"Believe me, you evil doing people, if you accept Great Cthulhu as your new master of Evil, you will be transformed like I have been!"
Few people know that the Death Star is really a very democratic place.
Here's the final version of my "Vote" poster for my Graphic Design 1 class. The objective was to create a poster that would inspire people to vote. I wanted to avoid traditional patriotic or partisan imagery, so my concept was simple, fusing the word "vote" with a straightforward image of a key.
I'll be posting some of the preliminary versions in the next couple of days, so you can see the evolution, but this version was completed as follows:
First, I drew a key in Adobe Illustrator, fused it with the word "Vote" and used it as a laser template. I then laser-cut two copies out of 1/4 inch thick MDF. These two pieces were then epoxied together, filed, sanded, and rounded. Once the piece looked sufficiently key-like, it was painted in aluminum spray paint. This key was then photographed in my apartment, the photo imported into Photoshop, isolated from the background, dropped onto a black field, and touched up a bit. The type at the bottom was the finishing touch.
The finished piece measures 24"x36"
Actually, I voted by drop box a few weeks ago. Since I almost never leave the house except by computer, I thought this was the best place for my sticker.
Illinois is one of the large set of states that has made voting easier during the pandemic.
My fiancé David and I have made a one-minute video highlighting our beautiful state, Colorado. Please take a minute to head over to the site to watch and vote for our film!

Our cities sit in the shadows and crevices of our greatest treasure, The Rocky Mountains. From sunrise to sunset, Colorado cannot help but show this natural beauty. The transitions throughout this film are set up to show a full day, and a full year. The beginning connects with the rising of the sun, the natural entrance and illuminating aspect to our every day. The closer you get to the middle and the meat of the film, the more colorful and vibrant it becomes. Only to be met, once again, by the inevitable and beautiful sunset. We purposely did not include any dialog because we want you, the viewer, to make your own observations and let Colorado reveal itself to you. This was filmed in Great Sand Dunes National Park, Lake Dillon, Silverthorne, Winter Park, Evergreen, and Colorado Springs.

I liked this campaign poster the best....
It is said that the thistle became the savior of the Scottish in a time when Vikings where invading land and plundering villages. During one dark and silent night, the Vikings were preparing for battle while the Scottish lay resting under a starlit sky. To approach the Scots, without raising alarm and forewarning of their arrival, they chose to take off their shoes so that they could quietly move across the land.
Unfortunately, they did not know that the fields were home to thistles and when the Vikings stepped on the thistles the tough spikes of the thistles bore deep into their feet, causing the men to cry out in pain and agony. Of course these cries awoke the sleeping Scottish, who were able to fight off the advancing Vikings without much of a battle. Being saved from the Vikings by the thistles is definitely a good enough reason to make it a national emblem. In addition, it also bares characteristics to the Scottish such as their toughness and not being able to uproot them from their land without a fight.
Not quite what is happening to them in the UK, but they hold the story dear...
Again, we must give thanks to our very good friends Bill Posters and Bill Stickers! There's a great array of posters for dating this one - but still plenty of fun to be had with the shops and businesses, etc.
Plus, was a vote for Kennedy a vote against Unions? (See graffiti on wall at extreme right)

Pride.be - Pride 2018 - Your Local Power
Feeling free and at home in your neighborhood, town or city. Be and show yourself in the streets. Holding hands with the person you love and smiling at each other in public. Our personal lives occur in the public space. Considering the approaching communal elections, everyone (youngsters, seniors, families, couples and all people - no matter what gender or orientation) asks the local politicians: How do you make a difference? What do you do to improve diversity in our everyday life? Where the rain makes way for the sun, we will walk proudly under the rainbow!
We will all be heading to the voting booths for the local elections on 14th of October. Deciding which circle to colour in is an important decision. A conscious decision can lead to a better living environment in your city or municipality.
And we're not just talking about the redesign of the local park, the policies in the municipal school, or the proper functioning of the local Public Centre for Social Welfare. Your local municipal or city administration can also make a real difference and turn the place where you live into a true rainbow bubble, if that's what you'd like, of course.
So it's no wonder that this year's Pride is focusing on the local elections. Belgian Pride is putting the municipalities and cities in the limelight in 2018, or better yet, at the end of the rainbow! We want the slogan 'Your Local Power!' to encourage municipal and city administrations to enact explicit, integrated local LGBTI+ policies.
Municipalities and cities can and must make the difference. They must accept responsibility for the well-being of all their residents. Flying the rainbow flag at the local government offices during the Pride period is a symbol of this. This is also a way that the municipality or city can show their solidarity with the LGBTI+ community. This symbolic gesture is not an infringement on neutrality. On the contrary, we can only actively work on ending all forms of discrimination once there is recognition for diversity and inclusion.
Policy-makers can make the lives of many citizens that much rosier by taking both small and large actions: by introducing a diversity charter in sports clubs, by making information on gender and sexuality available at the local libraries, by providing logistical and financial support to local associations, testimonials, and courses in the municipal education system, by holding a queer film festival in the local movie theatre or cultural centre, by holding LGBTI+ actions in community centres and youth centres, by providing information on what to do if you are the victim or witness of discrimination, by offering space for intimacy and (LGBTI+) sexuality in assisted-living centres, by training local police precincts and municipal officials, by including Equal Opportunity as an explicit competence within the city administration, etc.
The list of things that cities and municipalities can do is endless. Plus, many of these actions are very easy to implement. Sometimes, your local administration only needs a little boost, and you can give them that boost in the voting booth on 14th of October. A good local administration meets the needs and requirements of all residents. What does the LGBTI+ community in your city or municipality need?
You can already send the politicians a signal that is loud and clear on Saturday, the 19th of May. Make your wishes heard during the Belgian Pride.
We hope to see you there! Everyone is welcome!

This election will define our country to the world and for us, here at home. I for one, do not like where the government has taken us. My worst fear would be, that the same party will stay in place. This election is less about the party and clearly more about saving Americia as a strong and vital nation. The last 8 years have systematically given more rewards to the wealthy while taking more from the middle class. The only valid claim to voting McCain is that you have wealth beyond all imagination and don't like paying your fair share. If Palin should ever become president, God help this planet!
