This image is like graphic chitchat, the random things we may discuss if meeting in person before diving into business.
From a mini-workshop I led for Boston area higher education technologist. "Harnesssing Visual Thinking for Project Planning." Great group with folks from Brandeis, Wellesley, Harvard, Brandeis, Tufts, Wheaton College, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Thanks to David G. Wedaman of Brandeis for being the point man in coordinating the event!

Increasingly, I find that I think of my chalk board in terms of multiple layers of information. The center part is me writing a paragraph answering the question at the top, and the right hand side is the framework or rubric that I'm using to write this paragraph. The left (out of sight) is the special schedule for tomorrow), and above it is the date in Mayan, Chinese, and English.

Customers and prospects are confused and seem puzzled, disinterested, sometimes even frustrated or angry.

This is pretty good. I now know that SD has done the reading, because she's got two pieces on the Neolithic Era, and they're in the right place, connected with the appearance of domesticated animals and the first appearance of farming towns. AG has the right idea, because he's got the technology/material use of chalk as a human tool in the right place. So does TW, who's noticing the presence of fish nets in the world at about the same time that sea-going boats are possible. SS is looking ahead, because one of his domesticated species is papyrus, from Egypt. Awesome.

To explain what are the different visual techniques used by a visual thinker, I illustrated them in this digital drawing.
I use Graphic Facilitation and Graphic Co-creation as thinking tools for better discussions due to a different meeting setup. Both help people to find solutions, to innovate, to brainstorm, to reach consensus, to make decisions. Compared to the following techniques, the level of involvement of participants is high in these two techniques, and very high in graphic co-creation.
I use Graphic Recording or Sketchnotes to visually capture live the main messages of your conference, meeting, or training. This helps participants to “see” their thoughts, to consider the topic being presented and discussed from another angle, and to better retain information and learning. Depending on the circumstances, I work on a large mural or on a sketchbook.
I use Visual Communication with hand-drawn illustrations to attract people's attention incredibly. It gives more impact to your message, which is better understood and memorised by your audience. This is the technique with the lowest involvement level of the participants.

We can't learn and grow fast enough to keep up with our business needs. When we hire new people, it takes too long to bring them up to speed.
