On the occasion of Cathédrale de Lumière, the Métropole Rouen Normandie and the Normandie Impressionniste festival have entrusted the American visual artist, playwright and director Robert Wilson with the creation of the new audiovisual work projected on the façade of the monument immortalized by Monet. A dreamlike, abstract work that puts into perspective the texts of the African American poet Maya Angelou accompanied by the sublime piano studies of Philipp Glass.
With his Rouen creation, he confronts his abstract universe with a solid building and seizes the history of a city that has suffered, creating powerful images from which emerge the vulnerability and beauty of human existence. This unique show is a declaration of love to human history, in its most moving and complex sense. A monumental artistic event not to be missed.
The poems are read in English by the author and Bob Wilson himself, and in French by Isabelle Huppert who lends her voice to the Rouen show. Students from Fontenelle College and Corneille and Flaubert High Schools also recorded readings of the poems, in English and French, in the BTS audiovisual recording studio at Corneille High School.

Después del período decría, la muda que afecta a las plumas de vuelo convierte este momento en uno de los mas vulnerables en el ciclo de vida de los limícolas.

This is a Macaroni Penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus). The scientific name means fine diver with the golden crest. There are six species of yellow-crested penguins but Macaronis can be distinguished by the sad clown mouth as they have a down-turned gape. Like most penguins they feed mainly on krill, which are shrimps about 2cm long. The water-soaked plumage of tiny feathers on the back looks just like fish scales. The name Macaroni was an eighteenth century slang word for a dandy and the name stuck for the penguin after the original meaning had drifted into obscurity. Apparently dandies of this period often wore feathers in their hats. This was photographed at a breeding colony at Cooper Bay on South Georgia. Unfortunately this Penguin is in trouble and the population on South Georgia declined by 50% between the 1950s and 1990s so it has been classed by IUCN as vulnerable. The decline is probably due to reductions in their favourite food krill.

The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the cat family (Felidae). The lion is sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females with a typical weight range of 150 to 250 kg (331 to 551 lb) for the former and 120 to 182 kg (265 to 401 lb) for the latter. Male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species.
It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern. - Source Wikipedia

TODAY is International Tiger Day. Global Tiger Day is celebrated every year on July 29th to raise awareness about this magnificent but endangered big cat. The day was founded in 2010, when the 13 tiger range countries came together to create Tx2 – the global goal to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022.
If you want future generations to see tigers in the wild and not just in zoos, it is time to act today to save tigers in the wild before they are gone. The first comment section shows a Malayan tiger at my local zoo. In the wild there are only 90 to 120 individuals left.

The impact of loss can vary depending on the age of the person experiencing it.
A Columbia University study found that losing a loved one can accelerate biological ageing, which is the gradual decline in how well organs, tissues, and cells function. This can lead to an earlier onset of chronic diseases and mortality.
The death of a loved one triggers the body to produce cortisol, which can lower immune function. Older adults already have declining immune systems as part of ageing, so they are especially vulnerable to illness during grief.
Older adults may experience social isolation and loneliness after the death of a loved one. Loneliness can increase the risk of health conditions like depression, stroke, heart disease, and suicide.

Marine iguana (Amblyrhynchus cristatus) - Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos National Park, Ecuador
A shot of the coastline showing off the large numbers of marine iguanas present. If you look carefully you will see may large males dotted across the lava, each of these lizards maintains a territory and keeps other males from entering it, so despite their frequently relaxed appearance these lizards were always vigilant and watchful over their neighbors. As you can see there is not much growing on the lava rocks that the iguanas are basking on, instead they head to the water when they're hungry and graze on algae that grows at the waters edge and as well as underwater.
Fortunate to hear and see this shy mallee resident.

Human activity is the main reason for the decline in the Three-wattled Bellbird population; the declines in the population can be contributed to the immense amount of deforestation in it’s non-breeding range (BirdLife International, 2000). These areas have been deforested due to the logging industry and “the conversion of natural forests to banana plantations and cattle-ranches” (BirdLife International 2018). The conservation of the bellbird is centered around two of its key food resources and without those, the species is in jeopardy of extinction (Hamilton, 2017)
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.”
(Neil Gaiman, "The Sandman")
Rusty edges to feathers and pale eyebrow in winter contrast with blackish feather bases. Breeding males are glossy black. Shorter tail than Common Grackle. Thinner bill than Red-winged Blackbird. Found in wooded swamps. Often in flocks; frequently mixes with Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackle in winter. Look for flocks perched at tops of trees bordering marshes and listen for their calls to help pick them out from large flocks of blackbirds.

Hundreds of trans people, their friends, family and allies gathered to peacefully protest a recent supreme court ruling.
Thousands gathered in London to protest with other cities across the UK pulling in hundreds and hundreds more.
Tens of Evangelical Christians held a counter-protest nearby.
I am not impartial. I have had trans friends at points in my life. I have heard the, often painful, stories of their lives from their earliest memories. They don't choose this. Who would deliberately put themselves through such an experience in a world that shows them so much hate and abuse?
The issue surrounding trans people today is a far right and religious fundamentalist attack on one of the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in society.
We are one species, with a vast array of naturally occurring difference, on one tiny oasis in the vacuum of space. Share love. Share compassion. Share empathy. It makes the world a better place for us all.

The Sarus crane is the tallest flying bird in the world standing 152-156 cm tall with a wingspan of 240cm. It has a predominantly grey plumage with a naked red head and upper neck and pale red legs. It weighs 6.8-7.8 Kgs. It is a social creature, found mostly in pairs or small groups of three or four. Known to mate for life with a single partner, its breeding season coincides with heavy rainfall in monsoon. Nests are constructed on water in natural wetlands or in flooded paddy fields. Usually a clutch has only one or two eggs, which are incubated by both parents for a period of 26 to 35 days. The juveniles follow their parents from the day of birth.

I was fortunate enough to bring the husband last night to witness Jason Isbell perform an acoustic masterclass at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. This is my third time seeing Isbell, but this time was perhaps the most magical as he played new unreleased songs from his upcoming album, Foxes in the Snow, along with some favorites from albums past. The rawness and vulnerability of the music was apparent given the tumultuous past year of his life.
I don't take for granted special moments like these, witnessing an all-time great rooted squarely in their prime.
