As we came near this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias ) did a vertical take off, up and over the fence and away. Amazing! Happy Fence Friday
Union Pacific SD40-2 3445 leads an APL stack train east on the Portland Subdivision along the Columbia River and across the mouth of the John Day River east of Rufus, Oregon with the John Day Dam in the distance below Mt. Hood on August 3, 1989.
I've been crawling around on the damp, dewy ground again. Seems to be a thing of late, probably because the weather has taken a turn for the frosty. It's winter here now, but actually we're having some nice days still. Not for long I'm sure, as we head towards our shortest day of the year.
Under muddled skies, a pair of sharp CSX EMDs lead L423-19 onto double track at SW Cabin with a healthy train of Lima traffic for Cincinnati.

An immature male Northern Harrier taking off after just having made a kill (vole in talons). I was fortunate to have the opportunity to watch the entire hunting sequence that let up to this shot. It lasted about two minutes with the harrier about six feet off the ground following the vole. It was a precision strike...silent and deadly. Please view large for best experience.
Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of the weekend ~!
One type of Agave plant grows into a neighboring blue agave to create a flash of yellow in a seal of teal.

Just because I like the various grains and colors in the wood panels used to board up this window.
From my Wild and Weathered Wood collection.
Alviso, California.
I love to sit on a meadow and look around to find out who is nearby and possibly watching me. In this case it was a four-spotted chaser, the second one I have seen this year. This one was a female but that is something you can only tell if you look at the colour of the body.
Brown Hares squaring up. One blended from my archives. This is two images of the same hare, one flipped horizontally and blended together.
A juvenile Green Heron displays perfect form as it flies past in front of the photographer. I especially like how the bird's two legs are almost perfectly aligned in this moment, making only the near leg visible. Just a glimpse of the hidden leg's backside claw is visible on the zoomed-in view.

Elevador da Lavra, Lisbon, Portugal
It opened in 1884 and it's still going up and down one of Lisbon's seven hills...
This mockingbird was at the top of an Electric Pole singing. Every couple minutes it would fly up a few feet and then resume it's position.
Sunny summer day. It's a sad story and definitely not one I like. But it's real and I only took the picture. Hornet and dragonfly.
So Conachcriag on the right is our target for today, while centre picture we can see the snowy summit of Lochnagar. The Glen between all three is where we're heading initially before making a right to start the climb up the slopes of Conachcraig.
Conachcraig is a Corbett standing at 865 meters (2837 feet). A Corbett is a Scottish mountain between 2500 and 3000 feet high, with at least 500 feet of descent on all sides.
Birds puff up their feathers to trap heat next to their body, or to dry out after a bath. They also fluff up their feathers when they are stressed or sick. Or while they are preening. And males may fluff up a bit when they are doing their courtship dancing...This one was seen Early morning on a TV Aerial ..
Recently was able to explore the Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA. Here's another shot of the exterior: flic.kr/p/2rRCsgu . So many amazing, unique views and perspectives including this vanishing point "looking up" angle. Then decided to jazz it up a bit with just a touch of the "blues". Not sure what the name of the building is, that can be seen through the glass in this pathway that I was walking through on the 5th floor. This was a magical experience, highly recommend taking it in.
Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to remember to catch the light by looking up more often. In doing so, I caught some morning light behind two rather large oak leaves which pleased my eye. I hope you don't get sick of viewing fall leaves, because I have a "thing" for them!
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your comments. I do love hearing from you! Have a marvelous day!

This is another shot I took yesterday during our walk, where the sun came through for a few minutes. I hope you like it!
