Day 3 / Southern Iceland Flúðir - VÃk
At the beginning of May, the temperature was around 5°C for the entire trip in southern Iceland.
Rain, wind, a good waterproof windbreaker is a must.
With several layers of merino wool under a light fleece and waterproof hiking pants, I never felt cold, and my movements were never restricted.
Hike "Bird nesting cliffs near VÃk" / 2.30 hrs
After a climb from the village of VÃk, I find myself in a vast meadow swept by a strong wind.
From the top of the cliff, I discover the beach of Reynisfjara as I had never imagined it. At the end of the hike, I enjoy a panoramic view of the village of VÃk in the evening light.

The container is made from drift wood and was used by Warsaw Pact troops for the sterilisation of surgical instruments before becoming a wool shop.
Driving through Vik looking for some dinner, we spotted the church lit up on the hill looking quite serene against the mountainous backdrop. After snapping a couple of quick shots before we froze, we ended up back at the service station for dinner...
This is the southernmost coastal hamlet of the country and the only one without a harbour. The flat, black beach south of the village was declared one of the 10 most beautiful island beaches of the world by the Iceland Magazine. Amphibious vehicles were used for deep sea angling, fishing and highly interesting sightseeing tours along the coastline all the way to the country's southernmost point, Dyrholaey. This activity was discontinued, but is on offer at the farm Dyrholaey, a bit further west. There is also Travel Café Tourist Information Centre. Large bird breeding colonies are on both sides of the village, arctic terns, puffins, guillemots, fulmars, kittiwakes etc. There are many other possibilities for recreation in Vik and its surroundings, bird watching, hiking, glacier tours etc. If you are travelling to the west from Vik, you should take a look at the current road and weather conditions on Moorland Vikurskard. The distance from the capital is 192 km.
