UMass Boston senior Steven Nye took this picture during the EEOS 203 class' fall trip to Cape Cod. Nye says in this photo, the students had dug a half-meter trench in the beach at the base of an erosional scarp to analyzing the recent storm events and short-term changes in the coastal environment.
It took me too long to figure out that the throttle for the water flow is hidden underneath the temperature control.

Carnaval de Québec Canada
The Quebec Winter Carnival or the Carnaval de Québec is a festival held in Quebec City.
After being held on and off since 1894, the Carnaval de Québec has been held uninterruptedly since 1955. That year Bonhomme, the mascot of the festival, made his first appearance. Bonhomme – short for bonhomme de neige ("snowman") is the official ambassador of the festivities, the castle lord of the Ice Palace. Bonhomme is a large snowman sporting a red cap, black buttons and a ceinture fléchée (colorful sash).
Up to one million people attended the Carnaval de Québec in 2006 making it one of the largest winter festivals in the world.

About the trip:
Montreal - Quebec
In the morning the bus tour will journey to Quebec City for the Quebec Winter Carnival. Enjoy ice sculpturing exhibitions from different countries and you will experience a distinctive beauty of winter. We will then visit Hotel de Glace to explore the world of Eskimos.
Quebec Winter Carnival Each year at the end of January, this festival celebrates French Canadian culture. There are a wealth of fun activities to enjoy, like parades, sleigh and canoe races, a snow sculpture contest, and a masquerade ball.
Ice Hotel The Hotel de Glace just outside Quebec City is the only Ice Hotel in North America. This amazing architectural achievement is reconstructed every winter entirely out snow and ice. There is even an ice chapel in which weddings are hosted.

After being surprised by the kitchen stove with the "chicken nugget" button, I'm pretty impressed by the Breville toaster with this "a bit more" option.

Another shot courtesy of Flickr user m20wc51, photographer unknown, but likely a US service person stationed in Korea. In the background, the official ceremony, and in the foreground, various snacks and foods on sale for spectators and participants.
Original shot can be found here, for purposes of comparison. This shot was relatively clean and the colour in reasonable shape. I've straightened the shot as much as I can without cropping away too much.
