My evenings these days are spent watching TV while "working" in the laptop, which often just means exploring Flickr or chatting with some friend thousands of miles away, usually a day behind them. On Monday nights, on the History Channel, they run a show called "American Pickers," which is about a couple of scavengers who comb through dirty barns and basements all over the East looking for sellable vintage collectibles and junk. So many of the people they visit are packrats, or the sons or daughters of former packrats, and the old stuff that still exists is amazing! One of my uncles used to collect stuff like this- he had an old phonograph that had been owned by one of his relatives that played wax cylinder recordings!! He worked for Mobil oil, so he had all kinds of old "Mobilgas" signs. I wonder where all of that stuff went to when he died. I hope his son and daughter made some money off of that stuff!!!
Looking at parts of my house (and my garage), I am a borderline kind of person that the American Pickers wold come to visit...

I lived in Alaska for many years but moved Outside in early 2013. This was my first trip back since then. It was bittersweet - Alaska, especially Anchorage, seems to have changed and not for the better. We also hit some ugly weather - one week of rain, cold, and gloomy skies. Bummer. However, we did take a Kenai Fjords cruise out of Seward on the only nice weather day we had. I'm in love with glaciers and this was a great cruise. The waters on Resurrection Bay were smooth as glass, the scenery was incredible. The captain took us to see an active pod of Orca whales before heading up Aialik Bay to sit at the base of Aialik Glacier. We saw some calving action but I was too slow with the camera to capture it. On the way back to Seward we stopped by a small waterfall and sea lion colony - pretty cool but the smell was nasty. We definitely need to go back to Alaska again in the near future!

On Easter Sunday (3-31-24), I dropped by Frear Park in Troy, New York, USA, looking for early signs of Spring. I noticed a flock of Canada Geese, feeding. One member of the flock was keeping watch to protect the flock from danger! One of two images.
