This weapon was recovered from a failed attempt at landing on earth. The Troop Transport was too heavy for the speed in which our gravity acted, and smashed into the earth. this weapon was one of the few things we got from the crash.
Enfile/IMP/Encode"
What your about to read is not availible for mostly everyone. This weapon was recovered from a crash site. The actual Holographic sight projects at voice command or touch. You can also zoom in 60x, for long range attack. The Glowing that you see on the handguard is paired with another item we found in a "Combat Pack". The item resembles a Land Mine. You set it anywhere on the ground, turn it on, and turn the handguard on. The Handguard and the "Mine" react, acting as a Giant Mounted Bipod, which you can swivile on. The Recoil on this weapon is little to none, and we have not found a limit to the "Magazine" in this gun.

This Microsoft Voice Command thingy is cool! Dad just bought it and installed it on his phone, 'cause the superduper-high res screen makes the buttons so small that it's completely impossible to use while driving.
Next time dad's driving and falling asleep all he has to do is push a button (a real button, not a tiny bunch of pixels) and say out loud "Play Village People!" You'll laugh, but songs like YMCA, In the Navy, or Go West are a tried and tested way to stay awake and alert on the road!
He saw the video on You Tube and thought it would be cool to have this Voice Command thing, but lately it's almost impossible to buy anything from Microsoft. They just won't sell it to you! Windows XP? Nope, we don't sell that anymore! Visual Studio? Only if you're from US, Canada, or are willing to go through our sleazy resellers! How about Windows Embedded? Here's some nice red tape, see if you can cut through it...
Voice Command was just as hard to get. They only sell it in some select markets. That's probably because of the language recognition, but still... today dad finally found a place willing to sell the "International English" (i.e. UK) version without asking questions!
For English words it works really well, but for Spanish words (names in the contact list or song, album, or artist names) it's pretty hopeless, even if you try to pronounce them as if you were reading English. Dad had to add English-like phonetic spellings as "nicknames" to the most often used phone numbers, so he says "call Oleeveeah" to call mom. :oP
That said, dad's old Nokia N91 (Symbian) already had speech synthesis and recognition, and it even worked in Spanish... but the N91 just doesn't impress anyone... *sigh*

This model, a Garmin Nuvi 760, is presently $200 on Amazon. At that price, you shouldn't even THINK about driving away from home without one of these.
Seriously. When you use a GPS, your life changes. We have three of them.
It isn't just about not getting lost, or knowing how fast you're really driving... it's things like being able to instantly get to the nearest gas station; to list restaurants by distance from where you are; to get back to the highway after a scenic detour; knowing time to go; being able to tell emergency services exactly where you are; these things totally change how you view driving.
This one even connects to your phone via bluetooth and lets you use it and the phone's address book hands free, voice commands and all. Plus it's portable, has a LION battery, just unplug it and walk away. So you can take it rock collecting, hiking, etc.

Recently, Apple filed a patent for an enhanced voice control system which will probably be implemented in the future iOS 5. This system would work by reducing the quantity of information users have to listen to when using their iPhones. Additionally, the system can get familiarized with a user’s preferences over time and deliver only the “tailored” information that he needs. This system, named “Adaptive Audio Feedback System and Method” would apply to alerts, menu navigation and prompts.
Since the purchase of Siri, a “personal assistant” for iPhone, who understands and answers voice commands like “Call me a taxi.” or “Where is the nearest Starbucks?”, Apple has been working hard to improve the voice control in its mobile gadgets. Some rumors say that the voice control will be “deeply integrated” in the next OS.
We can’t wait to see the alpha version of the iOS 5, but most of all, we can’t wait for the new iPhone 5 to be launched.

Eyes Which Control Sheep Are Vital To Border Collie
By Max Knight - Circa 1959
Middleboro - The use of dogs by shepherds of the world extends back to Biblical times. Horace, Homer, Virgil and Varro talked of shepherds and their working dogs, even before the birth of Christ.
These dogs were the first generation of one of the most famous animals in the world, the border collie.
What has made the border collie so famous?
The question was answered by Denver Cofield, a farmer east of Middleboro who one of the best.
"It is the eye of the dog," he said. "That eye can control sheep, an impossible job for a dog that does not have the breed born into him."
Cofield has a border collie named Joe, and Joe most certainly has the eye. He works with precision while around the sheep, obeying his master's will to the ultimate degree.
Uses Five Commands
Denver uses five commands in working his dog. He voices commands: "come in," "get back," "gee" for left and "haw" for right. His stop command is a whistle.
And when that whistle is given, an onlooker might think the dog suddenly has been stopped in his tracks by a bullet. No matter what speed the dog is traveling, the whistle command serves as glue to his feet.
Cofield also uses a cane to point the direction he wishes Joe to go.
This is especially effective in an open field.
But the most striking thing about the dog is its eyes. When they bore into a flock of sheep, they seem to command all the respect in the world.
In fact, the dog is seemingly telling the sheep there is no use for them to break away, for he can run any of them into the ground and sooner or later will be in full command. The older sheep of the Cofield farm seldom try to take advantage of Joe. And the lambs soon learn it does little good.
Into A Pen
To demonstrate for the camera, Cofield had Joe put five sheep in a corner pen in the middle of a field. The pen was made by setting two gates at an angle.
The border collie eased the sheep toward the corral and backed them in on the first try.
But he was not satisfied with the way they were acting and, upon command from his master, took them in a circle around the pen four times, wearing them down. They then meekly returned to the pen and made his job of backing them in an easy task.
The Border Collie association has trial meets each year but essentially the dogs are for farm work. Joe is equally good with hogs and cattle as with sheep. But it is the fast-moving sheep that present the biggest challenge for herding.
Trials for the dogs date back to Oct. 9, 1873. The first one was held in Bala, Scotland, and needless to say, was won by a Scotchman with a Scotch-bred dog.
Joe is a forceful-type dog where others use a wait-and-see attitude. If a sheep breaks from the herd, Joe speedily rounds her up. But let her break the second time and Joe takes a good chuck of ear a he puts her back into her place.
Training Important
Training is all important with the dog. It must become a one-man dog and must obey all commands automatically.
This reporter tried calling Joe to his side while in an open field. But the dog did not move from its position in the shade of the Cofield truck.
Then Denver entered the picture. He turned to Joe and said, "Joe! Go see Max."
The dog immediately jumped to its feet and trotted to be petted as if meeting a long, lost friend.
Joe is not the only top-rated border collie in the area, according to Cofield. He says Dana Rowe at Winchester and Wayne Witter at College Corner each have one.
And of the 12 dogs Cofield has owned, only two have proved to have the eye necessary to make an excellent sheep dog.
Stole the Show
In his first trial at Buckleys near College Corner, Joe stole the show by performing like a professional. At these trials the dogs learn control, making it far more than a show.
"Joe and I understand each other," said Denver. "This is most important in training a border collie."
That is, understanding each other is the most important if the dog has "the eye." If he doesn't, all the understanding in the world will not make him a sheep dog.
With Joe, the understanding and "eye" are combined to give Cofield one of the finest dogs in this part of the country.
Photo 1: Joe's eyes seem to be saying, "I dare you to move," as he herds sheep on the Denver Cofield farm, near Middleboro, into a corner pen. The picture was taken in the middle of the sheep as Joe looked past the camera at his charges. Notice the ears of the dog pinned tight against his head.
Photo 2: Denver Cofield, stick in hand, stands with the sheep after Joe's job of putting them in an open-field pen is completed. Although resting, one move from the sheep would bring Joe alert again.
Photo 3: Joe moves in on the cornered sheep as he makes a final surveillance before quieting down. He froze to this position after his master whistled him to a stop.

I used my Boobshelf to hold my camera and I triggered it with the voice-command option. I'm sewing a ribbon cockade. The ones I've been making the last couple days are for The Tortuga Twins. They're awesome and funny. My son is friends with D'Angelo Tortuga and his family. I made three in blue and three in gold/yellow because while the Tortugas are "twins", there are six of them- the gold team and the blue team. Sometimes all six show up at the same place for six times the fun, but usually one team is at one event and the other team is at another. Sometimes, the blue and gold teams mix-and-match and refer to themselves as the "bronze team".
Anyway, I'm done! I've got about 20 days till Bristol opens, so I'll be making a few more till then.

A boatswain's call is a pipe used on naval ships by a boatswain. It is pronounced, and sometimes spelled, "bosun's call".
The pipe consists of a narrow tube (the gun) which directs air over a metal sphere (the buoy) with a hole in the top. The player opens and closes the hand over the hole to change the pitch. The rest of the pipe consists of a keel, a flat piece of metal beneath the gun that holds the call together, and the shackle, a keyring that connects a long silver or brass chain that sits around the collar, when in ceremonial uniform.
History and usage
Historically the boatswain's call was used to pass commands to the crew when the voice could not be heard over the sounds of the sea. Because of its high pitch, it could be heard over the activities of the crew and bad weather. It is now used in traditional bugle calls such as Evening Colors/Sunset, and in other ceremonies in most modern navies. It is sometimes accompanied by other auditive features such as ruffles and flourishes, voice commands and announcements, or even a gun salute.

For my description of Chance, I am including a few exerpts from an essay I wrote about him for an online essay contest explaining how you horse warms your heart in the winter. Chance's essay won first place, yielding a bunch of great horse treats for him!
Part of my essay:
Let me tell you a little story about an amazing horse named Chance. He is not amazing because of how many blue ribbons he's won, he hasn't won a single one in fact... he is not amazing because of his breeding either. In fact no one really nows for sure what he is. Our best guess is some sort of Fjord-draft cross. He is amazing for a totally different reason, and its all thanks to chance.
First I have something to admit to all of you reading my essay, I am a horse addict. I have been one since I really knew what one was... probably since age 2 or 3. Growing up in the suburbs did little to help the addiction. Sure there were the random pony rides at places we'd stop for a visit, but I always wanted my own! Unfortunately like my parents always said, "Money does not grow on trees, and horses sure do eat a lot of it!".
As a horse crazy 10 year old I was finally taking lessons at a farm about 40 minutes from my house. I took a lesson once a month for an hour (all I could afford with my paper-girl salary!). Long story short, apart from an occasional riding lesson here or there, and volunteering once a week at the local therapeutic riding center, horses remained just out of reach for me all through high school, and into the start of college. College unfortunately meant the end of my weekly volunteering, and an end to riding lessons... Sadly anything "horses" began to slip away from me.
At this point I begin working on a private farm part time as a stall mucker/trail guide, delighting in the fact I was surrounded by horses once again. Just the smell of the pine shavings, the brush of velvet noses, and the other wonderful sights and smells of the farm were a symphony of warm feelings, and pure joy to my senses. This was also a happy return of my peace of mind and well being, a feeling that had escaped me since the happy times of riding as a child. It was truly chance that I even found this job in the first place. An old connection from the therapeutic center I had volunteered with passed it along to me.
It was here at the tiny private farm that things started in motion for me to achieve my life-long goal of horse ownership, unbeknownst to me. In an online search for a nice sturdy looking trail horse for the barn owner' business, I happened upon a rescue in PA with a nice looking buckskin draft cross for sale. The price was right, the cost of him to a meat dealer. Yup, this poor guy was on his way to someone's plate. The pictures were terrible, and the poor guy looked so droopy and apathetic to the world around him while he was being ridden up and down a trash lined driveway. It was sad. I showed him to the barn owner, she was interested at first, but then forgot about him quickly.
I couldn't get him out of my mind, so I went home and showed him to my husband. We talked about it for a few hours, then I was given the green light to call the lady I worked for and see if we could work something out with his board. She agreed, and shortly after I was on my way to setting up a meeting with my horse friend and a trainer in tow 8 hours away to see the poor buckskin draft cross. Everything was good until the following morning. The rescue called me back. If I didn't purchase him that day, the meat dealer was taking him to his next auction - the following morning. If he didn't sell he'd come back to the dealer's lot one more time, but chances were this big boned boy would go. I was mortified and did something I always swore I'd never do. I bought that horse, sight unseen. I was taking a huge risk, all for the chance this would work out in the end.
After a few vet visits and a contract with a horse transporter, my new horse, my first horse, was finally on his way to me! I should have been out of this world excited, but I was more nervous than anything... I knew I should have looked at him first, but hey he looked calm and sleepy in all of his pictures right? In a constant battle of "yes" and "no" in my head I justified what I did as right. Besides, he looked like a lazy kind of guy in the 1 minute video posted of him online... right?
Fast forward to the arrival date - he's finally here, With child-like awe and delight I reach out to grab the end of the lead line from the transporter's hand, the symbolic culmination of all my wishing and dreaming as a child, I was finally looking upon my new horse for the first time as he turns to come off the trailer. Everything went quiet for about 10 seconds, it was like slow motion, I held my breath, the other horses were causing commotion behind us at the sight of the horse coming off the trailer in the driveway, but my attention did not waiver, time effectively stood still. He turned, I saw his face, and I gasped a little (he was even more beautiful than his pictures did him justice)... and then in a second's time, he flew off the trailer, spooked at a dog, spooked at a rock, dragged me half way down the driveway, then stopped abruptly, looked at me with wide eyes (reference- deer in the headlight look), and planted his feet like a donkey letting out a gut churning, panicked (kind of goat-like) whinny to the herd of horses staring at him from the other side of the fence. My heart sank.
Just jitters right? It was a long ride in the trailer after all. Nope! This behavior went on and on. Every day there was no improvement. He wouldn't even eat if there was a person anywhere near the barn. He was wild, did not want to be touched. The first day I was going to try brushing him I remember walking into the barn holding the brush in my hand at my side, not even looking at him. I started thinking of a name for my new boy Hmm, maybe Montana! He was the color of a wild mustang, and as big as the prairie sky! Yeah, maybe Monte would be a good name! As I walked past his stall I was going to just set the brush down outside on a hay bale. He took one look at me, looked at my hand, his eyes grew large, and he turned around and promptly ran himself into the back wall of his stall to try to get away. I sat on the hay and cried. Now it all made sense... the tired look in the photos online, was it poor nutrition, dehydration, drugs? It could have been any or all of the above. What was I going to do?
I sat on that bale for a while quietly and asked him. "What are we going to do here? I took a huge chance on you, and I want to make this work, for your sake, and my own." He looked at me like I was going to eat him, but then quietly began to munch hay in front of me... a first for him. I told him that we were going to try this. I decided "Chance" was a great name for him. Chance led me to him, chance brought us together, and he epitomized the meaning of the word. This was his last chance. After all, he had hit the end of the road, and was off to a slaughter auction.
We started slow. On the ground for a year or so, just working on basic things like haltering, brushing, catching him in pasture, touching him everywhere, walking past buckets, etc, checking everything at the farm out. We progressed to picking his feet, cross tying, and yes, finally accepting treats from a person's hand thanks to my friend Judy's home-made horse treats!
Moving away from that barn and on our own, we both learned how to lunge. He learned the gaits by voice command, he learned how to accept a rider and not be afraid of people. Not just me, all people. I was grabbing every person I saw having them walk up to him, talk to him, pet his shoulder, and give him a treat. We did tons of de-spooking exercises. Time passed and with some professional intervention (after all I am not a trainer), he was doing well under saddle at a walk/trot.
It has been 3 more years since then. My boy and I are inseparable! He comes when I call him, rides reliably at a walk, trot, canter, lunges free or with a line on voice commands alone (he knows 6 different commands), goes on trail, will go thru any obstacle put in front of him, and knows several tricks and stretches. We are avid trail riders, and wish to keep learning and start to compete in hunt paces or trail challenge courses. Yes money is still tight, and there are more bills than ever to pay, but my horse, my Chance, continues to be the largest scariest, and most rewarding chance I have ever taken. I will never regret taking this chance. He has truly changed my life, and the lives of a few others along the way, all for the good.
It has been a few more years now and Chance and I are still best buddies, on trail, on the ground, always together. His little goat-like whinny when he hears me come into the barn melts my heart - I am the ONLY person he will do that for! He spoils me, so I spoil him back.. We definitely saved each other!

Macro Monday -- theme: memories in B&W
Well-worn dog tags from my amazing dog Oreo. Oreo was a mutt: a 55 pound mix of Black Lab, German Shepherd, and who knows what. Got him at 8 weeks old, and I took him everywhere with me. By 12 weeks he was working to hand signals for sit/stay/down/come and I had him modeling in a photo-shoot for a catalog of packs and duffel bags. By 2 years he knew over 40 hand and voice commands -- over, under, around, back, wait, fetch red bone, fetch blue bone, etc. He was smart and loved to learn. As well, he was an amazing Frisbee dog, very fast.
I had a convertible then, and the top was ALWAYS down. (never rains in SoCal!) He loved going with me. Never once did he jump out. In fact, I could stop the car and get out, leaving the door wide open, and I knew he'd not get out until I gave him a command.
We had his brother, too...Sparky. both dogs LOVED fetching and swimming in the pool all year 'round. Remarkably, Oreo was still swimming when he was 15 years old. He made it to 16.
As you see here, I glued the ID tag and the city license tags back-to-back with RTV to keep them quiet. The background in this shot is from one of the leashes I'd made. I made the collars and leads for the dogs, sewing nylon webbing and using Fastex fasteners.
