From Deborah:

It was an honor to do Interpretive Touch Drawing at Seeds of Compassion.

Touch Drawing is a simple yet profound process. Images are created through

the touch of fingertips on paper. The process allows for direct expression

of the soul, and can be used for deep therapeutic and spiritual purposes.

In the conference setting, I use Touch Drawing to visually portray the

content and energetic qualities of the lectures and musical performances.

Through the immediacy of the process, I can create 7- 8 drawings per hour.

These drawing were created during the Tuesday event; 'Inspiring Compassion

in Our Youth; Youth and Spiritual Connection Dialogue'. If you attended the

day or are watching it online, you can use these images to enhance the

feeling-tone of the presentations. Think of them as notes from the soul.

All these images will be posted soon on the CONFERENCE ART page at

www.touchdrawing.com. Go there if you would like to order a signed, archival

fine art print. Contact center@touchdrawing.com if you are interested in

purchasing an original or receiving permission to reproduce an image.

What concept does this card represent to you? Is it something you have seen at work? Please share your thoughts.

(plus afterwards playing with taking screen shot and pasting it, so this looks a bit funky)

Every closed eye is not sleeping, and every open eye is not seeing.

~ Bill Cosby

While highly creative people are also highly productive, they know the best ideas often come when you're not even trying. So when stuck for ideas, sometimes the best solution is really just to sleep on it.

Silence is the sleep that nourishes wisdom.

~ Sir Francis Bacon

Not trying so hard allows your brain to play with the challenge a bit and explore it from different perspectives. The ability to do this effectively is a key part of creativity and a skill highly creative people use deliberately, as well.

A good night's sleep also gives your memory a chance to search for any relevant info stored within and make new connections. The ability to make new and unusual connections is also a key part of creativity and something highly creative folks can do deliberately when needed.

On 17-18 Octobre 2022, over 200 colleagues from the JRC, the European Commission’s science and knowledge department, met for the launch of their new scientific portfolios. During two half-days they discussed these new cross-functional work structures. As member of the JRC, I am proud to be part of the journey for the transformation of our ways of working, and honoured to have taken the visual notes of this event.

The first day was dedicated to the presentation of the different portfolios by the teams (the first 2 images). Colleagues spent the second day discussing the practical aspects of the portfolios in a large World Café exercise. The topics discussed were many and diverse, and interconnections between them even more numerous (the third image). As our Director-General, Stephen Quest, said in the conclusion, it’s a long journey to work in a more integrated way.

I also have a video on YouTube (youtu.be/53iBFqMgxLo) where I show the visual thinking process I used to produce the third image, the complex mindmap. #graphicrecording #visualthinking #graphicharvesting #sketchnotes #sketchingatwork #change #changemanagement #worldcafe #participatoryprocess

At the end of our 1.5 hour session we had a list of action items we wanted to follow up on.

At BarCamp Philly 2009 Carlos Silva led a discussion about how to train your client to work with you in a productive way. This is a graphic recording of the key points that came up.

A tongue-in-cheek timeline of societies influential tools.

We attended a Master Class about the importance of visual thinking. We did practice excersises to improve our drawing skills.

Deep meaning lies often in childish play.

~ Johann Friedrich von Schille

More and more research is being done these days about the benefits and importance of play for people of all ages. Through play, many creative discoveries are made. So it's no surprise that highly creative people are generally playful folks.

Almost all creativity involves purposeful play.

~ Abraham Maslow

There is no fear in play. No fear of failure, success, or being laughed at. This allows for a childlike freshness in thinking, which in turn, can lead to new insights and ideas.

Creativity involves a great deal of playing with ideas, and highly creative highly people value this playtime. They know the best ideas and solutions are often not hiding, just playing a game of peek-a-boo with them.

After 10 years with the same colour on my visual CV, I thought it was time to change it. Indeed, it has been as many years since I joined DG REGIO (@euinmyregion) of the European Commission and the time has come to explore new paths. On the first of March, I joined the DG JRC (EU Science, Research and Innovation). Not as a scientist but rather as an internal consultant serving all Commission services, and from where I will (try to) start with visual consultancy.
