Although certainly used as one of the barracks, I think this might be a cottage predating them. I remember, not so very long ago, when it had a roof, there was a painted, black skirting board around the main room.

The Outer Garden

thegaien.blogspot.com/2024/04/to-find-solace-in-moonopen-...

The motif of the new garden is the Noh play "Hagoromo."

Noh is one of Japan’s traditional types of theater with more than 600 years of history.

In the story, a fisherman named Hakuryō finds a celestial robe (hagoromo) on the shore. He intends to keep it as a family heirloom, but the celestial maiden laments her inability to return to the celestial realm without her robe. Moved by her sorrow, Hakuryō sympathizes and agrees to return the robe in exchange for witnessing her celestial dance. Although the celestial maiden initially hesitates, fearing Hakuryō's doubt, she eventually returns to the heavens after performing her graceful dance, leaving behind blessings upon the land.

The garden's design draws inspiration from traditional Japanese paintings, aiming to represent two-dimensional elements in a three-dimensional space. It features representations of white clouds and waves, symbolizing the celestial realm and the waterside, respectively.

As I repeatedly reconstruct the garden to align with my vision, I sometimes doubt whether it truly conveys the warmth I intend. In moments of uncertainty, I find solace in the unwavering support and trust of AKI69, whose presence has been instrumental in the realization of this project. The beauty of the architecture, plants, and creatures within the garden constantly inspires and encourages me.

May this new garden become a testament to beauty, enriching your soul with its presence.

Looking forward to the enchanting presence of celestial beings in this garden where the worlds of the sea and sky intertwine without doubt.

It was the 14th day of continuous, round-the-clock, still peaceful protest demanding the resignation of the government, but the authorities were already preparing to use force and destroy the Maidan. Everyone began to talk about the arrival of a special unit from Russia in Kyiv. Tension grew with each passing day. Opposition parties held fruitless negotiations with Yanukovych.

Northern Pacific RR Station 1909 No Longer In Use

Bozeman, Montana

The Wind Blows on an Overcast Day

As waves rush to the shore, one after another

All the while, tree sentinels stand ready

Watching silently as the people go by

Are they seemingly oblivious or perhaps lost in thought

But there is now a chill in the air

A sense a change coming

Autumn, you might say

Evergreens will remain true to their green

While others are contemplating a change

As another season comes and goes

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in Voyageurs National Park while standing on the shores of Kabetogama Lake. The setting is extending to the west to a nearby lake island that mainly has evergreens. My thought in composing this image had been to zoom in with the focal length and have the island fill the image while including some waters leading up to it, as well as using the overcast skies as a backdrop. Basically, centering this island with a “voyageurs” setting around it.

Used to be bright white

Used pen and ink brush over a photo, then filled in the color. Not much to see, but fun to do at the time.

Used my phone.

Not really my style, but I liked the colors, looked pretty fresh :)

I decided to leave the garbage as is ... as it shows the contrast of what was and is.

The moral decay in humanity. To defile such a beautiful place with litter and not care for life is what humanity seems to excel in lately. It is what it is, I clean up as much as I can when I walk around lately.

I see a young generation whining over the environment yet they can't clean their litter nor stop consuming. Slaves to desire and a system that does not care for them and most of all to their own lust and ego.

We used to build and work hard... you have a wonderful oppertunity to make life great on this planet I would like to tell this generation. If only you could see what consumption slaves you are and that your freedom lies in the letting go of all this attachment to the commercial bullshit they tell you to care about.

All your ideals are made up by those who wish to control you, only you can set yourself free....

Griffon vultures have been used as model organisms for the study of soaring and thermoregulation. The energy costs of level flight tend to be high, prompting alternatives to flapping in larger birds. Vultures in particular utilize more efficient flying methods such as soaring. Compared to other birds, which elevate their metabolic rate to upwards of 16 times their basal metabolic rate in flight, soaring griffon vultures expend about 1.43 times their basal metabolic rate in flight. Griffon vultures are also efficient flyers in their ability to return to a resting heart rate after flight within ten minutes.

As large scavengers, griffon vultures have not been observed to seek shelter for thermoregulation. Vultures use their bald heads as a means to thermoregulate in both extreme cold and hot temperatures. Changes in posture can increase bare skin exposure from 7% to 32%. This change allows for the more than doubling of convective heat loss in still air. Griffon vultures have also been found to tolerate increased body temperatures as a response to high ambient temperatures. By allowing their internal body temperature to change independently of their metabolic rate, griffon vultures minimize their loss of water and energy in thermoregulating. One study in particular (Bahat 1995) found that these adaptations have allowed the Griffon vulture to have one of the widest thermal neutral zones of any bird.

It declined markedly throughout the 19th–20th centuries in much of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, mainly due to direct persecution and "bycatch" from the poisoned carcasses set for livestock predators (Snow and Perrins 1998, Ferguson-Lees and Christie 2001, Orta et al. 2015). In some areas a reduction in available food supplies, arising from changes in livestock management practices, also had an impact (Ferguson-Lees and Christie 2001, Orta et al. 2015). It is very highly vulnerable to the effects of potential wind energy development (Strix 2012) and electrocution has been identified as a threat (Global Raptors Information Network 2015). Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used for veterinary purposes pose a threat to this species. One case of suspected poisoning caused by flunixin, an NSAID, was recorded in this species in 2012 in Spain (Zorrilla et al. 2015). Diclofenac, a similar NSAID, has caused severe declines in Gyps vulture species across Asia.

This poor old building used to have another sign behind this one. The building caught fire and the back wall has collapsed. There is no roof and I doubt any floors. Salt Lake Chocolates are still in business as far as I know. This sign will be gone sooner than later. Glad I caught it.

Using this photo from my photoshoot today for the project b/c I really, really like this photo.

Her outfit here is inspired by the Ellen Page's outfits in the movie "Juno". ^_^ Such a good movie! I know this isn't really like anything in particular from the movie, but I really like this style. Juno was so awesome.

And buy the soundtrack if you get the chance. Very much worth it.

This is called 'The Fountain Of Wealth'. When I was setting up for this shot, there were suddenly 15 kids jumping between the lit waterjets. Inside I was yelling, nooooo, please, it's not the moment. I had to take about 20 pics to blend the different parts together. It has been a hell of a job, removing the kids and matching the shifting colors of the jets.

Ironing is the use of a machine, usually a heated tool (an iron), to remove wrinkles from fabric. The heating is commonly done to a temperature of 180–220 °Celsius (356-428 Fahrenheit), depending on the fabric. Ironing works by loosening the bonds between the long-chain polymer molecules in the fibres of the material. While the molecules are hot, the fibres are straightened by the weight of the iron, and they hold their new shape as they cool. Some fabrics, such as cotton, require the addition of water to loosen the intermolecular bonds. Many modern fabrics (developed in or after the mid-twentieth century) are advertised as needing little or no ironing. Permanent press clothing was developed to reduce the ironing necessary by combining wrinkle-resistant polyester with cotton.

The first known use of heated metal to "iron" clothes is known to have occurred in China. The electric iron was invented in 1882, by Henry W. Seeley.

The people of Upper Egypt continue to use the traditional "leg-ironers," amid concerns that the profession will become extinct with many Egyptian households owning a steam iron. But for now, the rural residents of Upper Egypt still take their clothes, especially woollen Saidi jilbabs (long and loose-fitting garments, also known as abbayas) and fabrics, to the leg-ironers, who have been passed down the skill from generation to generation.

With leg-ironing, the hand controls the iron and the leg moves it. This gives maximum pressure on the clothes and therefore the result is a well-ironed piece of fabric compared to the steam irons used in households and dry-cleaning and ironing stores.

The leg-iron is made of pure iron and weighs around 50 pounds. It takes longer than the steam iron but does not cool down as quickly. “The iron is heated over a fire for roughly 15 minutes and can iron three jilbabs before it needs to be reheated.

An iron is heated in what is known in Egypt as a “babur gaz,” or kerosene stove, which is the old method of heating that later developed into modern gas ranges. Babur gaz units are still used in the rural areas and villages to heat food and make tea.

Since I started to use vintage film cameras something changed in me. The more I dive into photography, the more clearly I feel that the photography is about moments and light, not technologies...
