Hyper Japan isn't strictly a food and drink festival, but Tasting Britain keeps getting reinvited due to all the delicious food and drink on offer. Also we seem to be getting all âculturalâ these days. Anyway, for those who don't know stuff about Hyper Japan, it's probably the UK's biggest Japanese culture festival. Three days of anime, J-Pop gigs, sake tastings, people dressed as Naruto, video gaming, martial arts demos, sushi and me and my friends (which is not actually an âattraction' but I'd like to think we're attractive anyway).
Hyper Japan started in 2012, and by its own description is 'curated by local Japanese people, with the intent of introducing the âeclecticâ Japan to the UK'. As of this year (I think), has been held at the O2 Arena in Canary Wharf. However, what youâre looking at here, Hyper Japanâs Christmas Market, is a little different. Christmas themed, for a start - visitors are invited to âenjoy a Tokyo shopping experienceâ - and it really is more retail oriented. The atmosphere is vibrant, the weather is cold, the people are kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiii and the atmosphere isâ¦atmospheric (*dramatic music*).
Highlights from the event this year included a Kawaiicore band (this exists) called Lady Baby making their European debut. And The Eat-Japan Sushi Awards 2015 - supposedly the longest running sushi competition. This competition sees five sushi chefs (each repping their respective restaurant) taste testing various unique sushi creations on a willing (600 strong) audience, and whoever wins the popular vote wins the competition. 2013âs Sushi Awards winner, Yoshihiro Motohashi, was running the show at this yearâs Sushi Bar - serving up his award winning âHyper Rollâ (oh baby wanna see my Hyper Roll?). This yearâs winner? Henryanto Aloysius of Genji - and his 'Spicy Crunch sushi'.
Also good to see: interactive demonstrations and workshops such as Ippudo's ramen cooking session. And I must also mention the inaugural Sake Cocktail Awards (which you can see some pictures of the heats for). We got to try some of
Marco Rosina of Chotto Matteâs Chotto Jelly cocktail (Saturday), Marie Ariga (of Wazen)âs âOne Piece' and a third one, (a name I did not get! Turns out Marco won that round but I honestly believe the aforementioned third one was the true winner here (just take my word for it - thatâs the one with the guy pouring what looks like yoghurtâ¦. delicious yoghurt). All in all, Japanese culture is alternatively baffling, fun and amazing - and the Eat Japan food court never fails to deliver (on variety in the very least!). We will most certainly be back - arigato...
Sandringham Flower Show is one of the most prestigious horticultural events in the East of England. Now in its 130th year, it is much more than just a Flower Show. It is a unique event offering not only the best in horticulture but also an excellent day out, filled with family entertainment.
Set in the magnificent surroundings of Sandringham Park with Sandringham House and Sandringham Church as a backdrop, this one-day Show attracts around 20,000 visitors each year. From the beginning the Show has been privileged to enjoy Royal patronage and traditionally our Royal Patron attends the Show.
Many of the region’s leading nurseries and horticultural specialists exhibit. In addition to these displays the show features display gardens by leading designers, around 200 trade stands (both horticultural and general), a craft marquee, main arena events, children's entertainment and a military band.
The Royal marquees contain the competitions in vegetables, fruit, flowers and floral art, with the entries grown by local residents; there are also some open classes which anyone may enter. In the amateur’s marquee, local gardening and horticultural clubs enter a judged display competition, whilst the Horticultural Trades marquee features displays by leading nurseries.
The display gardens are always a very popular attraction at Sandringham Flower Show, built as they are to a standard which can rival any of the major horticultural shows.
The Gardeners’ Forum is the venue for gardening talks by top television gardeners.
The profits from each show are donated to local charities and since 1977 the Show Committee have donated more than £450,000 to local charities.
Admission charges include entrance to Sandringham Gardens, Museum and Church, all of which border the showground.

This image represents something unique, because even though the piece of ice may seem similar to the stuff that is on the ground, it is different. It is unique in that it is pure and clean, unlike the dirty snow that is on the ground in front of it. There really isn't any symmetry in this photo, adding to the "unique" idea of it. The subject is also slightly off to the side, and isn't perfectly centered. The most prominent compositional technique is Rule of Thirds.

They say "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder"... We humans see a lot of things around us.. Quite often we ignore them too... In search of things that glitter, we often tend to forget things that gives us joy, things which can make our day brighter....
I saw a uniqueness in this flower..A pride and a sense of self confidence to stand up against all odds... Proving that there is more to beauty than what is seen... Inner beauty that breaks all known barriers..
This to me was an image that signifies self esteem, courage and beauty together....
