A wood effect Metamec electric wall clock. Probably my least liked Metamec clock! I can't stand 'wood effect' that was popular in the 70's. I have it to remind me how bad design could be!

hung woven stretcher the shape of a man designed to bring injured workers down from nearby mountains, Main passage at the former Quarry Hospital. The pioneering Dinorwig Quarry Hospital is now a museum housing some of the original equipment from the 1800's. Restored Ward and Operating Theatre, original X-Ray Machine and other bits of gruesome medical equipment, park related exhibitions and a Mortuary! This old hospital in Llanberis was for the men who worked at the Dinorwig Quarry in the 19th and 20th centuries. The idea was to have a hospital close to their place of work so they could get back to work as soon as possible after they received treatment. There were over 3,000 workers in the Dinorwig quarry and there were a lot of accidents - broken bones, lost fingers, crush injuries and worse. The Dinorwig hospital remained until the coming of the NHS in the 1950s.

This shop, seen a few weeks before the hard lockdown in 2020, featured an array of old-school analogue clocks. The "zhong zhong zhong" decoration on the nearest one presumably is an imitation of the "ding dong" sounds of chiming.

My parents Westclox Rainbow Electric Wall Clock that they received as a wedding gift in 1959 still going strong in more or less the same position an impressive 55½ or so years later.

The Westclox rainbow clock colour ring seen here in red also came with interchangeable rings in yellow and blue but these have sadly been lost in the intervening years.

I've estimated since this clock was installed the second hand has rotated around the face some 29,242,080 times, the minute hand has rotated some 487,368 times and the hour hand has rotated about 40,614 times..

Note the 1950s/1960s 'MK Electric' hardwired socket.

"Sterling & Noble" battery-operated quartz movement 11-1/2 inch diameter analog wall clock purchased at Walmart three years ago for less than ten bucks.

Other Household Members were laughing at me this past weekend when I used my "atomic time" wristwatch to set the nine-dollar plastic Walmart wall clock to the exact time down to the second following the switch to Daylight Saving Time.

After six days, I can report that the cheap plastic clock is still running accurately to the second relative to the "atomic time" timekeeping signal broadcast from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Voronezh is a city and the administrative centre of Voronezh Oblast in southwestern Russia straddling the Voronezh River, located 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) from where it flows into the Don River. The city sits on the Southeastern Railway, which connects western Russia with the Urals and Siberia, the Caucasus and Ukraine, and the M4 highway (Moscow–Voronezh–Rostov-on-Don–Novorossiysk). In recent years the city has experienced rapid population growth, rising in 2021 to 1,057,681, up from 889,680 recorded in the 2010 Census, making it the 14th-most populous city in the country.

From 10 to 17 September 2011, Voronezh celebrated its 425th anniversary. The anniversary of the city was given the status of a federal scale celebration that helped attract large investments from the federal and regional budgets for development.

On December 17, 2012, Voronezh became the fifteenth city in Russia with a population of over one million people.

Today Voronezh is the economic, industrial, cultural, and scientific center of the Central Black Earth Region. As part of the annual tradition in the Russian city of Voronezh, every winter the main city square is thematically drawn around a classic literature. In 2020, the city was decorated using the motifs from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. In the year of 2021, the architects drew inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen as well as the animation classic The Snow Queen from the Soviet Union. The fairy tale replica city will feature the houses of Kai and Gerda, the palace of the snow queen, an ice rink, and illumination.

I found this clock at a flea market. It was made by E. Ingraham Co. Bristol, Conn.

I'm guessing it is from the 30's. I like the unusual numerals.

Forget-me-not on the riverbank. These are the footprints of Lutra lutra, the European Otter, our native species here in the UK. Sadly I have never seen one, footprints may be as close as I ever get to this elusive creature.

I'm so fed up with scraping mud out of my house that I intend to replace the furnishings to co-ordinate with it. You can now have mud on anything or EVERYTHING and no need to clean up! It's going to save a bunch of time.

Evoking the remnants of the British Raj and India's struggle for freedom, Bikaner is today responding to the call of digital freedom through the FOSS movement. Meanwhile, this victorian-era clock measures time accurately at the reception of Sagar Hotel, Bikaner. www.sagarhotelbikaner.com

Invited to deliver talks at Rajasthan’s largest and most prestigious engineering college which is spread across 337 acres: the Engineering College of Bikaner (ECB) www.ecb.ac.in/.

ECB has around 6,000 students enrolled on its campus, out of which around 2,500 alone are in IT and Computer Science courses.

Delivered two talks on Linux and Free & Open Source Software (FOSS): ‘How to Avoid the Axe Effect’; and ‘How to Make a Dent in the Universe’. The talks were delivered at the ‘FOSS GN09 event’ which was cleverly dove-tailed with the college’s yearly techfest mega-event, called ‘Sakshama’. An ancient Sanskrit word, ‘Sakshama’ means ‘skilled; competent; adept’. The 2009 incarnation of the event, held from 28th to 31st October, was called ‘Sakshama GN09’, to highlight ‘Generation Next’. www.sakshama.org.

And what a Generation Next! They also sought my help and mentoring in launching their own on-campus Linux Users Group (LUG), www.lugb.in. Am quite impressed with their active mailing-lists and outreach activities. These guys and gals are rocking! Together with its founders, we launched LUG-Bikaner at the ‘Sakshama GN09’ event-night, on an outdoor stage in front of an audience of over 2,500.

ECB has around 1,200 computers on-campus, and with the personal laptops and desktops of students, totals at around 4,000 PCs. Till date, LUG-Bikaner has migrated over 500 computers to Linux, and still counting. Plus, they also reach out to other colleges and institutions within Rajasthan to spread the awareness of this ‘muft and mukt’ vision of computing. After all, who can understand freedom better than the royal state of Rajasthan in India?
