Due to the loss of lives of several vulnerable youth in the Cowichan Valley area, community partners who care and support the youth have been advocating for this program. Every effort has been taken to support these young people while out on the streets and now there will be a physical space open 24/7 for them to land when needed. Cowichan Tribes leadership has been instrumental in this project as the Indigenous youth are overrepresented in both vulnerability and number of lives lost. Learn more: news.gov.bc.ca/31055

Drawn in response to a convoluted, intricate and imposing structure that the foundation group was posed with early in the course. The group was asked to do many 20 minute renderings of this impossibly complicated form. It was meant to make us assess our drawing, which it did. I began to see it as a giant bird skulking around and preying on the weak, as various members of the collective had little "moments', myself included.
To strip it of the power it held over many of us, I gave it the form I was projecting onto it. Deliberately making it taller than anyone in the class to keep the overbearing atmosphere of the tower structure it derived from.

-The Community Hall building rents space to a branch of the Tonga Development Bank, a privately-owned convenience store, and two money transfer centers at which villagers collect remittances. It is the center for regularly held village meetings, development program meetings and all discussion of village policy. It is also used for community events and informal social gatherings.
