Farm-to-Market Value Chain aims to support farm women increase their livelihoods through developing their farm businesses and grow high value crops.

How did the composition change?

The project Organic Farming, Solar Drying and Value Addition Enterprise for Women Employement and Empowerment for women in Rigoma Annah Nyatichi Onyambu has been working with women in her local area by educating them on self-reliance methods they can employ to sustain their livelihoods and take care of their families. She teaches them on how to grow vegetables and roots organically which increases their production leading to surplus.
These women don't have have a form of preservation because the are not connected to electricity which is expensive for them. This makes them to get losses due to the spoilage of the perishable fresh produce including vegetable, roots and fruits. We have been direct sun drying which is not hygienic in dehydrating the fresh produce. A solar drier which uses the sun will be the most appropriate to help the problem of fresh produce spoilage, value addition and increase the profits for the women. Setting up this solar driers will really help solve the problem of spoilage and we will end up having an empowered community with happy families.
