I added this to literary groups because this was on a doorway to an alley in Mount Pleasant, MIchigan and it reminded me of the magic door in Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse.

I was informed by someone called The Doctor on my Ubuntu article at DanLynch.org that Unity is just a Compiz plugin and you can disable it. Here's what happens when you do. You lose the top toolbar and all the main functionality. I assume you could add a Gnome panel back if you wanted. Why you would do this I'm not sure. I was just experimenting. Unity Day activities included displays, demonstrations, artifacts and food sampling from different groups in 21 ethnic or cultural booths.

We made a White Russian for our unity cocktail. The three ingredients each represented different aspects of our relationship which, once combined, could never be separated.

A moment of reflection as they lit the unity candle. Unfortunately since I was part of the wedding and could not handle the position of my camera, I was only able to capture the bride.

A bit ironic. They sing unity after unifying. Jesse Michaels (of Operation Ivy) joined his former band members to sing Unity. Vic, who was standing right behind me said, "Wow, you don't see that every day." It was a special night.

Saturday morning we took the Queen City Underground Tour in Over-The-Rhine, and walked up Vine Street to several sites.

The IMAGINE PEACE AND UNITY Archway in Imagination Alley is a project of The Over-the-Rhine Community Art Project, a collaborative effort by the Art Academy of Cincinnati and Peaslee Neighborhood Center.

The 16 ft high, 18 ton concrete structure has mosaic panels created by children and adults at Washington Park School, St. Francis Seraph, Lighthouse Community Services, the Drop-Inn Center, Peaslee Neighborhood Center and more.

The structure was built by local artist, Greg Schmidt. Mosaic panels were created at the Miami University Center for Community Engagement. The unveiling and dedication ceremony took place on October 2, 2004 at 1317 Vine Street.

The archway frames the entrance to Imagination Alley, a small pocket park owned by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission and located in the 1300 block of Vine Street. Large mosaic panels (based on designs by children at Memorial Community Center) were installed a few years ago.

Suzanne Fisher used residents’ images and ideas in the final design of the arch top. Funding came from the Fine Arts Fund and the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
