A study of cult film on the now defunct Video Home System. Artists from across the country will cut, paint, print and deface VHS copies of their favorite films from the past. Join us as we celebrate the lost experience of late night trips to the video store, When you could rent your favorite tape, wear it out play after play and return it (without rewinding). The show will take place during Exhumed Films annual 24 Hour Horror-Thon at the I-House in Philadelphia. For one night only, we’re turning the lobby of the theater into your favorite local video store.

This is one of two tunnels that you run through during the Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon. Remember that this is a Rails to Trails trail. This tunnel is encountered at like 24 miles so the suffering is pretty extreme by this time.

People have complained about the tunnels - but I think they are really cool. It is cool and dark, and as you can see from this video this is sort of like the story you always hear about near death experience - going through a tunnel, heading towards a light. Except I didn't die - I ended up at the other side of the tunnel.
Don't worry about the sound of my breathing - it sounds worse than it actually was. But funny thing how the sounds and sights turn weird in the middle of the tunnel - it sounds like ghosts in a Stephen King story. Much fun!

Blockbuster Video outlet in Sunbury still operating in the main shopping area near Woolworths and Big W.
Blockbuster has operated video (later DVD) rental shops in Australia since 1991, with steady growth in the 1990's and early 2000's. The Australian division was sold to local video chain Video Ezy which operated franchise stores under its own name.
Both chains still operate but with steadily shrinking numbers of stores due to the slow and steady impact firstly of cable TV (mid 1990's), and more recently and significantly the internet.
I've known this was coming for some time. It's a hallmark of the gaw-dumbed cell phone generation. Vertical format video.
I noticed this vertical format video display in the grocery section of Walmart today. The demonstration video was actually shot in "cell phone format," and the display monitor is oriented vertically.
It's only a matter of time before a big-screen Hollywood film is shot in this format.
The only reason I'm sitting here typing this caption rather than having already beaten in my own head with a meat tenderizing mallet is that, after my initial frenzy of fury at the stupidity of the general public, I recalled that just yesterday I was looking at the website of somebody who still shoots and processes photos on metal plates, tintype style.
So there's a place for archaic formats. Even, perhaps, for horizontally-oriented film and video. Maybe even for 16:9 widescreen. Or VistaVision. Or PanaVision. Or Cinemascope. Or... heck, Edison's old square format is better than... ugh... vertical video.
And not that it matters, 'cuz I'm only one out of 350-million in this country and one out of 7.5-billion in the world, but I absolutely refuse to even watch vertical format video.
