Frühling ist die Musik der Natur

Blaue Kronen-Anemone

We all know that a rainy day can yield beautiful saturated colors. We also know that a blah sky usually accompanies a rainy or overcast day. All three of the previous images were shot on the same rainy day. I was happy to be out shooting fall color even with the gray sky. But I was beyond happy the very next day, when the Leelanau was blessed by sunshine, blue sky and huge white clouds.

We had it confirmed yesterday that our dear Flickr friend, Gérard had left us. I say confirmed because I had noticed he had not reappeared as he always did and the days of his absence were increasingly disturbing. I thought about him often of late...his loyalty, consistent presence and most of all his humor. He is the only one I've ever known who I could really hear laugh when he wrote "LOL."

It's funny how this medium can actually develop what can only be defined as real friendships when one anticipates and looks forward to daily interactions and comments. I recall the shock I felt when he informed us of his condition...and clearly recall also the shock he himself felt in just those few dramatic words. I eagerly awaited his return to Flickr from his treatments and, when he did, marveled at his spirit during this impossibly difficult time.

Gérard and I shared musical tastes and frequently exchanged YouTube links we thought appropriate to an image or an expressed thought. In many ways, we were on the same "wave length" and we discussed and mourned the losses in the musical arena this year. And now he has joined them. It has indeed been a year of loss.

So adieu, mon ami. You will be missed deeply by many, as myself, who have never met or even spoken to you...a tribute indeed. Oh, and I can tell that's you captured in this image by the white head...;-)

And one more link to carry you onward...

Today, spring has come to southern Sweden.

But near Stockholm it´s raining as usual this winter.

Happy weekend dear friends.

We've done it, we moved into our new home on Sat 24th, still lots to do but we've settled in, so I will try and get back to commenting more now, still rather busy to get out with the camera, so it will have to archive stuff for a bit longer. I don't want to move house ever again, ha ha

We had a section of our road paved this year and it provided a nice black background for the pine needles and leaves that had fallen during a bit of rain we had. The spacing made for these great patterns. Provided a bit of low key balance to the dried fireworks flowers.

We don't touch the foxes ever, but he likes to get close!! and he's very sociable and photogenic!! Captured at British Wildlife Centre, UK

We're heading off soon, so this is my last cottage photo in this binge week. I'll probably see you again around Thursday, but it could be a little sooner or a little later. Play nicely in my absence.

Silence can always be broken by the sound of footsteps walking over frozen ground in winter, when the melancholy trees stand abject and let their branches freeze.

We are having a nice wet spring this year, and that translates to snow in the mountains. We went and shot Mt. Hood in the lower light, it had a little pink in the clouds and the sun highlighted the top of the mountain.

Mount Hood is located approximately 90 minutes outside of Portland on the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties. Mount Hood stands at 11,239 feet (3,425 meters). It is the highest point and mountain peak in the state of Oregon, and the second most climbed mountain in the world (second only to Japan’s holy Mt. Fujiyama).

We literally walked out of Timberline Lodge, at Mt Hood, up a small slope and got this great vantage point shot.

We watched the sunset gradually until it was dark! More photos will follow...........!!!

Every year around this time, these two Sandhill Cranes' come to our area for a few months. Bucks County PA.

We had been away for a while, and when we came back to our old country house, I saw this “spot” of about 1 cm² outside on the kitchen window. I thought a young bird had crashed and made this, but later noticed that the spot had changed shape. Taking a better look revealed that the spot was actually many small spider babies. Sometimes close in a bunch, later more spread, then close again. I let them live there until one day the spot was gone, and now I have hundreds of small spiders around my house, I guess :-)

we are mourning the loss of a very popular and vibrant grade 11 student at our school this week and it has been a hard go for his friends...a reminder that they really are not invincible... On explore @#73, May 6/09, up to 50 May7, #45 May 8/09, 41 on May 9

Weather patterns have definitely become more extreme...in some of the bushfire areas there were welcoming rain but it pours so heavily that flash flooding is now a problem. Some area received 3 years of rainfall in a space of 12 hrs!

I could not resist and chose this title because these nine mini clothespins (1cm x 4mm in size each) look like dancers in a disco :))

Happy sunday all

We are reaching the penultimate station now.

You can see an interpretation of the very dynamic station "Am Hart" with this wonderful wavy lamp. Made for surfers, who are not afraid of very cold water :-)
