Just a quick update about Protons because I know you all care...
Last Tuesday (10 Nov.) I returned to the feral colony with a cat carrier and called for Proton, who showed up in a few seconds. I picked her up, put her in the carrier and whisked her home.
There she spent the night in a large dog training crate and on the next morning she visited our usual vet for consultation and testing in advance of being 'fixed'.
She was the perfect little lady. Well behaved for the vet and vet techs. No fuss. No fighting. Incredible for a cat born in the woods and having lived there for the past year.
Clear of feline AIDS and leukemia, she was scheduled for surgery the next morning and spent the night at the vet.
Oh...she is also a he.
Yep. Proton is a boy! The vet conceded his testes would have been difficult to see as they were petite (like him).
He came home Thursday afternoon and has been recuperating with us. He is, at this very moment, laying quietly in his dog-training cage here in the t.v. room.
He's a super fellow and will make a fantastic little cat for some lucky family.
I will miss him terribly.

Photo taken today before she went in. Thought it might be her last one with me.
Cali is home. Disoriented and groggy but eating and drinking. She appears to have lost weight. She is down from 270g and is back to 230g. AS soon as I picked her up she felt back to normal. I know her liver is still big but something has changed. Possibly the weight gain was more of fluid build-up than liver size. Waiting on results. If it's a tumor its possible to give steroids to slow the growth and reduce inflammation to take the liver out of immediate danger. I am inclined to take that option if she continues to do well as she has not been sick with this, apart from the weight she has been bright, active, diet good. If we can eliminate the danger of the liver rupturing then I am happy to see how she goes. As long as she doesnt not appear in pain and is enjoying life we'll see. But this is still all results pending.
The whole procedure and sending of results, (and post op check on friday) would have cost me £364 but my vet capped the costs at £300 for me.
