Gustavo Thomas Butoh Vlog (Oct 19, 2011):

Weakness / Debilidad

This is part of my daily morning training, and nothing else.

After walking and working with some postures and inner images, a short choreography emerges, that's what you see in this Butoh vlog.

The music you hear is not what I was listened to when I was in the training, it was added later.

If people don't know your weaknesses , they can't use them against you. So hide your tears, and keep your head held high.

I Know What My Weaknesses Are, Probably Better Than You Do online: imtrying.net/ikwmwa

It was a magical day! The day started with low clouds and fog in the Bow River Valley, and reports of snow at high elevations. The first few kilometres were indeed in the fog, but after 7 km's, we arrived at the beautiful Tower Lake with clear skies and not a flake of snow nearby. Rockbound Lake was stunning on the way up and down as well, and even better, there was hardly a breeze all day. Rocky Mountain perfection! That a said, our bodies did feel it, having walked around 27 km's return distance, gaining over 1570 m's, with the many ups and downs. We didn't dawdle, taking only 9 hrs, 45 minutes to complete.

We all have a weakness

Some of ours are easy to identify

Look me in the eye, and ask for forgiveness

We'll make a pact to never speak that word again

Yes, you are my friend

We all have something that digs at us,

At least we dig each other

So when weakness turns my ego up

I know you'll count on the me from yesterday

If I turn into another

Dig me up from under what is covering

The better part of me

Sing this song

Remind me that we'll always have each other

When everything else is gone

We all have a sickness

That cleverly attaches and multiplies

No matter how we try

We all have someone that digs at us,

At least we dig each other

So when sickness turns my ego up

I know you'll act as a clever medicine

If I turn into another

Dig me up from under what is covering

The better part of me

Sing this song

Remind me that we'll always have each other

When everything else is gone

Each other when everything else is gone

If I turn into another

Dig me up from under what is covering

The better part of me

Sing this song

Remind me that we'll always have each other,

When everything else is gone

Each other

damn you Apple and your shiny toys! enticing me to the store with Leopard and then getting me to buy an iPod Touch. Shame!

"Never underestimate the opportunity that comes from being unique!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Do you know how unique you are?

Have you ever thought about your real strengths and weaknesses?

Do you know the superpowers to be found in your uniqueness?

Do you feel trapped in your current reality, and are unsure of how to make a leap into the unknown in order to pursue a different future?

If you do feel trapped within your career, are you willing to take the steps to pursue careers and opportunities that align with your true skill set?

Part of the art of navigating the future is finding the courage to pursue your passions - I did that almost 33 years ago when I left a traditional, boring career structure in order to pursue what eventually became an oddball life as a futurist. My good friend Scott Kress came to visit me yesterday; he also rejected a traditional career path decades ago in order to pursue a life of adventure.

We are each unique, and each of us brings unique insight to our clients - and his visit with me yesterday got me thinking about the power to be found in uniqueness. Scott came over to use my home virtual broadcast studio to film a few promotional clips for his keynotes and team-building exercises. Here's an extract from his work yesterday; at this point, he's speaking about his keynote topic, Achieve the Outrageous.

Scott's a pretty interesting guy - and he's definitely not like me! He's an introvert - I'm a bit of an extrovert.

He's meticulously organized, while I'm totally scattershot. He's meticulous, and I could care less about details. Somehow, we get along. I would guess he is very patient. (He also has a ski chalet near mine, and we regularly hit the hills together - until such time that he gets bored with my slow and careful technique and he needs to just go off and bomb a few high-speed runs. I had the interesting experience of going skiing with him once in Whistler, with another mountaineering buddy of his. Let's just say he's a bit more adventurous than I am, not to mention fit!)

What's his passion? Living out on the edge! Scott has summited Mt. Everest (pictured), scaled the 7 Summits (the tallest peak on each continent), has cross-country skied to the South Pole a few times, and has led various winter expeditions as well as climbs to Mt. Kiliminjaro. His book, Learning in Thin Air, does a remarkable job of outlining his adventures, as well as the unique leadership and team-building insight he shares in his keynotes, workshops, and group exercises.

Scott actually spends a lot of his time with his clients working them through the issues of building great team culture, and so as the world comes back from Covid, he's actually seeing a huge uptick in demand - organizations are seeking how to realign their culture as people slowly come back into the office, whether on a full or part-time basis. Yesterday, when he came to visit me, he was just returning from delivering such a session for Google. The team-building stuff he talks about isn't just motivational fluff - he shares some pretty powerful insight as to how to forge an effective team to scale a summit at 29,000 feet. If you cant' do this - it won't go so well. The same insight is used to help a group discover its cohesiveness and abilities.

Back to the topic of uniqueness - Scott and I could not be more different! And that is to be found in the Myers-Briggs analysis that he does within some of his workshops - it's a powerful way to discover your abilities and strengths.

And this is where each of us is so unique. On the 'test,' Scott is an INFP -

A Mediator (INFP) is someone who possesses the Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Prospecting personality traits. These rare personality types tend to be quiet, open-minded, and imaginative, and they apply a caring and creative approach to everything they do.

Me? I'm totally ENTP!

Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving are the core traits that distinguish an ENTP personality type. Also commonly known as the “debater” personality, ENTPs are confident, outspoken and charismatic.

Give us a room, and I'll be the loudmouth drawing attention - Scott will be sitting to the side, quietly reflective, taking it all in. I think it took him a long time to warm up to me, LOL.

So what is the point of all this?

Everyone brings their own unique skills to their world, learning how to navigate the trends, challenges, and opportunities it presents. Scott excels at leading complex adventures with groups of people, building an effective and cohesive team as he goes. Me? I challenge people to think about their world and how to get there using their enthusiasm and creativity!

Consider this from two perspectives. First, if you aren't thinking about your own unique abilities, or aren't living within them - maybe you should! I remember when I had my first Myers-Briggs back in 1988 when I was going through my career crisis. I was advised that I certainly was NOT like most of the people I worked with in a large professional services firm - I wasn't even close! - and that maybe I should pursue my passion! So I did!

Second, you need different skills at different times to help you navigate and succeed in our increasingly complex world When it comes to Scott and me - I'll tell you what your future is going to look like, and how you need to challenge yourself to get there. Scott will help you actually understand how to get there by discovering your own strengths, and how to build an effective team culture that can lead you there.

Be unique - and build your future through the unique skills you need to get there.

15" Argus Monitor checking the enclosure for weaknesses.

There are 2 Argus monitors in the enclosure. Watching them reminds me of a quote from the movie Jurassic Park referring to the Velociraptors:

"They were testing the fences for weaknesses, systematically".

The 2 in the enclosure literally have checked out every inch of the enclosure.

The one in the photo stuck her tongue through the small space above the back panel and through one of the holes that allow for tubing / cords to be run.

The monitor is shown here scratching away at that area.

The real weakness with the android phones is that the have memory issues they alow you to push the phones to its limit unlike apple with is good at times but causes a very slow experience. Shouldnt havethat problem with this baby.

Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.

Ice cream, especially later at night, is my weakness. Hot fudge cake sundaes at Sonic... mmmmm....

It holds the laptop fine, though the entire weight of the computer is held by only two protruding tabs. I wouldn't want to use this for more than a day or so.

The teacher & apprentice model previously analysed/assessed in the PMI looked at again using the SWOC framework,

Strengths and Weaknesses - being the elements that were apparently known now, seemed to map closely to Positive and Negative in the PMI framework. What was Interesting in the PMI was split in the SWOC into Opportunities and Challenges, this allowed intuitive feelings about the quality of the "interesting" elements to be revealed but also left no space for ambiguity and uncertainess at this point, forcing everything into dualities. In planning something like this however, the greater clarity over what would be challenges felt more useful than the PMI in terms of starting the thought process on how to progress next and what to look out for. I.e. issues like "finances", "venues", "scheduling" and "disgreements" appeared much more clearly as issues to be dealt with. In the PMI, these issues only appeared as Negatives.

This was one the moments of weakness where you think you have a good idea but as you start to act on it, you have second thoughts. I saw a Halo Master Chief Halloween mask at a local store. I picked it up for $40 and had the idea to glue it to a motorcycle helmet. Several hours later, I'd glued the two halves to the helmet, bondo-ed the bits in between and spent hours painting to make this helmet. A couple of other interesting things; I supported the hallow interior of the Halloween mask with foam core pieces and filled with spray foam. Squishy, but okay. The gold visor which makes the helmet inconic was the hardest piece of the project. Instead of using a pre-fab gold motorcyle one, I tried to make my own. Which is why I ended up putting a bullet hole in it to cover up how poorly it turned out.

New Health App Shows Strengths, Weaknesses So You Can Improve Eating Patterns

Erin Harris

Nov 4, 2011

www.the33tv.com/about/station/newsteam/kdaf-the-eatery-ap...

Those of you watching your figure, looking to trim down before the holidays get the best of you, you're gonna love this new app called The Eatery.

Simply put, it's not concerned with how many calories are in your every meal. It's all about you, your eating trends, and making you aware of them.

Here's how it goes: Take a picture of your food all nice and pretty. Then rate it on a scale of fat to fit.

You can choose to share your uploads with friends and people nearby who can give you a thumbs up or down.

Knowing your food pics will be seen by others will probably encourage you to eat healthier, but the real power is in the analysis. The Eatery gives you data you can actually use to curb those unhealthy habits.

For instance, you might discover you tend to make poor decisions when you wait till 3PM to eat lunch. Who can blame you? But now you know to not wait until you're famished.

We're not talking lose 30 pounds in two weeks. It's about whether you are eating better today than yesterday, this week vs. last week. Baby steps, folks.

The Eatery is available now for free in the App Store.

This dish is always a weakness of mine when ordering Chinese takeaway but I always find myself disappointed by the tiny amount of pork they put in there surrounded by tonnes of batter and in a too sweet/simply flavoured sauce. Well I made this at home following a recipe in my new (copy of an old) authentic Chinese cookery book, and it was really yummy. The sauce is quite simple, but it tastes a whole lot better made at home and with proper sized portions of pork.

I'll probably get round to posting the recipe on my blog soon: bathosphere.org/emstar/category/food/
