Aerial view of Old John Tower in Bradgate Park just north of Leicester. Built in 1784 by George Grey, 5th Earl of Stamford as part of a deliberately 'ruined' folly.
Designed by Thomas Sketchley.
Sometime called the 'beer tankard tower' due to its shape.
The plaque affixed to the tower says:
In grateful remembrance of Charles Bennion of Thurnby in this county, who in the year 1928, with the helpful concurrence of the heirs of the Greys of Groby, purchased from them this Park of Bradgate and presented it in trust for the City and County of Leicester that for all time it might be preserved in its natural state for the quiet enjoyment of the people of Leicestershire. His true memorial lies around.

A new book has just opened for 2017, all the pages are still blank and it only remains for us to fill them with our most beautiful hopes, dreams, passions, and joys.
Let's take our most beautiful pen or keyboard and start writing the first chapter. Antoine de Saint Exupéry wrote "Regarding the future, it is not a question of foreseeing it but of making it possible"
On the first page of my book for this new year I am writing that I will no longer respond to anyone on Flickr who simply makes any photo a favourite and who does not also leave a comment. In order not to go against what I have written on this first page of my book, I ask you to not just add my photo as a favourite without a comment, thus avoiding any notion of reciprocal obligation.
