A Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica) close up portrait against a butter smooth backdrop on yellowish green is really the composition to cherish. For a moment it sat on a bamboo twig thinking about its future moves in a delightful posture. Pics was taken from Purbasthali Wetland, West Bengal, India.

Happy-Saturday-Shot !

As we came near this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias ) did a vertical take off, up and over the fence and away. Amazing! Happy Fence Friday

Union Pacific SD40-2 3445 leads an APL stack train east on the Portland Subdivision along the Columbia River and across the mouth of the John Day River east of Rufus, Oregon with the John Day Dam in the distance below Mt. Hood on August 3, 1989.

This Grote's Buck Moth caterpillar was crossing over our welcome mat. Zoom in and see the incredible details on the skin, besides all the spikey hairs.

An immature male Northern Harrier taking off after just having made a kill (vole in talons). I was fortunate to have the opportunity to watch the entire hunting sequence that let up to this shot. It lasted about two minutes with the harrier about six feet off the ground following the vole. It was a precision strike...silent and deadly. Please view large for best experience.

Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of the weekend ~!

Under muddled skies, a pair of sharp CSX EMDs lead L423-19 onto double track at SW Cabin with a healthy train of Lima traffic for Cincinnati.

Just because I like the various grains and colors in the wood panels used to board up this window.

A juvenile Green Heron displays perfect form as it flies past in front of the photographer. I especially like how the bird's two legs are almost perfectly aligned in this moment, making only the near leg visible. Just a glimpse of the hidden leg's backside claw is visible on the zoomed-in view.

I love to sit on a meadow and look around to find out who is nearby and possibly watching me. In this case it was a four-spotted chaser, the second one I have seen this year. This one was a female but that is something you can only tell if you look at the colour of the body.

This mockingbird was at the top of an Electric Pole singing. Every couple minutes it would fly up a few feet and then resume it's position.

Lilies in close up, macro, bokeh.

Looking downstream toward the Black Creek bridge. Finally the weather in southeast Georgia cooled off a bit after weeks with temperatures in the upper 90's. Clouds were rolling in and there was thunder off in the distance but I had just enough time to snap a few shots before I had to head back to my truck.

Just after the UP merged with CNW. At least the Union Pacific had some interesting power leading this empty coal train.

Up and over the dune. A cut through the dune to allow access to the beach from the village and vice versa.

Birds puff up their feathers to trap heat next to their body, or to dry out after a bath. They also fluff up their feathers when they are stressed or sick. Or while they are preening. And males may fluff up a bit when they are doing their courtship dancing...This one was seen Early morning on a TV Aerial ..

Eastern-tailed Blue butterfly taking nectar from a White Clover floret in deep grass.

As I understand things, the eye-spots and tail-like appendages are designed to mimic the insect's head. All in the hope that a predator attack there and saving the life of the butterfly. Seems to work. I've encountered specimens with that part of their wing clipped by what appears to be a bird's beak.

Common though not abundant, this year.

A photograph of some steps in Rome nearing dawn. While in Rome we went up and down so many steps.
