This photo was taken during the March Against Racism in central London on Saturday on 18 March. Many activists were furious at the new anti-immigration legislation which is clearly in breach of international law.

Although there are no legal routes available to refugees from many Asian and African countries suffering from conflict and murderous repressive regimes, the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, is overseeing legislation which will criminalize refugees risking their lives at sea to reach relative safety. They will now have their asylum claims denied as inadmissible.

As marchers reached Downing Street, Braverman was thousands of miles away in Rwanda, reaffirming the UK's commitment to illegally expelling refugees to the impoverished country, which itself has a poor human rights record.

Apologies if some of the photographs in this series are clearly overexposed, which is due to my own stupidity and negligence as I forgot to reset the white balance after some indoor photography.

Walking downtown, I saw a podium and a flag. Had camera, had a tripod, and no one to tell me I couldn't do this.

Maybe someone will lift this image, write text over it, and it will be an internet meme. Heck, a [de]motivational will work too.

But yeah, this is me.

happy gorgeous green General Election Thursday :)

Parliament has been promised a meaningful vote on the Brexit deal. But what, exactly, is Parliament being asked to decide? And what happens if Parliament votes the deal down?

At our panel discussion Raphael Hogarth, Research Associate at the Institute for Government, presented key findings from Voting on Brexit, the Institute for Government’s new paper on Parliament and the Brexit deal.

The paper sets out what the Government has to do in Parliament to get its deal though, and give effect to the withdrawal agreement in domestic law. It also identifies a number of risks to the timetable.

The vote, the politics and the constitutional implications was discussed by our panel:

The Rt Hon. Dominic Grieve QC MP, Conservative MP for Beaconsfield and former Attorney General

The Rt Hon. the Baroness Smith of Basildon, Shadow Leader of the House of Lords and Shadow Spokesperson (Northern Ireland)

George Parker, Political Editor, Financial Times

This event was chaired by Dr Hannah White, Director of Research at the Institute for Government.

Remember to Vote! ;)

The glimpse of the major media groups on the result of the vote on the package of measures in their favour. A lot of money for nothing is at stake for TX Group AG, Ringier AG, CH Media and Somedia. The coverage over the past two years has been disappointing but the owners have earned well. Fear was fueled and panic spread by editors who suddenly mutated into virologists and epidemiologists. This is dangerous in a direct democracy. How dangerous will be seen today. Switzerland February 9, 2022.

The new "voting booths" where you fill out your scantron sheet. Not very private, and not nearly as cool as the old lever machines.

I just came back from voting, and had an interesting experience.

My polling place is in the community room of a nearby church. As I was waiting to sign in, I scanned the long bulletin board that was directly behind the check-in tables. I was shocked -- outraged really -- to see a large sign that said "VOTE YES ON 73 - PROTECT OUR DAUGHTERS." (Prop. 73 would change the state constitution to require health care providers to notify the parents of young women under the age of 18 before providing abortion services.)

When I got to the tables, I pointed to the signed I asked the poll workers if that was really legal to have a sign like that in a polling place. The three workers turned around and when they saw the sign they freaked. "Oh my God! That's electioneering!" yelled one of the women. Uh, yeah it is. They took the sign down immediately and apologized.

Now, it doesn't matter if I agree with the sign or not. It's just so fundamentally wrong, and while the church has every right to it's opinions, if they are going to tamper with the election process in any way they can take their tax-exempt status and...well, anyway, I was just glad I went in first thing in the morning so the sign wasn't up all day long.

I urge everyone to go vote today. It's all we've got.

I did ! Yay !

What a big day today !

I was so emotional, I was fighting tears, standing in line in front of the voting booth ......

Lines outside the polling station for voting in the 2008 USA election in Jersey City, NJ. The lines went around the block for another block, apparently the number of voting machines was inadequate for the demand. Lots of first time voters at this polling station which was great to see.

I marched today for a People's Vote on Brexit. I voted to join the EU in 1975 and I voted to remain in 2016 and I am marching for a final say now. I feel strongly that the EU and our membership of it is a significant factor in European peace and an important part of European Human Rights and improving working conditions. Yes, there are problems within the EU, but anyone watching Brexit will have no doubt that there are also problems going it alone.
