Hyacinth Macaw- Vulnerable - The Hyacinth Macaw is the largest parrot in the world and easily one of the most spectacular. It is an enormous bird weighing on average 1.5 kilograms (3.5 pounds) and is completely blue save its dark bill and bare yellow orbital ring and stripe at base of its lower mandible. It is completely dependent on the fruits of a number of palm species and has a necessarily massive bill to aid in the cracking of the tough exterior. Due to its dependence on palm fruit its range is regulated by the presence and abundance of its preferred species and is distributed in north central and south central Brazil into extreme north west Paraguay where it can be found in palm savannas, Mauritia palm stands, open dry woodland, gallery forest and the edge of humid lowland forest. doi.org/10.2173/bow.hyamac1.01

Snowy Owl has a Conservation Status under the IUCN of Vulnerable www.iucnredlist.org/species/22689055/205475036

Despite not being overly concerned about harassment (as mentioned in connection with another image www.flickr.com/photos/luminouscompositions/51958273022/in... ), this first year female Snowy Owl certainly kept an eye on its surroundings. This of course was for potential prey, but also — as in this instance — for other birds that might harass it. I was watching from inside my vehicle and could not tell what it was looking at initially, but it was very intent on the object in question from some distance away and tracked what turned out to be a Black-billed Magpie as it passed by. Snowy Owls, like most members of the family, are subject to swooping fly-by’s by other species, even more so in the case of these owls since they are active in daylight hours unlike most of their relatives which are more strictly nocturnal and roost in a sheltered spot while the sun shines. The visual acuity that this bird displayed emphasizes their hunting abilities.

The knobbed hornbill (Rhyticeros cassidix), also known as Sulawesi wrinkled hornbill, is native to the primary forests of Indonesia. The male has the red casque while the female's is yellow. Seen at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Conservation status: Vulnerable. They are threatened by habitat destruction from logging and to some extent hunting

Conservation status: Vulnerable

Also known as Rüppell's Griffon Vulture, this species was given an IUCN status of critically endangered in 2015. Only eight years prior, in 2007, its IUCN status was "near threatened", and it was subsequently degraded down through "vulnerable" and "endangered" to its current status. The BirdLife International Fact Sheet for this species estimates that there are only 22,000 individuals left in the world. The biggests threats are poisoning (a technique used to kill predators of livestock, this species and other carrion feeders are also impacted), medicinal purposes, and habitat loss. This species is also considered the highest flying bird in the world. There is documented collision with a commercial airliner at 37,000 feet (the bird was sucked into the engine, killing the bird; the engine was shut down and the plane landed safely).

The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the cat family (Felidae);

A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The species is an apex and keystone predator, although they scavenge when opportunities occur.

Typically, the lion inhabits grasslands and savannas but is absent in dense forests. It is usually more diurnal than other big cats, but when persecuted it adapts to being active at night and at twilight.

It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern. – Wikipedia

Blue-throated Conures are surviving in the scattered Atlantic forest fragments of eastern Brazil. The populations are small in isolated reserves, where the forests are being destroyed despite protection. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.

This rare bird is known by several names: Ochre-marked Parakeet, Blue-throated Parakeet, and Red-eared Conure in English and Cotorra Tiiriba and Perico Grande in Spanish.

These conures are part of a captive breeding programme at Exmoor Zoo.

The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the cat family (Felidae). The lion is sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females with a typical weight range of 150 to 250 kg (331 to 551 lb) for the former and 120 to 182 kg (265 to 401 lb) for the latter. Male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species.

Whenever I get too vulnerable

That's not your fault (Yeah)

I wanna lay with you 'til the sun's up

I wanna let you inside

Oh, heaven knows I've tried

Wish that I could let you love me

The Nubian ibex is a desert-dwelling goat species found in mountainous areas of northern and northeast Africa, and the Middle East. It was historically considered to be a subspecies of the Alpine ibex (C. ibex), but is now considered a distinct species. The wild population is estimated at 4,500 mature individuals, and it is classified as vulnerable. Males begin growing a beard at age 2 or 3, which continues to grow longer and darker as they age. During the autumn breeding season, mature males grow a "rutting fur" on their breast and sides which is very dark brown. Nubian ibex live in rough, dry, mountainous terrain, where they eat mainly grasses and leaves, especially from Acacia trees. (Wikipedia)

We were driving into the park when we saw something mysterious on the ridge. It turned out to be the horns of this magnificent animal. Slowly, the horns grew larger as he made his way up the back side of the ridge. At the top, he surveyed his kingdom and his family. Based on descriptions, he is likely a full adult male. Further down was a younger male and several females. What a treat :-)

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat of the subfamily Felinae that occurs in North, Southern and East Africa, and a few localities in Iran. It inhabits a variety of mostly arid habitats like dry forests, scrub forests, and savannahs.

The species is IUCN Red Listed as Vulnerable, as it suffered a substantial decline in its historic range in the 20th century due to habitat loss, poaching for the illegal pet trade, and conflict with humans. By 2016, the global cheetah population has been estimated at approximately 7,100 individuals in the wild. Several African countries have taken steps to improve cheetah conservation measures.

African cheetahs may achieve successful hunts only running up to a speed of 64 km/h (40 mph) while hunting due to their exceptional ability to accelerate; but are capable of accelerating up to 112 km/h (70 mph) on short distances of 100 m (330 ft). It is therefore the fastest land animal. - Wikipedia

The African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), also known as the African savanna elephant, is the largest living terrestrial animal with bulls reaching a shoulder height of up to 4 m (13 ft). Both sexes have tusks, which erupt when they are 1–3 years old and grow throughout life.

It is distributed across 37 African countries and inhabits forests, grasslands and woodlands, wetlands and agricultural land. It is a social mammal, traveling in herds composed of cows and their offspring. Adult bulls usually live alone or in small bachelor groups. It is a herbivore, feeding on grasses, creepers, herbs, leaves and bark.

Since 2004, it has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. It is threatened foremost by habitat destruction, and in parts of its range also by poaching for meat and ivory.

They can weigh 7 t (7.7 short tons). The heaviest male on record weighed 10.4 t (11.5 short tons) and was shot in 1974 in Angola. Females are much smaller at about 2.2–2.6 m (7.2–8.5 ft) tall at the shoulder and up to 4 t (4.4 short tons) in weight. Elephants attain their maximum stature when they complete the fusion of long-bone epiphyses, occurring in males around the age of 40 and females around the age of 25. – Wikipedia
