Friday was Arbor Day, so it made sense to run to the Morton Arboretum after work and spend some time with the trees. It was a perfect afternoon. Temperatures in the upper 60s F and sunny with a light wind. A glorious way to end my workweek. The trees seemed especially happy; maybe it's time for them to put their leaves on at last, after this long, cold spring after the long, snowy winter.
The cedar waxwings weren't in its branches like they were in winter, but there are daffodils on the hill around it. I'll take the daffodils right now, thank you.

These nice yellow flowers start to bloom in early fall when all the other plants are winding down for the summer. Not sure what they're called, but they bloom all the way up each branch.

Did the alarm clock realy just go off 15 times? Is it really time for me to get up? Do I have to go to work today, and finish all of my report cards? Nevermind that I've procrastinated on them and waited until the night before to finish all 25 of them?? ugh.... I wanna go back to SLEEP!

when I woke up this morning the sun was shining beautifully in through the window...
I find myself trying to capture light through the pictures I take, endlessly facinated by the play of light and dark, shadow and brilliance. the beauty of light is that even though you can never touch it, it is one of the most tangible things I know.

... just know that they are very efficient about kicking you out at 4am. A Chicago police officer goes around saying "wake up, 4am, hate to be the bearer of bad news." And before you can ask "do you come with a snooze button?" your cot is gone (as you can see from the data, this was taken at 4:03am).
