Plain grey card, clouded sky illumination, infinity focus.

I came across one of my "old school" homemade vignette/filter holders yesterday and thought I'd share it with you who have never seen such gadgets before. It is made from a clear plastic bow which was glued together and painted. The vignettes are made from heavy plastic or mylar, frosted on one side. the openings are cut according to specific uses or needs. Some calculations had to be made as to what lens f stop combinations were to be used to prevent seeing the edge of the vignette. Some were painted to work with low key and the unpainted saw tooth vignette can be "lit up" with a small flash unit to completely burn it out with high key and white background. Digital sure makes life easier. The box/holder would slip over a lens shade mounted on the camera. It was simple although time consuming to make at the time. High tech for it's time. The background for this display i shot through one of the vignettes with a digital point & shoot Nikon.

Vignette d’une banderole pour emballage

Photoshop concept rendering of a Little Havana vignette for a corporate event.

Epson R-D1x with CV Color Skopar 25 F4P.

If i were smart enough to shoot raw, I will be able to remove the vignette with Epson Photolier.

My camera app mysteriously stopped working after this.

f/2, manual focus using live view, The island might be slightly more in focus than the background. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.

Had the strangest feeling I was being followed today. Please comment and fave. 64

29 December 2008 364/366

For FGR, Project 366 2008, and Vignette Sluts

Vignette inspired by the Coruscant scenes in Andor and brutalist architecture.

Also a further experiment with brick built shadows using flat silver & dark bluish grey

Built for @JakobKaiserMOCs custom works contest, intended for Dedra Meero

Thanks to Brock's bricks for all the flat silver parts.

I dislike brutalist architecture from a idealogical and beauty standpoint, but it can look cool :P

Thrown together because I don't feel good. 41

Some funny vignettes with characters of Lego City Mafia that I hosted last year on Doublebrick.ru! Were used to introduce all the cast. Guess who of them was among the Mafia!

a few friends I picked up along the way.

A awesome giraffe screenprint picked up at Art Vs. Craft.

A vinyl crib toy picked up in PA at an antique store, SO cute and it's so in tune with the print!

Vintage record picked up at the local thrift. Deer head and lamb cake topper from an estate sale. Vintage postcard and jar. And ceramic piece by Tasha McKelvey!

This is my Desert Ruins Vignette, I expect to expand upon this in the near future.

Delphine - My favorite Barbie of all time, and most definitely my favorite in the BFMC.

Traveling with one lens

I am lacking old photos (I have one, I think), so I decided to go with the vignette styling, which is kind of storytelling. I like our bathroom a lot - what with the tiles, shelving and our old mirror. I have these postcards I bought in St. Petersburg this past summer at a photo museum, so I decided to use those as the storytelling and art focal point. They feature Soviet era images and hold many stories in and of themselves.

So while this is a different sort of vignette, I think the stories are for the viewer to decipher.

P.S. I did try photographing this with a vignette border on my camera lens (using construction paper), but I didn't like the vignette.

Vignette is a small illustration or portrait photograph that fades into its background without a definite border.
