Batman Vs. Bat Lord!
Dark Knight Vs. Fright Knight!!
Bruce Vs. Basil!!!
My entry to the 12x12 Vignette category for the Summer Joust 2020, pitting Excalibur Batman against Basil the Bat Lord!
Jays are several species of medium-sized, usually colorful and noisy, passerine birds in the crow family Corvidae
Timeworn but magnificent, dilapidated but dignified, fun yet maddeningly frustrating. Havana is a city of indefinable magic - Havana, Cuba
This is my ambassador vignette for the LEGO Ambassador Building Challenge #1. I took an artistic approach and focused on the theme of imagination. Following my favorite quote about the brick: "LEGO is more than a toy; when played by a creative mind it becomes a medium to channel the wonders of imagination," here is my vignette called Just Add Imagination.
The central focus of the model is the classic red 2X4 brick, symbolizing LEGO and its universality. Of course, the world of LEGO is not without people, and everyone takes part in this great hobby. The golden aura adds just a dazzle of wonder and awe to the amazing phenomenon of the brick, and the floating grey 1X1 bricks represent the endless possibilities with LEGO. Alas, I stand at the bottom of the statue and add my contributions.
Here's what we were asked to build:
"We'd like each of you to build a standard 8x8 vignette that represents you and your interests within the world of LEGO building and community. Please be as creative as you can."
After the Lake Pátzcuaro butterefly fishermen put on a tourist show on how they fish by net, all but one of them line up holding their nets out while one of them canvasses the tourist boat for Pesos.
The fish they catch in Lake Pátzcuaro are called Charalitos: small lake fish, fried in large flat pans and served as a snack with salt, chili, and lime.
Not the healthiest snack, but a unique taste for the more adventurous. And not a good idea IMO because:
Until 2007, only Pátzcuaro had a water treatment facility with smaller communities discharging wastewater directly into the lake, causing grave pollution problems. Contamination has mostly been chemical, trash and wastewater, as well as sediment during the rainy season.
The critical areas are near the two main villages, Patzcuaro and Janitzio.
Not be catching me eating any of the little morsels.
The butterfly fisherman were also located on the back of the $50 Peso Mexican banknote.
Oohhhh surreal. I actually had a little bit more time today and I've had this idea for a day or two now, so I decided to build it. 313
There's been a tsunami of production art from the developers of TLOU2 on Artstation lately, which has been amazing. The lush, green, verdant world of the game is eerily beautiful (especially when the artwork doesn't feature any murderous NPCs).
It's a game I'd normally watch a walkthrough of but goddamn, the violence is just too much for me. The characters are really interesting and the environment is beautiful but phew, nope, can't handle that. I'm happy enough with the art :-)
Another in the 'vignette with open door' series ;)
A lot of ambient via the windows to the right, plus some flash bounced off the wall/ceiling far right.
Are the highlights on the picture frames too much?
Should I bring out more detail in the pictures themselves?
Does this look over-exposed? I started using a new monitor this week and I'm not feeling super comfortable with it yet. I've got it color calibrated, but my images are looking different on the new monitor than they are in other places (laptop, iPad, etc)....differences in exposure, contrast, saturation. So I'm not completely trusting my images on the new monitor.
Did some color correction to even out the wall color (hope not too much?)...originally it was very warm/red at the bottom and skewing towards blue at the top. Also did an overall blue desaturation of about -40 in Lightroom. The daylight plus long shutter speed were wreaking their usual havoc on the colors... :)
Feedback and suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!
The first in a series of vignettes showcasing fantasy minifigures. I wanted to narratively and visually tie the vignettes together, an idea I first explored in an old sci-fi figbarf. I decided to incorporate a gold star element into each build, and from this, a story emerged.
1. A mysterious figure offers a gold star to an unseen recipient in the depths of the forest.
The tree trunks are made using an old pentagon technique. This technique was very unwieldy when I discovered it nearly ten years ago, but new pieces have now made it very workable! I think the resulting texture works great for tree bark.
1. Opportunity
2. Strike
3. Rule
4. Fool

Lots of ambient, with some flash bounced in from the far right (also more windows over there). Client requested a strong window view (this qualifies as 'strong' for me :) so the windows are from an exposure that was about 1/20 shutter speed. She and I both said 'Let's try it with the door open?' at the same time, though wish I hadn't opened it quite so far (maybe should crop just to the right of the left/white edge of the doorframe?)
This was shot for a designer. Won't be delivering until next week, so plenty of time to make improvements, if anyone has suggestions.
Feedback is always appreciated. Thank you!
This is my first vignette and one of my latest creations. I was going for something sleek and simple yet still detailed. It represents just a small section of a hallway or corridor that could be seen in some type of star wars or space base.
