Sorry guys for being busy and far away from Flickr.
That's what modern life do to us :-((
She/He was looking to my camera with certain curiosity, ready to do that thing she/he does! Pretty scary.

Sauropus macranthus . Common Name - Pumpkin Bush. Phyllanthaceae
It is a small understory shrub . It is listed as vulnerable to extinction.
This plant was in the Wongabel State Forest near Atherton in a forest type known as Mabi Forest or complex notophyll vine forest. It occurs on red basalt soils with fairly low annual rainfall (1300 - 1600mm). It once covered a large part of the Atherton Tablelands. Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo lives in this area. It has been extensively cleared and only small pockets remain.
The shrub has simple alternate leaves but the leaves on the twig occur all in one plane so at first glance, the leaf bearing twig resembles a compound leaf. This arrangement is termed distichous. It occurs in many of the rainforest Euphorbiaceae such as the Glochidions so put a mental tick next to that family ( it has been moved to the Phyllanthaceae but the CSIRO key still has it as Euphorbiaceae)
CSIRO key features) shrub
Leaf features : L3 - simple leaves ; L5 alternate leaves
Fruit features: FR7 - fruit a capsule; FR19 - fruit pink ; FR 27 testa (seed coat) white.
9 remaining. The leaf image is a bit ambiguous. Confirm with fruit illustration and it usually flowers and fruits as a shrub 1-3m tall
Continued reliance on imported oil in North America and Europe makes these regions vulnerable to volatile global prices, risky supply lines, and unpredictable foreign governments. At the same time, consumption of oil and other fossil fuels contributes to climate change, which poses growing, serious risks to infrastructure, livelihoods, and national security on both sides of the Atlantic. CNA and the Royal United Services Institute launched a new policy report on this “nexus” at the Wilson Center on June 6, 2013: ‘The Energy and Climate Nexus: Challenges and Opportunities for Transatlantic Security.’ Joining the author, Ralph Espach, for discussion were Sherri Goodman (CNA), Rear Admiral Neil Morisetti (UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office), Daniel Chiu (Office of the Secretary of Defense), and Christian Burgsmüller (European Union).

Thanks to European Union support - FAO is regenerating livestock production to strengthen resilience of vulnerable populations in Borno State
The current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a crisis within a crisis in Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria. The state was already undergoing a staggered recovery on account of to a decade-long insurgency that has resulted in food shortages, imperilled livelihoods and exacerbated poverty. Now faced with the pandemic, conflict-affected persons in the state will be at greater risk if recovery efforts are not sustained and increased.
As part of its emergency response, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched its 2020 livestock restocking campaign. This campaign is part of a comprehensive initiative funded by the European Union Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) jointly implemented by FAO, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the World Food Programme (WFP). It is envisaged that the intervention will empower beneficiaries by enabling them to reestablish their productive asset base through the replenishment of lost livestock.

The wide area across which the British had to stretch themselves made the supply points and lines of communication very vulnerable. The solution that was derived to protect them was the system of blockhouses.
blockhouse locations
Initially the blockhouses were to be erected at strategic points such as bridges. However, the idea was expanded to both guard the railway line and the present barriers designed to limit the free movement of the Boers across the countryside. To achieve this, blockhouses were constructed at regular intervals along the railway lines. Troops were stationed in and around each blockhouse and the number of men garrisoned varied. The desire to limit the area used by the Boers led to another expansion of the use of blockhouses. Now they were to be used to protect main roads and ultimately to partition the country into areas that could control the Boer movements.
For the most part, the design of a blockhouse was standard although blockhouses where build using existing structures on some occasions. The designer of the blockhouse, Major Rice RE and the men of the Royal Engineers set up manufacturing units to make the component parts. These were then shipped to wherever they were needed. The standardisation of design meant the blockhouses could be constructed quickly and with parts from different manufacturing units if necessary.
Construction of the blockhouses was the responsibility of the army with guidance and support provided by the Royal Engineers.
The distance between blockhouses was calculated to be able to extent the reach as far as possibly but at the same time to prevent the Boers from passing unnoticed between them. The average distance apart was about 1,000 yards (910 m). Line of sight was vital and this required a greater density of blockhouses in some areas. The gap between blockhouses was filled by wire fences. These fences did not run along the shortest distance between the blockhouses but zig-zagged so that the troops from both blockhouses could fire at the enemy between themselves but without the chance of hitting the other blockhouse.
The first fences were made from barbed wire but experience showed that this could be cut easily. Steel wire ¼ in (6mm) thick was imported to provide a more long-lasting deterrent.
The fences were often connected to cans containing stones or other devices that could alert the troops to movement or activity somewhere along the length of the fence.
The blockhouses impeded the movement of the Boers and contributed to bringing the war to an earlier close than would have been the case if they has not been used.

Sambar (Rusa unicolor) - Danum Valley, Malaysia
You would never guess it from these photos and the behavior of this individual deer but Sambar are usually quite skittish and most individuals I saw out away from human habitation were very wary of me and I just saw them making a quick getaway. These deer are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN redlist, here is a quote about the current state of the Sambar from the IUCN's assessment:
"Almost everywhere outside Taiwan, the Sambar is in rapid decline leading to a widespread distribution of very low numbers and many local-level extinctions, with occasional healthy populations reflecting special circumstances." - IUCN
Danum Valley is one of those special circumstances, it is protected from poaching and logging and thus it has remained an wildlife rich area, many species including the Sambar have healthy populations there. Healthy Sambar populations are necessary to support various predators throughout their range, for example tigers, in Borneo there are no tigers but clouded leopards can and do prey on Sambar.
There are 4 species in the genus Rusa and all are found in Southeast Asia and all are threatened, with 3 species being listed as vulnerable and 1 as endangered.

Not my best shot, but the only one I got his feet in full view. They have a very interesting foot shape that leads to a "pineapple" shaped track.
The elderly, women and children, and minority ethnic groups or castes can be particularly vulnerable following crises such the Nepal earthquakes. Growing food insecurity can impact heavily on these groups.

Understanding population dynamics is critical to avoiding static perceptions of human and environmental vulnerability. Changes that affect the size, distribution, and composition of human populations also affect both the nature of vulnerability and adjustments in natural or human systems in response to environmental change.
‘The Demography of Adaptation to Climate Change,’ a new edited volume from the United Nations Population Fund, International Institute for Environment and Development, and El Colegio de Mexico explores these themes. Three of the book’s contributors share perspectives on the importance of population dynamics for adaptation, ways to use available population and census data in assessing vulnerability and resilience, and the application of these approaches for urban vulnerability and adaptation in Malawi and Indonesia.
