Vik, Iceland.
I almost lost my tripod and camera for this shot! I was a bit worried when the water was up around the legs of my tripod but I just had to get it :)
The sand was very fine and black, which played tricks with the light sensor. A bit different to beaches in the Pacific!

Called into Vik for the last sunset of the trip as we made our way back to the airport. The sun was still high enough to create these rays between the sea stacks in the spray, I need to get back to Iceland and do some more exploring!

This fantastic view is of the town of Vikøyri (or simply Vik) in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway.
The town has two historic churches. The Hopperstad Stave Church and the Hove Stone Church.
In the distance is Sognefjorden, Norway's longest fjord.
In the summer of 2002, my Norwegian cousin, Villy, and I spent three days driving through the fjords. It was a wonderful experience. We visited Vik.

Incontestablement les plus belles lumières et les plus belles couleurs que nous ayons eu de tout notre séjour en Islande avec Nicolas Le Dilhuit, Philippe Manguin et Mathieu Rivrin.
La plage de Vik, réputée pour être une des plus belles du monde, nous aura réservée un coucher de soleil et un ciel embrasé comme on en voudrait tous les jours :)
This is probably a first for me... A shot which I've used just one adjustment layer on in Photoshop! The cool hazy sunrise on the beach at Vik in Iceland just produced such a nice image in my RAW file that I decided to leave it virtually as-is, except for a minor colour correction in the highlights.

We stopped here for lunch, spent in the car, watching the snow come down. There were a few other people trying to take photographs here, so while my wife ate I slid down to the beach, literally, and I tried my hand at a few photo's. I put a filter on and tried for a blurry wave shot. I actually spent most of my time wiping snow off my equipment. There is no substitute for sunshine!
This is the last of my Lofoten shots, until next winter when the long, dull, rainy, English winter stops photography and I delve into the archives and see if anything else can be retrieved and posted!
Thanks to everyone who has faved or commented on these pictures. The Lofoten Islands are really beautiful and if you can visit them, then do so. The time of year maybe important though. All these shots were in winter and you are really limited in where you can go (or park a car). You can't stray far from the road because of the deep snow so trekking up mountains is out! Summertime must be wonderful.

Iceland is still my favourite place to travel, love the nature, people,and the landscapes, but it is changing, too many tourists are destroying the beauty op Iceland, the government is planting trees everywhere, so soon a lot of nice landscapes will disappear and Iceland will look like Alaska where when driving on the big road you only see trees, hiding the landscpes, for hundreds of kilometers, go to Vik and see for yourself , this ain't the same anymore

been sick with the flu and been busy selling our appartment and buying a house and stuff! and now we are about to move in the next couple of weeks! so i guess i will be kinda of until we get settled in our new house!!

Angry waves that look so soft due to the slow shutter. In reality, these were huge and dangerous but oh so fun to watch. I was forced off the sandy beach.
A remote church near a town called Vik, Iceland.
It is part of the National Church of Iceland, as are most of the churches, which is a Lutheran branch of Christianity.

On the southern tip of Iceland lies the small town of Vik. It has the most wonderful black sand beach - very soft to walk on - and with views out to the Reynisdrangur - a very jagged rock outcrop just off the southern coast.
Perched on a rock for this long exposure at the amazing black beach of Vik.
I recently got my first 100k views. Probably not a huge milestone, but a milestone nontheless. I've still never made it to Explore...
The Myrdal Church stands above the small town of Vík on the south coast of Iceland. In the distance you can see some of the sea stacks located near the black sand beach of Reynisfjara.
the previous shot in my photo stream is vik looking out to the sea, if you turn around this is what you would see. The town nestled to the left and just beyond the small hill where the church lays atop. Rain or shine, Vik is a photographic paradise.
