My friend from yesterday suddenly deciding he had enough and, as clearly evident from the photo, startled me in this action. A bad photo, I pondered whether to discard it but played with it a while as best I could and decided to keep it...if for no other reason than the memory. I would have "painted" it but my free processing sites have suddenly decided to ask for money for the privilege as they all eventually do. Actually, it looks a bit like "painting" anyway.

There are a couple of nice points...particularly around the feet where the water spray is nicely expressed. Larger shows it better.

I found a nice place with lots of small birds.

but they suddenly disappeared.i didn't understand why.

later I looked up and saw that I had an unexpected companion.

like me he was also interested in small birds....but maybe...

not for a picture!

The grain in the image reflects the very early hour this image was taken, but it was still a rare and special site.

An unexpected visitor from the Coral Sea. 2 years after my vacation in Australia, I wanted to photograph some shells. I noticed this little crab. Unfortunately it did not survive the trip to Germany:(.

After a mainly dry, sunny intervals type of a day, suddenly late afternoon it began to become very overcast and dark, resulting in this totally unexpected hail shower, short but sweet

My absence lasted a little longer than expected. Back from vacation, unexpected work on the garden turned out to be possible again....stones from the driveway removed and replaced with gravel for the parking space and borders for new plants.

Hope that now finally a quiet time will come. Happy start of your week ;-))

After a rainy, dark day around Aviemore it was a real bonus when a small gap in the clouds allowed the low sun to shine through at the end of the day. I was lucky to be in the vicinity of Loch Morlich so I rushed down to the beach to find it bathed in glorious, late light. The clouds over the Caingorms behind the trees really were this dark.

My dear Flickr friends,

Sorry for my absence these last weeks. I have been quite busy getting my own business (www.esthersfotografie.nl) of the ground.

This shot of the fox was an unexpected encounter. I was looking for foxes together with a colleague of mine. However we did not see them. We decided to look for other subjects to photograph and saw some grasshoppers. While we were taking photos of these beautiful small insects, I suddenly saw something moving at my leftside. As I looked up, I saw a fox at only one meter away. I softly said to my colleague not to be scared and I turned my camera immediately towards the fox which was apparantly very curious of what we were doing squatting in the long grass. And I was just thrilled to have my 50mm lens ready when needed.

The fox may have also been wondering why he was not the subject to be photographed. Anyway, the fox appeared very sudden, but also disappeared like winking.

I was taking shots of egrets, heron, kingfishers and dragonflies, when this little spotted sandpiper landed on the branch where the green heron had been perching earlier. Nice to get a close look at this little one!

Is there anything better for cheering a grey and chilly day than an unexpected ray of sunlight illuminating autumn leaves?

I was going for a walk with my camera near the ponds of Matthias Weiher in Trier and was expecting to capture water birds, but found this cute turtle instead! :)

Took this today, my first bird in flight capture. Not the most sharpest I admit but my goodness me, I was taking shot after shot at a distance of this Heron in a small river and then suddenly it opened up and just took off. I had seconds to respond so I am more or less happy with what I got. Never gotten a good enough capture of such a magnificent bird of such a size before.
