Michael Orton invented this technique in the mid-1980's, where he achieved the effect by superimposing two slides (analog), which is why this type of photography is also known as the sandwich - technique.
Once upon a time (LoL) I read about the Orton effect and loved it.
To create an Orton Effect image, first create a sharp, correctly exposed photo, and then a blurred image that is 2-3 f-stops overexposed. The effect varies depending on the amount of blurring. A tripod must be used because the images must be absolutely congruent, the image must be in RAW and in manual mode. Then both photographs have to be overlaid with an image processing program (Photoshop) and then multiplied.
Open the photos in a RAW software of your choice. Make basic adjustments - contrast - white balance ect.
Open the photos in PS. With the move - tool you drag the blurred photo onto the sharp photo. You can then use the blending mode to create the characteristic effect. The best:> Lighten -> Multiply negative and> Soft light. Then go to> Layer / New Adjustment Layer / Gradiation Curves and adjust the photo until you like it. Depending on how picturesque you want it to be. I haven't done much of anything because it's a beautiful tree anyway. I was absolutely amazed how the colors changed. The originals are really different to the end result. My advice is to choose a motif that doesn't have as much empty space as mine here. I will definitely test it more often.
I smiled all over my face, as I went through the variuos steps.
Have fun testing dear HSS people ;-)

An integral part of peace-keeping on most of the colonies, the urban riot control walker was designed to swiftly quiet down any signs of unrest. Commonly known as Oxen, it is equipped with two twin-barrel granade launchers and an advanced monitoring system for facial recognition. Despite its bulky look, the rotating treads make it very maneuverable.
So this is my entry to the first responder category for space jam. Had a lot of fun designing this thing and took some inspiration from variuos awesome sci-fi builders out there (Oscar to name one). Hope you like it and make sure to check out the other entries in the Flickr group, there are plenty of good stuff there.
Finally a big thanks to the organizers of this annual (?) contest!

Ten minutes after the "Golden Waters" shot the scene had changed again. This is shot from the exact same location as the last shot but using my 10mm wide angle lens. The tiny bump near the center of the shot is Mt. Tom. Mt. Tom is the prominate landscape feature in the area. It is about 800 feet higher than the river. At variuos times is has accomodated two summit houses (both burned down) a cable railway, a ski area and an amusement Park (Mountain Park). It currently is a State Reservation with many wonderful hiking trails.

Lamhani is a slightly derogative usage for a community of nomads who have traversed the Earth with their donkeys, carts and beongings carrying salt from the salt mines to variuos places. Infact the nomads moved on towards Europe to become the gypsys not losing much of their nomad characteristics.
The Lahmani or the Lambadiyas live in a commune in the interior of Karnataka around Gadag and engage themeselves in activities like selling trinkets etc in touristy destinations. The goods transportation systems have changed over the millenia and these ancestral people must chage as well eventhough the plaited hair with silver bells on them and the arm bands and the distinctive clothes and jewellery continues to be an essential part of their day to day life.

A typical example of eclectic archtecture, Castel Vinci, hides at Castanea, hilly village a few kilometres from the city centre. It was designed by engineer Vincenzo Vinci and dates back to the first phase of reconstruction of Messina after the 1908 earthquake. The decorative repertoire of the villa recalls a medieval style with turrets, double lancet windows and grotesque friezes. The construction, composed of variuos buildings, is in harmony with the lanscape of the Peloritani mountains. Besides the original architecture and lush vegetation, the visit is pleasant and interesting thanks to the presence of various stone fragments coming from the rubble of the catastrophic earthquake.

Watercolour done on Saunders Waterford " High White " 140LB cold pressed with W&N & M Graham watercolours.
This painting actually started out as a standard scenic landscape however,it became apparent that my inner soul was coming out and the more i progressed the more i enhanced & try to tell a vision & a story all within the one painting,It is highly symbolic & religious concept but i will explain what i was trying to achieve and hence the use of such a bright white paper. The leaves represent individuals, all different represented by variuos different tons ,shapes & shades, the lighter ones are the ones near enlightenment and progressing back through to the darker shades is how far they are into their journey of enlightenment. whilst the ones deep in shadow , live on the dark side of life,However, their is still slight catchlights which represent a glimmer of hope for them. The bunches of grapes represent mankind in unity trying to get along with one another and some bunches aremore in harmony than others whilst the one in heavy shadow are the societies at war and in civil unrest, again there are glimmers of hope ! you will notice also that there are only a couple of leaves with veins, this was intentional as these are the enlightened few who are the shepards and lastly the light at its brightest, basicly more or less untouched paper is our goal.
Chimney of the old ILVA siderurgical plant in Genoa, Italy.
The plant once, and for many years, granted a job and a living to thousands of families coming to Genoa from all over the country; now it's gradually being dismissed.
On the other side, to raise the facility one of the most beatiful coasts of the city was destroyed back in the 20th century.
The hot section and chimney has been demolished in 2010, just a few days after this picture was taken.

I know I have shot rows of Necco wafers before. I may have even shot a whole roll.
But if I did, it didn't look as nice as this so here you go.
I got a lens llast Thursday that is part of someone elese art project. He is sending a Pentax 500mm lens to variuos photographers around the world to take a picture and then forward it. the poor guy had the misfortune to put me on the list.
It's a sharp lens and fully manual. With the adapter to Nikon F-mount is will only focus up to about four feet, but goes down fairly close.
I hope I don't destroy it at some point. That would be embarrassing. But there is not much I can do about it. With such a short focal length I really have to get in close to the target.
Cheers.

This is a vegetable garden, inspired by my personal one. A lot of people enjoy gardening and cultivate a lot of vegetables in country houses or in cities. I tried to insert all particular stuff that is needed in a good vegetable garden.
Let's see them.
CULTIVATION
There are 3 garden parcels contained in wooden walls, a simple but very effective technique. All parcels are filled by brown and soft soil.
The first parcel, starting from left, has variuos lines with broccoli and cabbages. The second one hasleeks, carrots and celeries. The third and last one is the little masterpiece of every good gardener:climbing vegetables.
There are bamboo beams that create a sort of framework where climbing plants grow by themselves or tied by the gardener. In this garden I inserted cherry tomatoes and climbing zucchini (courgette): i used Lego parts for plants and fruits, LEGO cherry for tomatoes and LEGO sausage for zucchini.
CABIN AND TOOLS
There's a cabin, a wood and brick cabin, where gardeners put all their instruments. Infact a good gardener needs a lot of tools. You can see attached to the cabin: ax, knife, hammer, shovel, hoe. The gardeners are using two different rakes.
Besides the vegetable garden needs water (see the fountain), a seedbed and a wood case to collect vegetables. About seedbed, I designed it as an huge wooden structure because it is confortable to use. In seedbed the gardeners put the seeds in order to germinate and transfer little plants in garden parcels.
The creation is made by 330 Lego parts.

The Ford D-series was a good seller in NZ and especially so in 6-wheeled format. This MkII vehicle has had "rust repars" around the cab roof area , resulting in a complete lack of guttering!
