Ithaca gave you the wonderful voyage. Without her you would not have set out on your way. Yet she has nothing more to give you (Constantine Cavafy). Painted lead, two LED spotlights. Conversion from raw in macOS High Sierra photo editor.

Kwara, Botswana, November 2019
Kwara really made up for the few lion sightings we had in Khwai with a few small prides of lionesses with cubs.
These cub was with a relaxed pride of 2 females and seven cubs that were found in the late afternoon. We spent a little time with them.

A little flower I found last weekend was beginning to show some life.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)
My final butterfly of the season,a super Adonis warming up in the early morning sun...see you next year......
I would like to thank all those who have viewed, faved and commented on my butterfly shots.
This has been my second season photographing these amazing creatures,a steep learning curve..! Many frustrating hours trying to get shots of illusive subjects, but thoroughly enjoying it.
Some great highs, like the morning looking for Purple Emperors at Bookham Common, whilst chatting to a couple of fellow butterfly enthusiasts an Emperor landed on the back of my trousers,my wife, who saw the event didn't know what to do,she knew if she alerted me,the butterfly would fly..it rested on my leg for about 15seconds,then flew off between me and the other photographers...amazing.
My nemesis butterflies...one,in particular, the White Admiral...a stunning butterfly, especially when perched, wings closed.Seen many, but boy are they flighty..!!!
Anyway..next year.Thanks all.
First you have to work out the kinks so you even can get up!
Then you wonder why your neck doesn't want to move-don't
even think about left or right!
Dry mouth-tongue stuck to the roof of your mouth!
Then there is bed hair-mirror, you are not ready for me!
Other wise, it's a fine day! ;-)

A good stretch and a yawn.
As we all know there's nothing quite like a good stretch and a yawn when you wake up, as this Alaskan brown bear, waking up in a grassy meadow, demonstrates. This bear had been sleeping near the tree line by the shores of Cook Inlet, Alaska.

Lake Daylesford is an artificial lake in the town of Daylesford, Victoria, Australia. It was completed in either 1927 or 1929 after many years of campaigning, beginning in 1893. It was designed by Walter Burley Griffin, the American architect who won the competition to design the city of Canberra. Lake Daylesford was formed when the dam wall was built across Wombat Creek above the Central Springs in 1929. The town wanted an ornamental body of water to beautify the scarred creek landscape.
Primary inflows : Wombat Creek
Primary outflows : Molonglo River
Average depth : 2m (6.6 ft)
Maximum depth : 9m (30 ft)
The lake is about 112 km north-west of Melbourne CBD. From the Dja Dja Wurrung people, who first inhabited the land thousands of years ago, to the Swiss Italian migrants of the gold rush and Melbourne's turn-of-the-century holidaymakers, Daylesford has long been considered a special place of healing.
This was taken shortly after dawn. The water was still, and the reflections of autumn foliage and the barren poplars on the lake were like mirror images. For some reasons, there was a bluish-purple tinge hovering over the lake surface. The warm morning light was trying to peep through gaps/holes between trees, striking/conjuring up a golden magical scene.
Kwara really made up for the few lion sightings we had in Khwai with a few small prides of lionesses with cubs.
Our first encounter was with a very shy pride, several females with large cubs, that we spent a good part of a morning tracking (we were really looking for dogs but picked up lion prints). When we did find the cats they bolted from the bushes they were hiding in. They had either had a bad experience with vehicles in the past or had never had much contact with humans. Given the expanse of wilderness in this part of Botswana, I like to think it was the latter.
These two cubs were with a more relaxed pride of 2 females and seven cubs that were found in the late afternoon. We spent a little time with them.
This is my daughter, getting ready for school. She made it as far as the bathroom mat before reverting.
Our bed of Lantana is finally waking up! The other day we spotted quite a few of its colorful little blooms beginning to show up!
Won't be long now before the butterflies and hummers start checking them out!
Went out to grab some shots after a brief morning shower, and was tickled to see itty bitty rain droplets on some of those itty bitty petals.
My 2nd day back home and up at 5 am to enjoy the quiet of the world waking up. I was lucky to see this before it disappeared.

This picture will always remind me how beautiful it is to learn new things.
how beautiful it is to fail.
to try. to fail. to try anyway.
The magnolia tulip tree in our front yard has finally started to wake up. Buds are slowly starting to appear, with some just about ready to open.
With the official First Day of Spring just around the corner, our front and back yards are getting ready to celebrate in grand style. Fingers crossed I'll be able to capture some of that beauty, too!
