Urostomy is a procedure that makes your #urinary system dependent on a pouch that you need to carry with you almost the entire time. If you want to know about your #urostomy, you are going to have to know about urinary system in general.

Some facts about urinary system

Urinary system starts with the kidneys which are located just above the waistline. Two narrow tubes, called ureters, run from the kidneys into the bladder. These tubes transport liquid waste or urine into the bladder.

The flow of urine from kidneys to bladder is pretty consistent. A sphincter muscle allows the bladder to be completely filled with urine until you feel the need to #urinate. While urinating, the sphincter muscle relaxes to allow the urine to flow out of the body through the tube which is called urethra.

What is urostomy?

The surgically created opening that is designed to drain the urine out of the body is known as urostomy. This ostomy is also known as ileal conduit stoma or urinary diversion. A few things that you need to know about urostomy are as under.

•The main purpose of urostomy is to allow the urine to flow out of the body after the bladder is removed or bypassed.

•After urostomy, your urethra is not going to be used for urine excretion. Instead, it is going to be eliminated through urostomy.

•Without a sphincter muscle in the stoma, you are not going to be able to voluntarily control the excretion of your urine. And that’s where you are going to have to wear a pouch to collect your urine.

Types of urostomies

Urostomy can be created through different methods. The most common method is called an ileal conduit. The basics of this procedure are as under.

•A small portion of your small intestine (ileum) is removed surgically. This part is then used for the flowing out of urine.

•Intestine is then reconnected to allow it to perform its normal function.

•One end of the conduit is then closed by surgeon and ureters are inserted in it.

•Open end of the conduit goes through the abdominal wall. That serves as the exit point for the urine. The opening appearing on the outside of the abdominal wall is known as stoma.

Another type of ostomy is known as colostomy which is used for the removal of stool. This procedure is done to bypass the part of colon that is used for the stool to be given a way out of the body.

The Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), exterminated with prejudice by city dwelling lawn purists and praised by foragers and wildlife. It’s a very common wildflower that is edible in its entirety and whose leaves are known as the arugula of the north.

Ranging from a refreshing salad, to medicinal uses for improving many digestive and urinary tract issues, it can be taken raw, cooked, and steeped as a tea. The leaves contain more vitamin E, protein, calcium, and iron, and half the sugars than arugula. The flowers contain anti-oxidants and give a sweeter contrast to the slightly bitter leaves. The roots are usually used for tea.

Ideally it is picked in more shady areas as exposure to sunlight turns its components bitter. When camping in more remote areas it makes for a great salad on its own or in addition to other ingredients. The flowers make for a tasty, easy to pick snack while hiking.

Today for lunch I’m slowly clearing my yard of them by making a salad using the leaves as well as mature and unopened flowers. Combined with spinach, green onion, cucumber, pickled beets, marinated mushrooms, and some goat cheese with cranberries, drizzled with some chili and chipotle infused olive oil. Tasty and a great variety of flavours and textures.

Obviously not recommended for picking close to inhabited areas due to risk of pesticides, pollution and animal excrement.

Saw Palmetto is a very hard berry. I've used it in its unbroken form and still found it effective, but these have already been cracked, so it's much easier to get the goodies out of them. Traditionally used by North American natives for many different ailments, Saw Palmetto is currently one of the essential natural phyto-hormones for both men and women. Women can use the herb to increase breast size and other attributes in all the right areas, and men consider the herb a miracle for prostate and urinary problems, as well as hair loss.

The giant anteater forages in open areas and rests in more forested habitats. It has poor eyesight, but its sense of smell is 40 times more sensitive than that of humans.

It feeds primarily on ants and termites, using its fore claws to dig them up and its long, sticky tongue to collect them. It has no teeth and is capable of very limited jaw movement, relying on the rotation of the two halves of its lower jaw, held together by a ligament at the tip, to open and close its mouth. The tongue is typically 60 cm (24 in) long, covered in backward-curving papillae and coated in thick, sticky saliva secreted from its enlarged salivary glands, which allows the giant anteater to collect insects with it.

During feeding, the tongue moves in and out around 160 times per minute When fully extended, the tongue can reach 45 cm (18 in), longer than the length of the skull. Anteaters track prey by their scent. After finding a nest, the animal tears it open with its long fore claws and inserts its tongue to collect its prey. An anteater spends one minute on average feeding at a nest, visiting up to 200 nests in one day and consuming as many as 30,000 insects. The anteater may be driven away from a nest by the chemical or biting attacks of soldier ants. Some termite species rely on their fortified mounds for protection and many individuals escape while the predator digs which prevents the entire colony from being eaten in one anteater attack.

Though giant anteaters live in overlapping home ranges, they are mostly solitary except during mother-offspring relationships, aggressive interactions between males, and when mating. Mother anteaters carry their offspring on their backs until weaning them. While adult males are slightly larger and more muscular than females, with wider heads and necks, visual sex determination can be difficult. The penis and testes are located internally between the rectum and urinary bladder in males, and females have a single pair of mammary glands near the armpits.

The giant anteater is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and is virtually extinct in parts of its former range, including nearly all of Central America. Wikipedia
