Stand up to racism

A racist offensive against refugees, migrants and Muslims is being pushed by some politicians and press. It is crucial we

respond to this by standing in solidarity against attempts to divide our communities. The appalling treatment of refugees across Europe and the staggering rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes must be challenged.

Let’s send a message that drives back the tide of racism, fascism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and the scapegoating of migrants and refugees – we say refugees welcome here and yes to diversity!

Join the Europe-wide UN Anti-Racism Day Demonstration when tens of thousands march across Britain, with major mobilisations in London, Scotland and Wales joining thousands in cities across Europe and around the world to say no to racism.

Stand Up To Racism has led some of the biggest anti-racist

mobilisations in Britain of the last decade, including the UN Anti-racism day demonstrations of 2014 and 2015 and the 100,000 strong Refugees Welcome demonstration on 12th September 2015."

"An optical illusion (also called a visual illusion) is characterized by visually perceived images that differ from objective reality. The information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source. There are three main types: literal optical illusions that create images that are different from the objects that make them, physiological ones that are the effects on the eyes and brain of excessive stimulation of a specific type (brightness, colour, size, position, tilt, movement), and cognitive illusions, the result of unconscious inferences."

In conjunction with Brown's Year of China, Paul Myoda, Assistant Professor, Visual Art Department's spring semester sculpture studio produced this large-scale light installation inspired by the annual Lantern Festivals celebrated across China. Each of the fifteen students created and produced their own original lantern design. A group of engineering students, led by Rashid Zia, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering, designed and built LED light circuits for each sculpture. Programmed to reference the fluttering firelight of traditional Chinese lanterns, over three hundred sculptures blanket the facade of the Granoff Center for one night only. For more information please visit Year of China.

The need to facilitate orientation and communication through visual organization principles, was the starting point for the design of the uniforms of official personnel during the Olympic Games.

A contest judge had to look different from a ticket controller, a health worker from a technician. All told 88 groups of persons needed special uniforms. To make this multitude clearly understandable the personnel was categorized in superordinate groups under the aspect of related functions:

Personnel of the Organizing Committee

Contest judges

Technical services

Hostesses

Doctors and health personnel

Security guards

Sport site personnel

Cleaning personnel

This is a visual journal I'm making as I work through the book "Your Heart's Desire" by Sonia Choquette. I've decided to work differently than I usually do--I'm "prepping" the pages before I do the journaling instead of doing it all at the same time.

Pages done for Decorated Page Workshop, Lesson 6 Lists & Collections/Organic Shapes. I didn't paste down the one we actually chose, because it's in my husband's pocket so he can pick up the paint.
