My central idea is value. I chose this concept, because my family is very important to me. Most people would say that they value their family and friends. But some people would say that they care for wealth, looks, religion and etc. I wanted to show that there are many things that people love if it's a good thing or a bad thing. I wanted to be more on the positive side, but I realized that not everything is all just happiness. So I changed a couple of my picture ideas and showed more of a darker side of what valuable means.

For my first photo, it shows religion or beliefs. I think that this works for my concept, because religious beliefs is something that some people put all of their time and effort in. It can affect how people live and how they act towards others and the environment.

For my second photo, I'm showing beauty. Many people around the world is insecure about how they looks, and how others see them from the outside. Makeup covers all of the physical marks on someone's face or body. Some people are consumed by makeup so much that they can't even go outside without makeup on, because they feel embarrassed or ugly.

My next photo shows the importance of pets. Pets can be very valuable to to a person or family. A pet can be like a best friend or a family member that you've never had. They comfort you and help you feel like your not alone. And when you have a pet, you create a special bond.

My fourth photo represents family. Family is one of the bigger values that people have. You can go to them when you are having a hard time, and count on them for anything. They're like your best friends and you have a lot of memorable memories together whether it's good or bad.

My last photo shows wealth. Individuals can be so focused on how much money they have, since they can buy anything that they desire. Some people would rather live with a lot of money than live with people around them. And in my photo it shows someone in a suit wearing a watch and having a lot of money. So I think that all of my photos fit for this project.

It depends on what value the leaders are driven: the value of the euro or the value of their own bank accounts?

Secretary Landgraf joined UD College of Health Sciences Dean Kathleen Matt and Dr. Ashok Subramanian, president and CEO of ER at Home, on May 24 at Wilmington Country Club for a discussion on “Healthy Transitions to Value-Based Coordinated Care in the State of Delaware.”

Secretary Landgraf made the case for change, including that the state spends 25% of its budget on health care and yet Delawareans are less healthy than people in other states. She said the number of Delawareans with three or more unhealthy behaviors – smoking, physical inactivity, excessive drinking, obesity and insufficient sleep – is at 13.6%, or about 88,000. That percentage is higher than the U.S. average. She said the goals of Delaware’s health innovation movement are for Delaware to become one of the five healthiest states, to achieve top 10% performance for patient experience, to bring spending more closely in line with growth of the economy and to achieve higher provider experience.

Dean Matt said a new and retrained health care workforce will be needed to accomplish many of the innovation goals. She said care coordinators will help consumers navigate the complex health care system and that more health professionals will need to practice to the top of their licenses. “We’ve got to get health care to the right person at the right time and in the right place.”

Dr. Subramanian, who has been an Emergency Department physician since 1998, said ER at Home, a new app, will bring clinical care and technology together in three areas: access, coordination and metrics. “Emergency departments are currently drowning,” he said, citing a federal government figure of 136 million ER visits in 2014, with an average cost of $1,316 per visit. He said many of those visits could have been handled at urgent care centers or doctor’s offices, greatly reducing wait times and costs.

ER at Home’s new mobile app called HIVE – Home-Initiated Virtual Encounter -- will be released in August, and will empower patients to access the most appropriate care through telemedicine or through advanced triage services at telehealth-integrated “Care-Ports,” urgent care, retail clinics or primary care clinics. Dr. Subramanian said three Care-Port Hubs are expected to open in Sussex County late this year.

The NHS Values Summit brings together a diverse range of people and perspectives to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.

It challenges and inspires people to think about the role of ethical leadership in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities, staff and patients and how the NHS can increase the social value of its activities.

Welcoming representatives from health and social care, alongside more than 20 partners from the voluntary and community sector, this event (in Leeds, Yorkshire) was a template for future NHS Values Summits, which will be held twice a year in different locations across the country. Each event will explore a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights. The next gathering will take place in May 2013.

Serve these gorgeous stuffed mushrooms at your next party. They're an easy crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

1 sprays olive oil cooking spray

1 pound button mushrooms, about 24 large mushrooms

1 tsp olive oil

1/4 cup onion(s), chopped

1/4 cup sweet red pepper(s), chopped

10 oz chopped frozen spinach, thawed and drained

2 1/2 slice whole-wheat bread, chopped into bread crumbs

1 tsp Creole seasoning, or Cajun seasoning

1/4 tsp ground turmeric

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a jelly roll pan with cooking spray.

Remove mushroom stems from caps and finely chop stems; reserve caps and set aside.

Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat. Sauté mushroom stems, onion, pepper and spinach until tender, about 5 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and stir in remaining ingredients until well-combined.

Stuff each mushroom cap with 2 tablespoons of filling mixture. Place mushrooms, stuffed sides up, on jellyroll pan. Bake, uncovered, 15 minutes; serve warm. Yields 2 mushrooms per serving. (Note: The mushrooms can be stuffed in advance, covered, refrigerated and then baked later in the day to save on last minute preparation time.)
