With spring just around the corner, and the garden starting to wake up, our azaleas are also beginning to show signs of life.

This white azalea is way ahead of the others, like it wants to show the others how it's done.

...in life, each person can take one of two attitudes: to build or to plant. The builders might take years over their tasks, but one day, they finish what they're doing. Then they find they are hemmed in by their own walls. Life loses its meaning when the building stops.

Then there are those who plant. They endure storms and all the many vicissitudes of the seasons, and they rarely rest. But, unlike building, a garden never stops growing. And while it requires a gardener's constant attention, it also allows life for the gardener to be a great adventure.

Gardeners always recognize one another, because they know that in the history of each plant lies the growth of the whole World.

It's early pre-dawn and we must ask ourselves:

Are we seeing somebody rising?

Or witness do we, a sight so unsweet,

lamenting a loved one and crying?

Over my recent 3-day weekend, my friend Jess Yarnell invited me to visit on a sandhill crane family whom had recently had a newborn colt. What do you think I said? Heck yeah!

We arrived bright and early at the nest and the air was quite cool that morning, so we had great hopes of finding this young one in the wings of one of its parents. Sure enough ... we could see one parent standing and another laying down on the mound at the nest. It kept checking on something under its wing, which of course we knew was the little one. As we anxiously awaited the little one to present itself, I could feel the excitement building. Finally, that moment arrived and up popped its fuzzy little head, as it peered around to orient itself again to its surroundings. Click, click, click went the cameras. In the excitement of the moment, I inadvertently clipped a tiny bit of the mom's beak -darn it. The moment didn't last long, as the parent quickly stood up and the colt tumbled out of its wings, through its legs, and onto the ground! It was quite comical!

When I looked at this image, I thought, wow, that's the ultimate and original featherbed! Thanks so much to Jess for inviting me to share in this special moment and wonderful morning that we spent with that lovely family.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful Monday! Thanks for stopping by to view and especially for all of your thoughts and comments!

Frederick, slowly waking up from a much-needed nap on a pallet on the floor. Is there really anything better than a nap on a pallet on the floor? Maybe not, these days.

But when *we* were young, the very best naps were the ones we took curled up in the floorboard between the door and the hump over the drive shaft. These days, kids are strapped into their heavily padded, safe and secure boosters with the five-point harness and double sippy-cup-holders. Obviously they are a lot safer there, and Frederick is always strapped in.

He'll never know what it's like to curl up with a pillow and a blanket on a warm floorboard with the rumble of the engine and exhaust and the road noise, traveling hour after hour at night, with only the dim glow of the dashboard as a nightlight.

We always felt safe and secure with Dad at the wheel, and didn't have a care in the world as state lines and small towns drifted past the windows.

Of course, the reality was that none of us were very safe. We didn't have seat belts until Dad bought his midlife crisis car, a 1966 2-door Dodge Coronet 440, and all it had was lap belts. No shoulder harness, no air bags, no anti-lock brakes, no crumple-zone front end - not much of anything we take for granted today that protects us if something bad happens. Sure - we survived - but some did not.

I wonder how much that lack of protection had (and still has) on those of us who lived through it. I feel like some people today lean on those safety measures way too much. They think even if something bad does happen, they'll be protected. Maybe. Maybe not. You might survive, but being hit by an airbag is no laughing matter, and most cars still do a poor job of protecting us from broken legs in a severe front-end collision.

Hopefully by the time Frederick starts driving his flying, self-driving electric vehicle, things will improve, safety-wise. But they better hurry - he's growing fast!

Tono came to Europe to contact resellers of his hats. He posted a message in the Queer Couchsurfers group and decided to put Holland on his visit list and stay with me for a few days. Tono is a very relaxed guy, who knows how to enjoy and take the most out of life. We became friends while we were having lots of fun partying, walking with the dog, sightseeing, making dinner and we shared some serious talks too. I took him out to a multicultural gay party in Basta, where he met several other latin guys. They danced so cool and hot! Two guys wanted to join us in the taxi back home, we found out that one of them is living just around the corner of my house. It was already 3 am but the guy invited us for a drink at his place. After drinking a beer the latin guys started taking off their and our pants.... I realized they wanted to make a naughty home party. Although the guys were really good-looking and hot I was not in the mood for this kind of fun, as I had to get up at 7 am to be in time at my work. So I went home to sleep. Tono stayed as he was enjoying himself very well. A few weeks later Tono came back to The Hague again, to visit me before flying back to Ecuador.

This is what I saw the day I left Tropoja.

We're in Fierze, on the shores of Koman Lake.

Teek always wakes up before us. Occasionally he'll bring presents to entice me out of bed. This morning I woke up with Bee, Otter, Toupee and a mitten on my stomach.

Y aquí está la cuarta canción de Waking Up. Es una canción bien divertida, así que busca el link en la letra y escúchala. :)

Fun fact #1: Sí, son billetes de US$10, jaja.

Fun fact #2: Eso es pintura al frío, no pintura labial porque las odio.

And here it is, the fourth song of Waking Up. It's a really fun song, so look for the link in the lyrics and listen to it. :)

Fun fact #1: Yes, they're US$10 bills, haha.

Fun fact #2: That's paint, not lipstick because I hate those.

Well, hail Caesar's shadow on my backseat

And her friends all standing right in front of me

Worldwide from the Cimmarron to Turkey

Open up, said everybody loves me

And you don't have to make a sound

Cause they got what you need

What you need

Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

Got love for the people that have warned you

God love all your sentimental virtue

Eight balls with the takers that'll make you

Lay cards with the lovers that'll hate you

And you don't have to make a sound

They got what you need

What you need

Like you say

Oh my, feels just like I don't try

Look so good I might die

All I know is

Everybody loves me

Head down

Swaying to my own sound

Flashes in my face now

All I know is

Everybody loves me

Everybody loves me

Well I

Play the music, don't stop 'til I turn gray

Stars forever like John Sousa never fade

He had a beautiful child, named her Desiree

Hope I'm remembered for the things that I never made

'Cause you don't have to make a sound

When they got what you need

Like you say

Oh my

Feels just like I don't try

Look so good I might die

All I know is

Everybody loves me

Head down

Swaying to my own sound

Flashes in my face now

All I know is

Everybody loves me

Everybody loves me

Everybody, everybody, oh!

Everybody, everybody!

Don't need my health

Got my name and got my wealth,

I stare at the sun just for kicks all by myself,

I lose track of time, so I might be past my prime

But I'm feeling oh-so good

Yeah!

Oh my, feels just like I don't try

Look so good I might die

All I know is

Everybody loves me

Head down

Swaying to my own sound

Flashes in my face now

All I know is

Everybody loves me

Everybody loves me

Oh I say, everybody, everybody

Don't you know who you are,

I say everybody

Everybody

Everybody
