Notre Dame, seen from the Left Bank.

This is a full size replica of the torch on the Statue of Liberty in NY, sent by the US as a thank you gift for. . . something I can't remember.

The Institut de France is home to five academies, the most famous being the language-regulating Académie Française. The Institut also manages approximately 1,000 other cultural institutions, from foundations, libraries, and museums.

Constructed during the French Revolution, the Pont de la Concorde features stones from the old Bastille prison. In the background, to the left, you can see the roof of the Grand Palais.

As you can probably guess, the obélisque de Louxor on the place de la Concorde is Egyptian in origin. Then-viceroy Méhémet Ali actually offered two obelisks to France; the other was returned to Egypt during François Mitterand's term in the 1980s.

Made me think of "Striking Distance"

The three statues represent the cities of Orléans, Bordeaux, and Nantes, the line's main destinations.

In line for the boat ride. This is my second. Mom's first. And while Karen and Ron went one here earlier in the week, they were distracted by keeping their grandchildren from falling overboard, and didn't really get to enjoy the tour. So they wanted to go again.
