Snow Voronoi II

An installation on invitation by

Josina Burgess & Velasques Bonetto

for CARP at Diabolous

opening on 07 04 2010.

Altitude 3700m.

Steiner minimal tree's are randomly formed and fall by SL physics gravity randomly onto eachother into a giant 2000 prim structure. Thus making a self organizing structure wich is constantly different by coincidence but keeps it's Voronoi properties.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Plotted on heavy sketching paper, 0.7 mm black pen using a Roland DXY-1300 plotter.

Display the node solution for used paint on object, with paint voronoi displacement smoothed on used parts. No compositing.

This is the node material of the center object next picture.

Enjoy :-)

These photos were part of an activity at the 16 UMass Amherst Summer School on Soft Solids and Complex Fluids. Each participant was given a colored circle with a unique ID number. The goal was to write down the IDs of neighbors, which involves deciding what a neighbor is.

One of the topics covered in my lectures was the Voronoi tessellation, which provides a way define neighbors unambiguously.

To test the Voronoi tessellation in this case, I needed to locate the IDs. I took photos of the audience from the left and right side of the room. This is sufficient to reconstruct the position of each circle using triangulation.

More detail and results can be found in lectures 1 and 4 from the summer school, and the analysis codes are provided in the associated GitHub repository.

i don't know who made this vase, but carving the round sides created a voronoi pattern. i really like it.
