Hull Art is made by marine artist Robert Wyland, who has an art gallery in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Wyland's signature hull design, dubbed "Cruising with the Whales," is showcasing humpback whales, giant manta rays, dolphins, sea lions and sea turtles. The centerpiece is a mother humpback whale gently guiding her calf through the water as the other sea creatures swim by.
The Norwegian Bliss will initially sail from Alaska, but will also cruise in the Caribbean. Here the ship was photographed in icy conditions. It was freezing, so conditions the ship will not encounter too much in its life.

Deze beschildering heet ‘Cruisen met de walvissen’. Het ontwerp bevat als middelpunt het beeld van een moeder bultrug en haar kalfje om de schoonheid van Alaska en het belang van het behoud van de oceanen en de wilde dieren die er in verblijven te laten zien.
Het schip zal in de zomer cruisen in Alaska en in de wintermaanden in de Caribbean. Hier werd het ship gefotografeerd onder ijzige omstandigheden : een harde oostenwind en in de vrieskou.

In de snijdende vrieskou passeerde de kleurrijke HTRS 189 096 met de circa 12 uur vertraagde vertraagde fraai beladen GTS/Bologna-shuttle 40274 het nog heel licht besneeuwde veld bij Heukelom. Deze trein rijdt normaal gesproken 's nachts.
Midden in het centrum maar toch wat achteraf, een zijstraatje van de Passage.....vaak schilderachtig om te zien met een kleine geschiedenis.....een van de oudste straatjes van Den Haag.

De blauwe passiebloem (Passiflora caerulea) is de passiebloem die het meest wordt aangeboden door plantenwinkels. Hij wordt aangeboden als kamerplant in een pot met een hoepeltje en als tuinplant. De plant is redelijk winterhard, maar zal een winter waarin de Elfstedentocht wordt gehouden niet overleven. De plant kan in de winter met bladeren worden afgedekt om hem tegen de vrieskou te beschermen. De grond moet goed waterdoorlatend zijn en de plant gedijt het beste op een plek op het zuiden, waar hij overvloedig zal bloeien. Het natuurlijke verspreidingsgebied ligt in Argentinië, Brazilië en Paraguay.
De stengels zijn onbehaard, kantig en kunnen tot 10 meter lang worden. Het blad is vijf- tot zevenlobbig en tot 13 x 15 cm groot. De bloemen hebben een diameter van 7-9 cm. De kelkbladeren zijn wit, langwerpig, 2-3,5 x 1-1,5 cm groot en hebben 0,4 cm lange kafnaalden. De kroonbladeren zijn wit, langwerpig en 2-4 x 1-1,5 cm groot. De corona bestaat uit vier rijen. De buitenste twee rijen zijn 1,5-2,5 cm lang, aan de basis paarszwart, daarna wit en aan het uiteinde blauw. De binnenste twee rijen zijn 0,1-0,2 cm lang. De plant heeft kruisbestuiving met een andere genetische kloon nodig om zaadbevattende vruchten te geven, bijvoorbeeld Passiflora caerulea 'Constance Elliot'. De vruchten zijn 6 cm lang en eivormig en worden rijp oranje. De vruchten zijn eetbaar, maar hebben weinig smaak. De plant kan het beste vermeerderd worden door stekken, omdat zaad genetisch onzuivere planten oplevert.
Passiflora caerulea 'Constance Elliott' is een mutant van de blauwe passiebloem met bloemen met een diameter van 10 cm en een volledig witte corona. Deze plant is alleen te vermeerderen door middel van stekken. De blauwe passiebloem is ook de ouder van vele kruisingen, waaronder Passiflora ×violacea 'Victoria' (Passiflora caerulea × Passiflora racemosa) en Passiflora ×kewensis 'Amethyst' (Passiflora caerulea × Passiflora kermesina, vroeger ook bekend als Passiflora 'Amethyst', Passiflora 'Lavender Lady' en Passiflora 'Star of Mikan' ).

De afbouw is nog in volle gang ook na zonsondergang als de wind gaat liggen en de nacht valt over Papenburg. De sterren van het sterrenbeeld Orion zijn te zien boven dit prachtige schip.

On Wednesday, December 23th, was the third edition of the Q-santa-run. A 5 km long run organized by a Dutch radio station called Q-music. This year 2500 Santa Clauses participated, on a route through the center of Rotterdam and a warming up by none other than number one DJ in the world Armin van Buuren!
These photo’s are part of my commission for this run, with ten other photographers. Very shortly two or three other photos will follow.

Hier kregen we een mooie demo van de mariniers in hun BV S10. Een hele dag in de vrieskou staan te wachten op activiteit werd beloond door deze mannen.

In Delfzijl genoot men vanmiddag van een alternatieve Nieuwjaarsduik in de vorm van een Kerstduik vanwege ongunstige getijdevoorspellingen op Nieuwjaarsdag. Zo'n 40 deelnemers verschenen op het strand om klokslag 15:00 uur een duik te nemen in het ijskoude water en er daarna direct weer uit te komen. De temperatuur lag rond het vriespunt.
Vorig jaar trok de Nieuwjaarsduik nog zo'n 500 deelnemers.

In Delfzijl people could participate today in an alternative New Year’s Dive called the Christmas Dive. This Christmas Dive was organised due to negative tide predictions on New Year’s day. Around 40 participants showed up on the beach to dive into the cold water at exactly 15:00 hours. After diving into the water everyone almost immediately returned to seek a warm place because of outside temperatures around 0.0 degrees Celsius.
Last year around 500 people participated in the New Year’s Dive

In de vroege ochtend van 4 februari 2012 gaf de thermometer -17º Celcius aan, toen een sprinter de stad Culemborg naderde. De zeer koude lucht zorgt ervoor dat er boven de rivier de Lek mist ontstaat. Op het moment dat de foto werd gemaakt reed NS nog volgens dienstregeling; later op de dag werd dat wel anders.

I'm always fighting 'the glow' when doing HDR, on the thumbnail it always looks worse than full size though. Hope you like my shot at the edge of the Kralinger plas - it was *very* cold, but I loved the atmosphere around there. I wondered why I didn't visit this location more often... who knows.
All this to counterbalance the Erasmus bridge overkill lately, hehe. Ta! :)

The popular historical town center has many preserved half-timbered houses and narrow streets have remained nearly unchanged since the 18th century. Very touristy in the high season but outside of this busy period you can still explore the beauty of this beautiful town.
