Street art is visual art created in public locations, usually unsanctioned artwork executed outside of the context of traditional art venues. The term gained popularity during the graffiti art boom of the early 1980s and continues to be applied to subsequent incarnations. Stencil graffiti, wheatpasted poster art or sticker art, and street installation or sculpture are common forms of modern street art. Video projection, yarn bombing and Lock On sculpture became popularized at the turn of the 21st century.

The terms "urban art", "guerrilla art", "post-graffiti" and "neo-graffiti" are also sometimes used when referring to artwork created in these contexts.[1] Traditional spray-painted graffiti artwork itself is often included in this category, excluding territorial graffiti or pure vandalism.

Street art is often motivated by a preference on the part of the artist to communicate directly with the public at large, free from perceived confines of the formal art world.[2] Street artists sometimes present socially relevant content infused with esthetic value, to attract attention to a cause or as a form of "art provocation".[3]

Street artists often travel between countries to spread their designs. Some artists have gained cult-followings, media and art world attention, and have gone on to work commercially in the styles which made their work known on the streets.

Camera Olympus E500. This was a pure abstract . It consisted of the first layer being a reflection of light on bamboo shades off a poster that i shot with a zoomed effect creating the tent part of the shot. The second layer was just another sunset. The X just appeared upon layering. The shot was illustrated with Corel and transferred to Exposure 2 for a Lomo Kodak film effect. I named it after the X because i thought it was appropriate.

Nullsleep rips it up with hard-hitting Game Boy data rock; visuals by No Carrier.

In the landscape, next to the lane heading to the castle of Hex, you can find four tree tents where you can spend the night. The tear-shaped sculptures are hanging from the standard trees and provide an alternative form of accommodation to spend a night in Haspengouw. The work of Dré Wapenaar (NL) is always situated on the border between architecture and sculpture, between a stay and a meet. His sculptures are mainly tent constructions that are placed temporarily. The social interaction around the work is of great importance for the artist.

3rd graders at James John Elementary in North Portland worked with visual artists Amy Steel and Alice Hill to create a large clay mural that depicts features of the neighborhood around their school, corresponding with their social studies curriculum. Through writing exercises, students were also challenged to think more deeply about the history of their neighborhood and what their community means to them.

Visual art and music today seem inherently intertwined. Music videos of musicians garbed in theatrical costumes or outlandish fashion have all become common place. Of course this present-day art form could readily be traced to Hollywood and stage musicals, which in turn are offshoot of the opera. Paintings and reliefs celebrating musicians go back to the Egyptians and perhaps even earlier. History, music and visual art, in other words, inevitably harmonize each other.

In grazing about the rich pastures of art museums in three continents, I’ve photographed dozens of masterpieces illustrating the evolution of music itself across time. For instance, the lute as you will see in these paintings was the staple stringed instrument of the Renaissance through the Baroque Period. The other instrument painted by masters that time has forgotten is the lyre. Like a character fatally wounded in an opera, the lute suddenly disappeared by the mid to late nineteenth century and has since been replaced by the guitar in modern paintings.

Trivial as this may all seem, this collection of masterpieces---by Caravaggio, Vermeer, Corot, Renoir, Degas, Picasso, Braque, Matisse, to name a few--- is a fine example of visual art serving as a vital vessel of history, a time capsule if you will, that delivers images and information that we would otherwise have not grasped.

Artist Biographies:

Mike Helke holds an MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Prior to that, he studied ceramics at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and spent formative years as a studio artist and employee of Northern Clay Center. Helke recently moved to Stillwater, MN, where he maintains a studio. Helke says of his work, “As a maker, the action of my hand can trace the memory or energy of an experience through elusive rhythms generated by form, positive and negative shapes, and building process marks.” Helke’s work has been exhibited regionally and nationally, most recently in the exhibition New Work—Mike Helke and Sarah Jaeger, TRAX Gallery, Berkley, CA; as part of the Artstream Nomadic Gallery, NCECA 2015, Providence, RI; and in the Yunomi Invitational, AKAR Gallery, Iowa City, IA. In 2008, he received a Jerome Ceramic Artist Project Grant, awarded by Northern Clay Center.

Tom Jaszczak received a BA in Visual Art and a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Bemidji State University. Tom was an assistant to both Simon Levin and Tara Wilson. He was a summer resident and a long-term resident at the Archie Bray Foundation. In the fall of 2015 Tom began a 3-year residency with his wife Maggie Finlayson at Penland School of Crafts and have recently become parents. Tom has received several awards and honors including, a Jerome Projects Grant, Emerging Artist Award at NCECA, Lincoln and Lil Street Fellowship through the Archie Bray Foundation and in the Summer 2014 Tom was an Honored Maker at the Maker’s Faire at the White House. Tom exhibits his work at several galleries around the nation, this includes exhibitions at the Holter Museum of Art, Greenwich House Pottery, Trax Gallery, the Pottery Show at the Old Church, Northern Clay Center and Leedy Voulkos Art Center. this is what was broken down from the whole branch...(next set of images of whole branch)

everything broke down into these main structure groupings...

the whole broke up into these simple set of shapes and similar sizes...

even though they are still very different from each other in some way or other there is such a similarity and simplicity I was very surprised indeed...

the two random twigs on the far right bottom were the only two random structures I found in this whole branch...since working with other branches from the same tree I have found each branch has two or three totally random shapes...
