My last shot of a surprising good winter chase day on the Wheeling. Nice to see many of the 'Land's usuals at other spots between Monroeville and Kidron. And to TC for the initial tip that I probably had time for the hour and 10 minute drive to Monroeville (I had an hour and 15). They were able to make pretty quick work of recovering from stalling on Hartland Hill since there was a 227 waiting for them at Hartland that came to rescue them. From there on, it was no stops until Brewster. February 7, 2021
A pair of N&W high hoods lead a couple of D&H GE's on an Eastbound D&H freight stopped for a crew change in Hornell, NY in August 1977. Another goodie from my first trip to Hornell.

Marsh Owl (Asio capensis ssp.tingitanus) in flight Morocco_North Africa_w_0363
The Morocco Marsh Owls are an isolated and dwindling population. So much so that they are now a critically endangered species in Morocco.
This fragmented population is geographically separated from other breeding Marsh Owls by the huge arid area to the south called the Sahel. The Moroccan Marsh Owls are in fact a sub-species Asio capensis ssp. tingitanus. The only other other sub-species is Asio Capensis hova, in Madagascar.
The main cause of their decline in Morocco is habitat loss due to draining of large marsh areas with the expansion of agriculture.

W&LE 663 swapped scrap empties for loads with Omnitrax's Cleveland & Cuyahoga on November 1st, 2021 at Glen Willow. The 302 (and 701 in tow) have the loads tacked behind while everyone's favorite Cleveland Cuyahoga Conductor is getting his empties lined up for the trip back to the scrap dealer. In the background Solon's Mt Garbage Dump might likely become the highest elevation in the county.
The 302 is a GP40-3 originally built for PC that later spent time on the D&RGW. It still carries the Action Orange of the Rio Grande even though it was rebuilt by the Wheeling. Seems it probably always will as it is clearly the railroad owners preference. This was my first experience with the higher speed limits on the Cleveland sub. No longer is it the leisurely 10 mph chase. It's pick your spots because you won't get many now.
I composed this photograph while hiking in Utah's Snow Canyon State Park. It is of a Cholla Cactus, presented in monochrome.
Best not to approach Chola cacti too closely. Their sharp spines transfer easily, so easily that some Cholla Cacti are referred to as "Jumping Cholla."
