Matilija Poppy has been called the "Queen of California Flowers". Unique and distinct, it is one of the most recognized and beloved of California’s native plants. The large white blooms are the size of a saucer. The petals look like wrinkled crepe paper, the center is a bright yellow disk. Some have likened the flower to the appearance of a fried egg. A solitary bloom is a very fine thing, but a large stand of Matilija in full bloom is a sight to behold! Hundreds of huge white flowers borne at eye-level on long straight stems, contrasted by attractive blue-green foliage… a real show stopper in late spring/early summer!
Thanks to everyone for stopping by to view, fave, and comment!!

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to remember to catch the light by looking up more often. In doing so, I caught some morning light behind two rather large oak leaves which pleased my eye. I hope you don't get sick of viewing fall leaves, because I have a "thing" for them!
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your comments. I do love hearing from you! Have a marvelous day!

I was taking a photo of the fabulous scenery surrounding Civita di Bagnoregio when out of nowhere a cat shot up the wall.

Now that we are in standard time, I needed to get up an hour earlier than last week to catch the sunrrise. On this chily morning (low 50F), there was not a single cloud or a shroud of fog to make the morning photo interesting. Had to resort back to this dead tree which was photographed back in March. You can see the sun rose over the same position, but the skies are quite different.
Little orange butterfly - probably a Lycaena ottomanus, but I am not sure.

CN's tri-weekly local from Champion, MI to Partridge turns east off LSI trackage onto the CN running its final mile to the yard. In Partridge, they will exchange cars with another local and head back west to Champion to tie up for the night.

...impromptu meet with Nikki at Chautauqua Park...the girls in place for their group shot! We had a great time, and it was a gorgeous day! Hot in the sun, cool in the shade! :D

As a child, I was very comfortable picking up worms and frogs I'd find before gently replacing them on the ground. I'm assuming my fear of spiders was something I learned from the grown-ups in my life. For something that small to make an adult shriek and run in terror must mean that spiders were dangerous. This learned fear gradually changed over time....and now I find that spiders are some of my favorite macrophotography friends. It is good to make new friends!

I know it’s not showing their faces - I found it amusing though. Maybe they were looking down at the wheels?
