IDIA has been commissioned to design and build a virtual presence and artworks for the upcoming Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. The physical Museum in East Lansing Michigan, designed by architect Zaha Hadid, is slated to finish construction in Fall 2012. Museum Director, Michael Rush commissioned Fillwalk and the IDIA to envision and create a dynamic program of artworks for the Virtual Broad Art Museum project (VBAM). Fillwalk’s works in collaboration with IDIA designers will be exhibited in the inaugural premiere of the projecton March 15th, 2012. Fillwalk and IDIA were invited by guest curator Adam Brown, MSU to work with the Broad Museum to design the virtual facility and artworks. IDIA is developing the project in the game engine of Unity 3D, which allows for the virtual artworks to be experienced entirely within a web browser.
“Engaging visitors with innovators at the leading edge of art and technology, both here at MSU and around the globe, is key to the Broad Art Museum’s mission,” said founding director Michael Rush. “With the Virtual Broad Art Museum, we have an opportunity to embrace the tremendous creative and connective possibilities that exist in the digital world.”
The mixed world reception will take place on Thursday, March 15th 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm EST simultaneously on the campus of Michigan State University and in the VBAM virtual worlds.

A friend just sent me this when I asked for a cheaper alternative to
TorquePowered. What I wanted was a game engine that my teen could play
with. He is, well, pretty addicted to videogames. I thought if he
could start developing game (or manga or anime) version of his
schoolwork, maybe he could demonstrate comprehension in a way that
would mean something to him. I know, these ideas don't always work,
but nothing to lose by trying.
I had heard about Atmosphir from Kevin Jarrett.
Let students design their own video games with Atmosphir!:

I hoped that would do the trick, but the games seemed, to my teen, a
little too much for kids. He wanted something more grown up and
sophisticated. I heard about Torque, but whoa! I am not going to
invest that kind of money (shall we say hundreds?) when I'm not sure
it will do what I hope, and it seems to require a fair amount of
training to get things going.
Voila, Unity! First off, it is FREE!!!, so you can't beat the price.
Everything I've read about it says it is easier to use than Torque.
Even better, when I checked out the web page, a screenshot flashed by
that is a game my son has played and recognized. That made everyone
happier right away.
Then I saw this screen of using Unity for iPhone development! OK, now
I am getting stars in my eyes. There is increasing interest in serious
games in healthcare, and also in mobile apps. Put the two together,
and you hit a sweet spot. I might need to figure this out myself ...

Richard is very interested in "Immersive Intelligence." Here's how he describes it:
Immersive Intelligence is a collaborative data-driven decision process for understanding complex systems using immersive spaces. Immersive spaces are virtual environments whose objects are created from and sync with a rich dynamic database, allowing persons to experience immersion within a data world ranging from the natural and familiar to the abstract and unusual.
