La Marea took was a series of 9 vignettes that took place in the 0 - 100 block of Vancouver's Waterfront street. Performances took place in store windows, in the street and in apartments.
When strangers walk past you on the street, do you ever start imagining what they are thinking? Where they come from? Or what they are doing there at the very moment you glance upon them?
At night and in real time, moving from the pavement to illuminated windows, from balconies to cafeĢ terraces, La Marea presents nine different storiesāintimate snapshots that bring the zero hundred block of Water Street in historic Gastown to life for the opening of the 2011 PuSh Festival. These fictional scenes are repeated over the course of the evening in shop windows and on street corners, where audience members can observe the charactersā inner thoughts through projected subtitles.
Of course those of you who are budding botanists will recognize the unique profile of the tree in the background...I hope someone can identify it and then reveal the location of the shot.
The post office, as actually taken by the Vignette camera driver. It was snowing an inch an hour. Notice how much muddier this is than the platinotype.
