This piece was inspired by the book Bonjour Tristesse by Francoise Sagan and the associated movie starring Jean Seberg. The portrait is of Jean Seberg playing the main character of Bonjour Tristesse, Cecile. I sought to capture the tumultuous character of Cecile through the organic and swooping lines. I also wanted to play around with the idea of the figure and how it can interact with the absence and presence of color and space, but also with other figures such as sailboats and flags. I also gave my piece simplistic colors to reflect the art of the early 1960s (when Bonjour Tristesse was set).
