I was in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness earlier in January. It was a miserable, rainy day: the kind of day that grows the moss you see everywhere in this picture. I overexposed this one, or, more truthfully, I let the camera overexpose it. I started to make it look like it actually did on that day, but I decided that I like this better.

The Ghost Town of Locust Grove lies along Rt 206 in Sherman County, Oregon, and consiss of this church, a few farms, and a house or three. They put a new roof on it a few years ago to preserve it. We’ll see what else is in store for it as time rolls on.

This was the first time I made it to Thor's Well since I have lived in Oregon. The day was very bright, and a little washed out, but the contrast at this spot was spectacular, so black and white was the obvious choice. I didn't need any contrast filters to make it pop.

I went out today for some pictures a little closer to home because the pandemic is pickng up speed again. I took the infrared camera out to Crown Point, and had a rare opportunity to photograph it without cars in the parking lot.

What a difference a Split Neutral Density filter can make. The sky looks a bit angry with that beg, black patch of storm clouds above. I wasn’t quite expecting this look, but, hey, I’ll take it.
There was a little problem with the development on this one. Some of the blacks turned a tad red, but them's the breaks.
I also think I have posted enough images from Cape Horn lately, so I will wait a while to post more.

I took a short hike to see how well I could travel with a backpack cantaining both my newest 4x5 film camera, and my Nikon D810, along with about 10 lenses. Add a tripod, and bottle of water, and it turned out to be too much for my shoulders. I can't carry as much as I used to. I got this picture, though.
This sopt is near the Bonneville Dam in the Columbia Gorge, along the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.

I have been taking pictures around this area for 15 years. It’s one of those places where the whole is gerater than the sum of its parts. It is impossible to capture it in a single picture. It’s a long, ragged cliff face built by volcanoes, scoured by the Missoula Floods, and eroded by time and weather.

I have tried in vain to get this picture for years, but I never seem to be in the right place, or it ends up blurry, or my timing isn't quite right. This time was different. The train was moving at about 40mph, and I had the ISO cranked up to 800 with a wide angle lens at f11. I finally have it!

The Winter natural wreckage at McCord Creek in the wake of the Eagle Creek Fire is on display. The trail had been closed for 3 years since the fire, and it finally opened up on the 1st. This was my first attempt at focus stacking in Photoshop, and I'm happy to report that it worked. Next time, I will take more pictures, so that I can get the entire picture in focus, but I like it. I think it also would have helped if it was not a windy day.

I was out at the Oregon Coast with Gaia in mid January 2023, and I had the Deardorff in tow. The weather was not cooperating, but I really wanted to get some film pictures out of it, so I set up at Agate Beach, and noticed that the creek would make a decent composition. The scene was dim and drab, so I added a red filter to give it more contrast. It's not bad. I souped it in Ilfotec HC in some old Kodak tanks. You can see the rain coming in from the north if you look toward the hill. I had to pack up quickly just after I took this picture.

There is not much of this creek that is readily explorable, but this spot, which is near the Devil's Creek Lake fork of the Wilson River, is readily accessible from Oregon's Route 6 in the Coast Range.

I took the Twirly Camera out to the Oregon Coast recently, and stood on a grassy knoll near the famed Haystack Rock. I avoided a drone, and the mask-optional crowd to get this picture.
I developed it in a new Arista tank that I just bought. They didn’t put the amount of liquid to use, and I had the film in it already, so I estimated. Most tanks take about 500ml for medium format, right? Wrong. The bottom 1/4” was very light. It takes 600ml. I corrected that with the next roll. I lost a little of the bottom of this picture.

The weather forecast threatened sunshine east of Hood River, so that's where I went. There was sun, clouds, ranbows, and sudden downpours. One downpour chased me away from this spot hust as I had my new Toyo 4x5 set up. I never got to take the picture, though. Instead, I have this blur-fest from the Lensbaby. I'm still learning how to do the tilts on a small camera. I may have overdone it here, because the sharp spot is at the bottom, instead of where I thought I had put it, which is on the white house in the middle.

This is Little Zigzag Falls near Rhododendron, Oregon. It is located in the foothills west of Mt. Hood. I am taking a hatis from my explorations of the Columbia Gorge to focus on the Mt. Hood area. This is my last picture of the Charles Nelson House near The Dalles, Oregon. It burned the next summer in the Substation Fire. I am happy that I got the picture on infrared film.

This one has a classic slide film look because, well, it it slide film. Slide film tends to not hold detail in shadows when exposing for a sunrise or sunset. You get mostly a silhouette.

This is one of my favorite areas in the country. It’s along the Columbia River in Klickitat County in Southern Washington. It’s in the rainshadow created by the Cascade Mountains, and has a semi-arid climate. It’s beautiful, rugged, and stark.

The weekend after 2021's "snow event" saw me out in the Eastern Columbia Gorge to experience some of the only sunshine in the state. By afternoon, however, the storm clouds gathered over Mosier, and the rain came through like a vertical lake. Weather in the Pacific Northwest is known for its ability to accomodate metaphor.

I was in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness earlier in January. It was a miserable, rainy day: the kind of day that grows the moss you see everywhere in this picture. I overexposed this one, or, more truthfully, I let the camera overexpose it. I started to make it look like it actually did on that day, but I decided that I like this better.

The third picture in my Lensbaby series for downtown Troutdale, Oregon. This is with the Twist 60, but ut was stopped down to F8, so the swirly bokeh is at a minimum. There is a difinite sharp spon in the middle, and the bokeh extends out in all directions from there.
