My friend from yesterday suddenly deciding he had enough and, as clearly evident from the photo, startled me in this action. A bad photo, I pondered whether to discard it but played with it a while as best I could and decided to keep it...if for no other reason than the memory. I would have "painted" it but my free processing sites have suddenly decided to ask for money for the privilege as they all eventually do. Actually, it looks a bit like "painting" anyway.
There are a couple of nice points...particularly around the feet where the water spray is nicely expressed. Larger shows it better.
I found a nice place with lots of small birds.
but they suddenly disappeared.i didn't understand why.
later I looked up and saw that I had an unexpected companion.
like me he was also interested in small birds....but maybe...
not for a picture!

The fimbriated dahlia 'Orange Impact' unexpectedly replaced a white dahlia in one of my spring orders. The huge flowers provide a welcome jolt of color to our front garden, especially on a hot sunny day.
Have a great start to the new week! Take care and stay safe. Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support -- I deeply appreciate it.

Hi there,
I saw a clump of wild vetch and thought it would be grand to take a few macros. Well, to my surprise I found a few blister beetles enjoying this wildflower. I knew that bees adored vetch, but had no idea that beetles would also be attracted to it. I suspect this to be the same type of beetle as yesterday's post, but the images were taken in two very different locations.
Thanks a million for looking and for leaving a comment. I love hearing from you!
Have a wonderful day!

Even when everything seems dark and lost,
even then, the unexpected can happen.
A hope of light, that will make you smile
and stand stronger on your feet.
As I continue to process images from my recently concluded trip to Kenya, I thought I'd post this image from a special encounter on my last trip with a hippo on land one very early morning. The grain in the image reflects the very early hour this image was taken, but it was still a rare and special site.

On my way home I came across this friendly looking moose. I grabbed my camera and managed to get 1 shot through the car window before it ran away. Why didn't I open that window ...

I thought it was so funny to see this place in Santorini with the table on the outside of the building so high up....a cool optical illusion! Last Caturday was dinner for one and this Caturday is dinner for two!

This group of Greater Flamingos were performing their mating dance and display for dominance in Camargue, France.
The two flamingos in the center of this photography get their necks entangled with each other.
They quickly worked it out and then the group continued to perform the dancing ritual.
There are nine different postures during the courtship display and from these postures, there are more than 100 possible transitions between the postures.
The dance is a beautiful group behavior to watch and listen to.

After a mainly dry, sunny intervals type of a day, suddenly late afternoon it began to become very overcast and dark, resulting in this totally unexpected hail shower, short but sweet
I was looking out a window on the east side of our house when I spotted this lovely barred owl in our big apple tree. I went out the west entrance and approached slowly. The owl stayed long enough for me to get some shots, then go back into the house and get my wife. We both enjoyed our visitor and hope to see it again (it flew away shortly, then came back after dark)

After a rainy, dark day around Aviemore it was a real bonus when a small gap in the clouds allowed the low sun to shine through at the end of the day. I was lucky to be in the vicinity of Loch Morlich so I rushed down to the beach to find it bathed in glorious, late light. The clouds over the Caingorms behind the trees really were this dark.

I was taking shots of egrets, heron, kingfishers and dragonflies, when this little spotted sandpiper landed on the branch where the green heron had been perching earlier. Nice to get a close look at this little one!
I was at Jackson Bottom in one of the spots where I often see song birds, when this one perched atop a tree. Thanks, KW Nature Photos , for the ID of American Kestrel!
