I needed a break from work so I took Friday off and walked around my favorite nature preserve. It was a day of calm with gentle rain and rich spring colors to die for. As I wandered for some seven hours, I saw deer (okay, only their white tails running away from me), a crane, a mama goose on her eggs, a group of wood ducks, and a variety of midwestern birds like this guy. We made eye contact and came to the simple understanding that I would sit still and make no sudden moves and he would pose like a model and give me every look in the book :-)

For everyone to share since a lot of this has been just glanced at without further thought, controversy and discussion.

Black holes are one of the most destructive forces in the universe, capable of tearing a planet apart and swallowing an entire star. Yet scientists now believe they could hold the key to answering the ultimate question - what was there before the Big Bang?

Understanding Napoli, in Italy

The Newtown Monuments consist of a large medieval cathedral, two monasteries and small church which date from 1206.

The descriptions that I have seen are a bit confusing in that most of them are different to a lesser or greater degree.

My current understanding is that the main building is the Church of St Peter and St Paul (sometimes called a cathedral). The smaller church in the east of the monastery is the parish church of Newtown Clonbun. This is the burial site of Lucas Dillon (c. 1530 – 1592), Attorney General for Ireland and Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer, and his first wife Jane Bathe. There is also a ’Tower House’ and a ‘Refectory’

The medieval cathedral [Cathedral and Priory Of Saints Peter and Paul] is situated in Newtown Cemetery. It was founded close to the temporal power of Trim Castle by the Norman Bishop Simon de Rochfort in c.1206 after his cathedral at Clonard was burned down. Only part of the original nave and chancel of this largest Gothic Church in Ireland survive. Part of the ruined Priory of Augustinian Canons, which were established to maintain the Cathedral, also survive.

Buried under the high alter of the cathedral are the remains of the founder Simon de Rochford (died 1224) and one of his successors, Bishop William Sherwood, who died in 1428.

The figure of the bishop now affixed to the wall of the cathedral was long trodden underfoot and was badly worn in places. The figure is commonly known as ‘king john's daughter' but is probably the figure of Simon de Rochford the founder of the cathedral.

In the parish church in Newtown-Clonbun stands the remains of the tomb of Sir Lucas Dillon and his wife Lade Jane Bathe, daughter of James Bathe of Athcarne and Drunmconrath. The recumbent figures of Sir Lucas in Renaissance armour and his wife in Elizabethian gown surmount the tomb. This tomb is known locally as the tomb of the jealous man and woman because the two figures do not touch each other at all. And also the sword of state separates the figures.

"Understanding Society" is the main theme of Tilburg University in the southern province of Noord Brabant of The Netherlands. But there's only so much 'understanding' a visiting committee can take in at one sitting. So we went on a couple of pleasant walks through the spaciously laid out campus. There's a wonderful, rectangular pond with modern sculpture, and walking in the low, bright sun rays this view delighted our eyes: truly Blazing Autumnal Waters. My precise little Sony T900 recorded what we saw as faithfully as I remember it...

A bit facetiously it might be added that the ciitzens of Tilburg are proud to ply their once offensive nickname of "Kruikezeikers" (Pot-pissers). Tilburg grew from various impoverished hamlets where sheep grazing was the main occupation. The wool was then shipped out to other places. But in early-modern times, households began their own wool industry, taking textile making into their own hands, as it were. Hardly a home could be found without a loom. Industry-size millhouses were established in the nineteenth century, and Tilburg became the wool and textile capital of the Netherlands. In former times, urine was necessary for wool-processing, and it was collected in earthenware jars. Hence that Tilburg epitheton (now fashionably) ornans!

Incidentally, it was this kind of industry that Karl Marx decried in the nineteenth century and led him to write "Das Kapital". Students of the then still Catholic University in 1969 for a short time effected a change of name for their institution, calling it Karl Marx Universiteit.

Whatever the case, after our little stretching of the legs we again turned to "Understanding Society".

We have the Winter Solstice coming up soon so I am going to try to explain what it is all about. We all know there is 24 hours in a day so what is this Shortest Day all about.

The reason we have any seasons is because the earth has a 23.5 degree tilt. In the summer months the sun shines directly on our USA country, in the Winter we get the weak angular rays. This country averages well over 100 degrees difference.

In July Death Valley can be well over 100 degrees. In winter much of the North is hovering around zero.

What makes all the difference is the latitude where you live. On the longest day in June, Seattle gets about 13 hours of sunlight, while Miami gets around 11. Norway is called the land of the Midnight sun. In Summer the sun goes below the horizon for only about 40 minutes, then it is up again. In Barrow, Alaska, the sun goes down on November 18th and it comes up again 67 days later on January 23rd.

I hope this has helped to explain some of the mysteries associated with the Solstice.

“A.I. - About Apple’s Identity”

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...

---

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?

I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.

Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.

Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.

With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.

This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.

Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.

In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.

What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.

The true creator was Jonathan Ive.

A minority of people may share this perspective with me.

However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.

The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.

Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.

It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.

I have always loved music.

Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.

It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.

And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.

(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)

Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.

It was those artists who moved me to my core.

The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.

Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.

In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.

Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.

Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.

I have written at length, but here is the key article:

**Tim Cook Donates Over $1.5 Million to Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony**

🔗 [Gigazine Article](gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...)

At first glance, this might make it seem like Tim Cook, like other tech CEOs, has sold his soul. But that is not the case.

While Cook personally donated to Trump, Apple itself did not follow the same path as other companies.

Apple refused to bow to Trump.

If asked what Apple’s ideology truly is, I would answer this:

**Apple is a group of individuals who believe in themselves.**

Steve Jobs, watching from heaven, is probably chuckling at this overly serious text I wrote.

A company that does not pander to Trump—

That is Apple. :)

After reading a heartwarming article.

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.

youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.

On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.

Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.

If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.

The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.

My wife is showing us the hotel room.

But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.

When I played the DVD that arrived, it showed footage of our arrival in the Bahamas.

Please take a look if you'd like.

This time, we asked Fujifilm to make the DVD.

I'll post the link below.

Notice regarding "Lot No.402_”.

From now on I will host "Lot No.402_".

The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.

That is the number when it was put up for auction.

No sign was written on the work.

So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.

However # as a result of various appraisals # it was exposed to the sun.

A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.

I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

### **Synopsis**

Kei Kitami, a student preparing for university entrance exams, meets Kaori Kamimura, an event companion six years his senior, through social media.

Kaori has come to Tokyo with a dream—to befriend famous artists.

To achieve this, she needs the influence of Ryo Osawa, a well-known radio producer.

During a live radio broadcast, Osawa speaks directly to Kaori:

*"I have a wife and child. But still, I want to see you."*

Meanwhile, Rika Sanjo, Kei’s classmate who secretly harbors feelings for him, is closely watching Kaori’s every move...

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...

gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...

youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp

During my trip in Andalucia, we stopped by an ex train station. The railway were converted into a bike trail, and the train station become a stop for bikers and tourists. This was very suggestive. Inside that stop, I saw this old chariot with various kind of pumpkins. I think It deserve to take a shoot.

...understanding and respecting our ancestory................

These masks were originally created by us for our Capoeira opening ceremony performance called ROOTS at the Førde International Folkmusic Festival in Norway last year. The presentation was a great success as were these masks, which are now being incorporated with AfroBreak's latest dance production called Tribal Union.

I ask everyone to respect this page.

I do not want this to be used for a struggle of good against evil.

A fight Isreal-Iran or Israel-Palestine.

Á proper channels for this.

This page is ara to reveal a bit of Israel.

Thank you all for understanding

Is a country in Western Asia located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Lebanon in the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan in the east, and Egypt on the southwest, and contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area.[6] Also adjacent are the West Bank to the east and Gaza Strip to the southwest. Israel is the world's only predominantly Jewish state with a population of about 7.5 million people, of whom approximately 5.7 million are Jewish. The largest ethnic minority group is the segment denominated as Arab citizens of Israel, while minority religious groups include Muslims, Christians, Druze, Samaritans, most of whom are found within the Arab segment.

The modern state of Israel has its historical and religious roots in the Biblical Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael), also known as Zion, a concept central to Judaism since ancient times, and the heartland of the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Following the birth of political Zionism in 1897 and the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations granted Great Britain the Mandate for Palestine after World War I, with responsibility for establishing "...such political, administrative and economic conditions as will secure the establishment of the Jewish national home, as laid down in the preamble, and the development of self-governing institutions, and also for safeguarding the civil and religious rights of all the inhabitants of Palestine, irrespective of race and religion..."

In November 1947, the United Nations voted in favor of the partition of Palestine, proposing the creation of a Jewish state, an Arab state and a UN-administered Jerusalem. Partition was accepted by Zionist leaders but rejected by Arab leaders leading to the 1947–1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine. Israel declared independence on 14 May 1948 and neighboring Arab states attacked the next day. Since then, Israel has fought a series of wars with neighboring Arab states, and in consequence occupies territories beyond those delineated in the 1949 Armistice Agreements. Some international borders remain in dispute. Israel has signed peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan, though efforts to resolve conflict with the Palestinians have so far only met with limited success.

Israel is a developed country and a representative democracy with a parliamentary system and universal suffrage. The Prime Minister serves as head of government and the Knesset serves as Israel's legislative body. The economy, based on the nominal gross domestic product, was the 41st-largest in the world in 2008. Israel ranks highest among Middle Eastern countries on the UN Human Development Index, and has one of the highest life expectancies in the world. Jerusalem is the country's capital, although it is not recognized internationally as such,[a] while Israel's main financial center is Tel Aviv.

Over the past three thousand years, the name "Israel" has meant in common and religious usage both the Land of Israel and the entire Jewish nation. According to the Bible, Jacob is renamed Israel after successfully wrestling with an angel of God.

The earliest archaeological artifact to mention "Israel" (other than as a personal name) is the Merneptah Stele of ancient Egypt (dated the late 13th century BCE), which refers to a people of that name. The modern country was named Medinat Yisrael, or the State of Israel, after other proposed names, including Eretz Israel ("the Land of Israel"), Zion, and Judea, were rejected. In the early weeks of independence, the government chose the term "Israeli" to denote a citizen of Israel, with the formal announcement made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moshe Sharett.

Capital city:

Jerusalem

Meaning country name:

Israel takes its name from the biblical patriarch Jacob, later known as Israel, literally meaning "struggled with God/he struggles with God". According to the account in the Book of Genesis, Jacob wrestled with a stranger (in later tradition said to have been an angel) at a river ford and won through perseverance. God then changed his name to Israel signifying that he had deliberated with God and won as he had wrestled and won with men.

Description Flag:

The flag of Israel was adopted on October 28, 1948, five months after the country's establishment. It depicts a blue Star of David on a white background, between two horizontal blue stripes. The blue color is mandated only as "dark sky-blue", and varies from flag to flag, ranging from a hue of pure blue, sometimes shaded almost as dark as navy blue, to hues about 75% toward pure cyan and shades as light as very light blue. The flag was designed for the Zionist Movement in 1891. The basic design recalls the Tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl, which is white with blue stripes. The hexagram in the centre is the Magen David ("shield of David"). It became a Jewish symbol starting in late medieval Prague, and was adopted by the First Zionist Congress in 1897.

Coat of arms:

The coat of arms of Israel shows a menorah surrounded by an olive branch on each side, and the writing "ישראל" (Hebrew for Israel) below it. While the background of the emblem is always blue, the menorah and olive branches can be either white or golden. The white-on-blue version appears on the presidential standard, while the gold-on-blue version is the common one when showing the emblem independently.

The State of Israel adopted its coat of arms after a design competition held in 1948. The design is based on the winning entry submitted by Gabriel and Maxim Shamir's proposal, with elements taken from other submissions, such as Oteh Walisch and W. Struski's and Itamar David and Yerachmiel Schechter's entries.

The image seems as if borrowed from the Zachariah (chapter 4); "I looked and behold a golden menorah with a bowl upon the top of it and seven lamps to it…and there are two olive trees by it, one upon the right of the bowl the other upon the left." However it is unclear whether this resemblance is intended or merely coincidental. The Shamir brothers did not mention this passage from Zachariah as the source of their design, even though they gave detailed account on their work in an interview to Maariv (February 16, 1949).

The menorah has been a symbol of Judaism for almost 3000 years. It was used in the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. The olive branches symbolize peace.

We saw this monument a couple of days ago, and I didn’t really know then if / how I would share this. It represents one of my “watershed” moments, when the past, the present and the future explode into a singular crystal-clear understanding of how things work. The first of these moments was in Cape Town, South Africa, after reading the simple statement at a museum that South African only became a true democracy when apartheid ended. Part of my immense admiration for Prime Minister John DIefenbaker stems from the fact that he had the courage to push through legislation in 1960 that gave Canada’s Aboriginals the ability to vote in elections, something prohibited under the old Indian Act of the day. Canada only became a true democracy in 1960. The watershed moment then was that Canada until then had been existing until 1960 in a state of apartheid just like South Africa.

This recent watershed moment was that a specific object like a bush plane could have radically different interpretations, depending on your own history and genealogy. To understand the pain that permeates the text here is to know a little about Canada’s residential school system, which is as old as Canada itself. Legislation was enacted early on allowing the government to remove children from Aboriginal families and have them taught in European-style residential schools. To put it bluntly, the schools literally tried to beat the Indian-ness out of the students. Although this sounds a bit harsh, it was in fact one of cruelest things a government could do its own people. Today it is understood that this school system was an act of genocide, one that continued the policies that had been started under British rule primarily through the destruction of the buffalo. The last of the residential schools ended in the 1980’s, and so for the last 50 years of the system, bush planes had been the instrument used to sever children from their parents, some who never see each other again, as not all children survived the schools, and not all parents survived being without their children. Or if they did, neither parent nor child would be the same person for the indignity and cruelty they suffered.

It may seem that Canada is painted here in an awful light, and this only portrays a small part this sad part of our history. But I believe, however, that the same can be demonstrated in every country in Western Europe, as well as in Russia, the U.S.A., China, Japan and elsewhere. Whether it is Buckingham Palace, the Louvre, the Empire State Building, the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, etc etc, each of the empires which generated these marvels was built on the backs and from the blood of serfs, child-workers, slaves, and countless underclasses. As a result, today we have the immigration crisis out of Asian and African to Europe, and we have Black Lives Matter. None of us is exempt, none of us is not-guilty.

Goethe's approach to understanding nature: quotes from his writings

“After what I have seen of plants and fish in Naples and Sicily, I would be tempted — were I ten years younger — to undertake a journey to India, not to discover something new, but to view in my way what has been discovered.”Goethe (CH; Letter to Knebel, summer 1787)

“If we want to behold nature in a living way, we must follow her example and becomes as mobile and malleable as nature herself.”Goethe (CH; in Miller, p. 64)“There is a delicate empiricism that makes itself utterly identical with the object, thereby becoming true theory. But this enhancement of our mental powers belongs to a highly evolved age.”Goethe (in Miller, p. 307)“... Dr. Heinroth speaks favorably of my work; in fact, he calls my approach unique, for he says that my thinking works objectively. Here he means that my thinking is not separate from objects; that the elements of the object, the perceptions of the object, flow into my thinking and are fully permeated by it; that my perception itself is a thinking, and my thinking a perception.”Goethe (in Miller, p. 39)“If I look at the created object, inquire into its creation, and follow this process back as far as I can, I will find a series of steps. Since these are not actually seen together before me, I must visualize them in my memory so that they form a certain ideal whole.”At first I will tend to think in terms of steps, but nature leaves no gaps, and thus, in the end, I will have to see this progression of uninterrupted activity as a whole. I can do so by dissolving the particular without destroying the impression ...“If we imagine the outcome of these attempts, we will see that empirical observation finally ceases, inner beholding of what develops begins, and the idea can be brought to expression.”Goethe (in Miller p. 75)“[Morphology's] intention is to portray rather than explain.”Goethe (in Miller p. 57)“We conceive of the individual animal as a small world, existing for its own sake, by its own means. Every creature is its own reason to be. All its parts have a direct effect on one another, a relationship to one another, thereby constantly renewing the circle of life; thus we are justified in considering every animal physiologically perfect. Viewed from within, no part of the animal — as so often thought — is a useless or arbitrary product of the formative impulse.”Goethe (in Miller, p. 121) Goethe on Experimentation and Making Judgments (From “The Experiment as Mediator Between Object and Subject,” written in 1772; in Miller pp. 11-17.) “We can never be too careful in our efforts to avoid drawing hasty conclusions from experiments or using them directly as proof to bear out some theory. For here at this pass, this transition from empirical evidence to judgment, cognition to application, all the inner enemies of man lie in wait: imagination, which sweeps him away on his wings before he knows his feet have left the ground; impatience; haste; self-satisfaction; rigidity; formalistic thought; prejudice; ease; frivolity; fickleness — this whole throng and its retinue. Here they lie in ambush and surprise not only the active observer but also the contemplative one who appears safe from all passion.”

“I would venture to say we cannot prove anything by one experiment or even several experiments together, that nothing is more dangerous than the desire to prove some thesis directly through experiments. ... Every piece of empirical evidence we find, every experiment in which this evidence is repeated, really represents just one part of what we know. ... Every piece of empirical evidence, every experiment, must be viewed as isolated, yet the human faculty of thought forcibly strives to unite all external objects known to it. ...”

“We often find that the more limited the data, the more artful a gifted thinker will become. As though to assert his sovereignty he chooses a few agreeable favorites from the limited number of facts and skillfully marshals the rest so they never contradict him directly. Finally he is able to confuse, entangle, or push aside the opposing facts and reduce the whole to something more like the court of a despot than a freely constituted republic.”

Just seeing the bird is not enough for a photographer, understanding the behaviour so that you can plan your approach, get ready to press that shutter at the right moment, visualize where exactly you want to make the image, being in the correct angle (as much as possible) and having the light direction figured out is also very important. When I was starting my wildlife journey someone wise told me "If you cant out-witt your subject you cant make a good image". Learn the skill to outwitt them". Good Luck.

The event was to understand the Value of Fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan. During the event 20+ individuals decided to embrace Islam as their religion.

Buttercup bokeh..... all gone now as the grass just had to be cut before it became an impossible job :( I need to create a meadow somewhere......

Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is always tomorrow.

I want to thank everyone who has purchased my images. At times, these sales have helped me get through some of the challenges I have faced. And, it has enabled me to donate some of my work to clinics that serve the poor in Virginia. Tomorrow, I will be taking a large framed print to the Johnson Clinic in Lynchburg. Thanks to all of your support I have been able to embark on this project which I have called Vision of Hope.

Again, I want to thank everyone and I want you to know that this project is because of you more than me.

Last night I got such a heartwarming phone call from this sweet old lady from a Women's Club around here. She called to let me know that the district photography contest I entered in, my photo won first place. (:

I'm in love with this song lately.

I finally ordered "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. I've used the weekend to do a deep dive into the content. This is truly an amazing book which all beginning photogs should read. The book is very easy to understand and I have found several "ah-aah" moments. Within the chapter titled "Aperture" the author demonstrates how to shoot oil on water. This looked pretty simple for even me to do. Above is the result of the experiment. I was pretty impressed with the colors and patterns. This almost has a galactic quality. For any of you that are having trouble to find something to shoot, give this a try...you may be surprised with the results.

"All beings with two, three, four, or five senses.... in fact all creation, know individually pleasure and displeasure, pain, terror, and sorrow.

All are full of fears which come from all directions. And yet there exist people who would cause greater pain to them...

Some kill animals for sacrifice, some for their skin, flesh, blood, ... feathers, teeth, or tusks; ... some kill them intentionally and some unintentionally; some kill because they have been previously injured by them, ... and some because they expect to be injured.

He who harms animals has not understood or renounced deeds of sin...

He who understands the nature of sin against animals is called a true sage who understands karma... "

A few hours ago I went back to take a few pictures of those huge Jain thirthankaras (saints) rockcut statues on the way to Gwalior Fort.

This is a close-up of the hand of one of the 24 statues which are standing there since the seventh century a.d..

It belongs to the tallest (about 20 meters) and it is overlooking the city of Gwalior which is located the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
