This week in SSC:
"Go out, wander about, and share your photo of whatever you see that you find interesting, if you're not up to getting out, then a wander around your home is fine, the main thing is that it shouldn't be a planned or a set up shot, such as a composed still life, just what you notice as you wander about."
As I bravely wandered into the TV room I looked out the window and who should I see but this beautiful young buck. It has been very stormy and windy here this week and he was on his guard. I learned a little trick with the deer years ago. If you wave to them each time you see them, especially when they're babies, they get used to that. He relaxed as soon as I waved at him and I was able to take several pics. He was probably born nearby and visited many times with his momma. (Another pic of him below.)
...and for "Sight and Sound"
Lunatic Soul from the album "Lunatic Soul II" (2010)
For a couple years I did a lot of windshield time between SW Missouri and the Quad Cities. Since there were lots of route options, I would vary my path depending on timing and trains! During this trip, I found a westbound lumbering down the K Line between Keokuk and Quincy and nailed him at the old CB&Q depot in Canton, MO.
The K Line is the BNSF Hannibal Sub between Burlington, IA and North St. Louis, MO running along the Mississippi River for the length of the route. During the Powder River coal boom, it became an important corridor to bring coal loads downriver. While the line above West Quincy is generally sleepy, one doesn't usually have to wait long for another coal train to roll by.
Did the Gevo's really look nicer 13 years ago?!?!

Seriously, the activity on my photo stream has gone crazy last week. Two explores in a row, woah. Not sure if I like it since it all seems to be so impersonal and meaningless.
But thanks to everyone who has constantly been there to support me, I couldn't love you more <3
I took this shot somewhere inside Heidelberg castle.Sanjay and our son Siddharth had gone inside to see a museum.I was a little tired with our wanderings and decided to have a bit of rest. While I was enjoying a few quiet moments and day dreaming about the past of this grand old castle my eyes fell on this little corner cafe with the pretty white umbrellas.I hope my friends find it as soothing as I did.
Its Sunday, so things a bit quiet and two of the yard shunt locos are seen snoozing near the depot building in Palmerston North.
24 of these locos were purchased new from Toshiba Heavy Industries in Japan, arriving here in batches between 1981 and 1983.
They are all fitted with remote control.
This probably should be called Woodland Wonderings as there are many times when I'm wandering through the wood that I just stop and soak up the atmosphere. The birds singing, wind rustling the tops of the trees, noises in the undergrowth from something small and always unseen. Its a wonder I ever get round at all!

I am lucky enough that just a short walk across a beautiful bridge brings me to this amazing forest in a city called Forest Park. Maybe one or two lucky times each winter it becomes Snowy Forest Park. It is a good place to be on such days. The only difficulty comes when trying to extricate myself from amidst its quiet, snowy embrace. Neither of us ever seems to want to let go first.

Autumn is slowly coming to an end in our part of the world and this prompted me to review some of my old unprocessed images from the fall of 2018. This year I gave the autumn season in Australia a bit of a miss, as I am hoping to make up for that in the European autumn in the second half of the year. This photo comes from Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne in Victoria.
Union Pacific's Park City Local rambles through the small town of Wanship, Utah on April 15, 1983. The trio of EMD GP30s on the head end are approaching the Weber River pile trestle pulling 10 loads of phosphorus rock from Phoston. Kodachrome image captured from a very old (and very rickety) cattle loading chute.
