We cut a hole in this plastic foundation vent so we could vent the clothes dryer out this way (you don't want screening to trap the lint as that could become a fire hazard).

The Rufous-vented Tit (Periparus rubidiventris) is a small passerine bird belonging to the family Paridae. It is also known by other names such as Rufous-vented Titmouse or Rufous-naped Tit. This bird species is native to the mountainous regions of East Asia, specifically found in North East of India, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The Rufous-vented Tit has a distinctive appearance with a compact body measuring about 12 centimeters (4.7 inches) in length. It features a combination of gray, black, and white plumage, with a prominent rufous-colored vent (lower belly and undertail coverts) that gives it its name. The head has a black cap, and the cheeks and nape are white. The wings and tail are predominantly black with white wing bars.
This tit species inhabits a variety of forested habitats in its range. It is commonly found in broadleaf forests, mixed forests, and mountainous regions with dense vegetation. It shows a preference for areas with a significant presence of coniferous trees like pines and firs, as well as areas with shrubs and bamboo thickets. It tends to reside at higher altitudes, typically between 1,000 and 3,500 meters (3,300 to 11,500 feet) above sea level.
The Rufous-vented Tit is an active and acrobatic bird that forages primarily in tree canopies. It feeds on a diverse diet, including insects, spiders, small fruits, and seeds. It often moves in small groups or mixed-species foraging flocks, actively searching for food by probing and gleaning in the foliage.
During the breeding season, which typically occurs from March to July, Rufous-vented Tits construct cup-shaped nests made of grass, moss, and feathers. These nests are usually located in tree cavities or tree hollows, providing protection for the eggs and nestlings. The female lays a clutch of 4-8 eggs, and both parents take turns incubating them and caring for the young.
Overall, the Rufous-vented Tit is a charming bird species known for its striking appearance and its ability to adapt to various mountainous habitats. Its presence adds color and vitality to the East Asian forests it calls home.
