuver: Why It Still Matters:
Featuring
Major General H.R. McMaster
Commanding General, U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence
Moderated by
Dr. Maren Leed
Senior Adviser, Harold Brown Chair in Defense Policy Studies
As the United States faces a growing range of conventional and unconventional threats, what is the role of ground maneuver warfare in the future global security environment? What capabilities will U.S. ground forces need to operate effectively as part of joint, interdepartmental, and multinational teams? To what degree should the maneuver capabilities of allies and partners affect U.S. force decisions? Please join us for a conversation on these and other questions critical to the future of U.S. ground forces.
The Ground Forces Dialogue is an initiative of the Harold Brown Chair in Defense Policy Studies at CSIS that is aimed at expanding the policy conversation about challenges facing U.S. ground forces over the next decade. The Dialogue includes live events as well as web-based video and audio interviews and original analysis around a series of issues.
Some time ago the folks at IDV Solutions put together some shipping traffic maps for a client by aggregating a one-day range of many vessel tracking feeds, smooshed into a Visual Fusion heatmap, and served up in the web-based client.
With some image export sneakiness (here's how), the heatmap feed is exported in baffling detail, then tossed into the good ol' chalkboard. I have a chalkboard compulsion these days; it's irrational, I can't control it.

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. “Prologue – Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats” additional material written by Trevor Nunn and Richard Stilgoe; ”Memory” additional material written by Trevor Nunn.
The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year—the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories to Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. Among the candidates are the aging theatre cat, Gus; the rocker, Rum Tum Tugger; and the once-glamorous Grizabella, now but a faded memory of her former self.
Boasting a score that includes Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats, Mr. Mistoffelees and Memory, this compelling fable takes audiences to a fantastical world that can only exist in the theatre. Cats has been performed worldwide and translated into over 20 languages. The original West End production ran for 21 years and the original Broadway production ran for 18 years

Inspired by master photographer Eadweard Muybridge’s studies of animal motion, Potion designed the Living Wall along the spacious lobby of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine to further connect the school’s community.
In collaboration with American History Workshop, Potion created the dynamic, wall-mounted displays featuring over 40 animated scenes drawing on Muybridge’s detailed studies of animal motion. The scenes are projected in high definition onto nine screens hand-sculpted by Michael Singer Studios. In addition to motion studies, each scene presents text, photos and video clips, all contributed by the veterinary community, and displayed dynamically through Potion’s generative algorithm. Potion’s web-based content management system allows the school to update and further customize their wall over time.

Saturday, October 5, 2013, was the first full day of solar production as the system became operational late afternoon the day before. This graph in this photo is from the eGauge web-based application showing the 24-hour period of Saturday, October 5. The red on the left side of the graph is the time from midnight to about 8:00 AM and represents power from the electrical grid. The spikes are the A/C cycling on during the early morning hours. The red on the right side represents the time from about 7:00 PM to midnight. A cool front had passed in late afternoon, so no A/C cycling in the evening hours. The green in the middle of the graph represents solar power generated, not used in the house and pushed onto the grid. The dips in the green area are due to occasional cloud cover which affects solar production.

The Patient Christ Visits
By Tonette Orejas
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 23:44:00 03/18/2008
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – After two years of bonding on cyberspace and making what may now be the country’s largest web-based group promoting Philippine religious arts and traditions, the Semana Santa Filipinas has actually gone on a pilgrimage in homes through the traveling icon of the Señor de la Pacencia (The Patient Christ).
The three-foot image of Christ seated in humble acceptance of His death will deviate from the family-based veneration this Holy Week. Its busy journey began on Saturday in the home of the Regala family that hosted a two-day Pabasa in Malolos City in Bulacan until Palm Sunday.
The Pacencia stayed with the Sexons in Antipolo City on Holy Monday and with the Martins in San Miguel, Bulacan, on Holy Wednesday. The Soberano family in Ternate, Cavite, will host on Good Friday. (In Carcar, Cebu, the Ada family is hosting a foot-high twin image for the entire Holy Week.)
The image is bound next year for America and Europe, eager to be received in the homes of SSF members there.
Everything about this Pilgrim Santo project was conceived and executed online. “It’s an idea that began with a flurry of international and domestic e-mails,” says SSF leader Alex Castro. “It’s faith united. Regardless of your station in life, whether here and abroad.”
Santo maker Francisco Vecin donated the image that he carved from baticuling wood. Layered with gesso and painted in oil, the image was completed in December 2007 and has traveled since in the tradition of the cruzadas and block Rosary movements.
Devotional practices
Host families do devotional practices, like novenas and rosaries, to reaffirm their Catholic faith.
The first to host the Pacencia was the Ruiz family in Balagtas, Bulacan. “It was actually a good time to host the image because first of all, my husband is in the Philippines for vacation and we are complete as a family,” said Lulot Ruiz.
“Secondly, we are facing a new year and we would like to start the year right in prayer together.”
The Liongsons in Guiguinto, Bulacan, next hosted the image, passing it on to the family of Robby de la Vega, one of the SSF founders and native of Meycauayan City, also in Bulacan. De la Vega said the presence of Christ and his reminders of the Lenten themes of sacrifice, death and resurrection were what made the pilgrimage “touching.”

For some reason, I enjoy digging through malware and web-based javascript exploits, and the executables they try to download and install - keyloggers and bot clients, looking for strings giving clues as to what the program does with its ill-gotten gains. Perhaps I'm odd, or just enjoy a technical puzzle in a language I sometimes speak.
