Posters on a wall in the Guangdu district of Kunming City, China, warn parents of the human trafficers gangs that prey on the young boys in the area. Thousands of migrant mothers' children have been stolen and sold to rich families desperate for a boy. Families are limited to a single child under the China's ruthless One Child Policy.

Better data is becoming available on economic activity within countries, often much exceeding the available information of economic activity across countries. This creates new research opportunities for testing economic theory, analyzing market structures and the sources of market segmentation, and making predictions of how economic shocks propagate across space. The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers from urban economics, industrial organization, health economics, and international trade to study production and trade within and across countries.

Fun with Aperture, Shutter Speed and Metering!

The photo on the left was shot with auto exposure. The entire hallway appears darker than real life because the exposure is compensating for the brightness of the opening ahead.

The photo on the right was shot by metering the area of the wall above the opening, changing the shutter speed until the meter indicated a correct exposure, then recomposing the picture to straight ahead. Because I metered the light reflecting off the walls of the hallway instead of straight ahead toward the opening, the walls of the hallway are better exposed.

Cullman’s Steve James has experienced the excruciatingly crushing, unthinkable loss of a child.

In return, he has given hope, understanding, and voice to so many. His impact on the world through acts of loving kindness are quite extraordinary. As Mother Teresa once said, “Prayer in Action is love, love in action is service.” Steve James and Kenya Relief truly embody this belief and way of being.

When Steve arrived in Kenya, he was completely shocked.

There were people living in dire circumstances without medical care that you and I take for granted. Imagine streets lined with coffins at the height of the HIV crisis, when life expectancy was only 36 years. Think of someone you know in their 30’s. Maybe it’s you. Can you imagine having no hope of living to be wrinkly and gray?

Forty percent of women child-bearing age had HIV, leaving behind many orphans to wander the streets scared, hungry and alone. With the lack of education, birth control methods, and access to medical treatment, the people in this impoverished environment suffered greatly. There were a lot of teachers and middle-aged income-generating people dying. The lack of clean water was also making people sick.

Today, Kenya Relief provides medical treatment and surgery to those in need for FREE, or at a very low cost. They house 175 orphans in Brittney’s Home of Grace (named after Steve and Greta’s daughter) 7 or 8 orphans in vocational training, and 10 orphans in the university. They have a safe, top-notch school that nurtures young minds (570 to be exact) and tests among the top in the area. Kenya Relief has brought clean water to the residents, mobility assistance to people who are so severely disabled that they have to crawl because that is their only means of getting around. They are giving hope to people and they are blessing others because it is who they are and it is the heart of their mission.

How Can You Help?

We’re glad that you asked. You can do a number of things to be helpful:

★ Pray for Kenya Relief

★ Volunteer (learn how at www.KenyaRelief.org)

★ Contribute financially (PayPal)

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

We want to thank you for your interest in our work and thanks for visiting our work on Flickr, we do appreciate you and the contributions you make in furthering our interest in photography and on social media in general.

Photo: Signing of the Tunisian Charter of Honour, 22 July 2014.

Source: Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD)

HD has been discreetly and informally active in Tunisia since 2011, interacting with stakeholders to foster mutual understanding and consensus around the democratic transition process. In particular, HD has been supporting inclusive dialogue between political parties to ensure tensions and violence did not derail the delicate transition process.

HD’s efforts culminated in July 2014 with the signing by 19 of the main Tunisian political parties of the Charter of Honour on the fair conduct of elections in the country. The Charter was elaborated and adopted by Tunisia’s main political parties in a process facilitated by HD, which lasted almost eight months. The Charter was pivotal to ensuring that both the parliamentary elections held in October 2014 and the presidential elections held in November-December 2014 took place in good conditions and that the normal competition witnessed in all electoral campaigns did not risk jeopardising the electoral process itself.

Diverse stakeholders met in Addis Ababa June 12-14, 2019 for the Global Challenges Programme (GCP) 4, with eight CSA projects spanning Eastern Africa.

The objective of GCP4, a partnership between NWO-WOTRO, CCAFS and F&BKP, is to promote research based advanced understanding of emerging key issues in global and regional food security, their impact on local food security and the role of private sector development. The aim of the fourth call is to contribute to business models, incentives and innovative finance for scaling CSA.

From my understanding this species no longer breeds in the UK. I know I have only seen a handful of sightings on the coast, Spurn, Gibraltar Point etc. So, I am very fortunate to have this species has a common breeder in my area, here. I would say it is still thriving so to speak here in SK. I have even seen it from my balcony.

These shots were from (obviously a nesting pair) in the vineyards. The vineyards cover the lower slopes of the whole Carpathian Mountains (I would reckon more on big hills than mountains). Often areas are left unattended, its these areas where the birds thrive. This includes a whole range of different species.

Within one area of vineyards I would reckon the size of half a football pitch, I found signs of at least three nests.

So coming to the photographs, I positioned my hide the evening before on dusk. Placed a few desired perches and left the site. Returning the following morning. I was able to shoot these birds with the minimal disturbance. I know I commented something similar on a previous upload. But this isn't something I have done before, when birdwatching. Its such a wonderful experience to be able to witness the behavior of this magnificent species up close.

I tried my best this time, but still managed to upload eight images. I just can't bring myself to post just one image, hope you don't mind :)

The hand of the clock holds the present, while the young and old faces contrast to portray the past and the future

Today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to support the removal of barriers to trade between their two provinces. This latest MOU follows the recent signings of MOUs in support of free trade with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, as well as the recent introduction of the Protect Ontario Through Free Trade Within Canada Act. This act is a nation-leading piece of legislation designed to break down barriers to the free trade of goods and services and the movement of qualified, in-demand workers throughout Canada, to help Ontario and Canada withstand the impact of U.S. tariffs and whatever other challenges may come our way.
