UNITY CHAPEL (1886), Spring Green, WI. The Lloyd Jones family immigrated from Wales in the 1840’s to escape persecution in the UK. They hired the Chicago architect Joseph L. Silsbee to design the “cottage church”. Frank Lloyd Wright, working for Silsbee, was assigned to supervise the interior, although it is speculated that his involvement may have been greater. He was accredited as the draftsman and the construction supervisor for Silsbee. Wright was greatly disappointed that his uncle, Lloyd Jones, did not allow him to design what would have been his first project. Wright (1867 - 1959) was 19.

After a long photowalk I went to a nearby stall which was run by this man Mr.Halim & his mother. Amongst all the people I shot today he was the most estatic. He even gave suggestions of where I should shoot his portrait. :-D

13-12-17 Unity Hall Restoration.
The main hallway leading to the ballroom staircase. Note some of theceiling has been removed giving a clear view up to the second floor. And on the left, a very old window for Wakefield Industrial Society has been revealed.
On this image, the sense of unity it is present when the roof is the first thing noticeable and not each of its divisions. Each part of the glass and structure work together in a cohesive relationship, producing feelings of completeness and order.
14-02-04 Unity Hall, Wakefield restoration project. Some of the large open spaces are being split into smaller offices / workshops spaces. Note the stained glass / wood panelling that has been rescued from elsewhere in the building, meaning Unity’s workspaces will be far from run-of-the-mill.
Taken the day of the Harbour Festival, i've recently taken to parking on Gardener Haskins rather than the Cabot Circus car park and its a more interesting walk into town. I don't know a great deal about the history of this area, it's very close to the city centre and there's a lot of old derelict factories. I can only imagine that when the inner city ring road was built it completely drained any life left out of this area.
To think that Unity Church's Tower was an imposing element on the
landscape....now it is being devoured by Paramount Bay.
On May 1, 2009 Dawn and I celebrated 10 wonderful yeas of marriage. We re-lit the unity candle from our wedding in our family room. I stared at it in awe and humility of its translucent beauty and what it represents in our lives. We are one with each other, but also one with our creator as we continue to grow in our spiritual journey.
The only prayer I can offer as I look at it is a plea for many more years like the last 10. What a remarkable journey.
Unity Temple, 1905-1908, Frank Lloyd Wright, 875 Lake St.
One of the most important Wright's building in the beginning of the 20th century. Many people think it's the first modern building. Concrete only. Double core: the taller side is the Temple, and the shorter side is the House. No window at the street side. Lighting mostly from roof windows with yellow and green stained glass.
Wright said when he designed this building, for the first time he realized that the true soul of a building is not wall but space.
