Day 47 - 365 - Something that makes you Laugh - This is a stray dog that showed up on my door step yesterday morning. It is a Bichon Frise, about 8 years old. It was cold and wet and she was limping and shivering. She was full of sand-spurs throughout her body in her fur, as well as between all her pads on her paws. I cleaned her up, cut her bangs, and let her take a long nap. Her little face is so funny it makes me laugh; seems her nose is too big and a strange color. It also makes me laugh that animals always seem to know where to come for help. Here I go again!
They can be so vigilant!
You can really see Maci's bad underbite here! But honestly...it makes Maci....Maci.
Sis and me and the family pets. I think we were about 8 and 10 respectively, which would have made this 1987.

not mine;
its a long story.we faught for months trying to save him but he'd been seen by a vet a few times;so the law said it wasnt considered neglect if a vet had seen him. he couldnt eat;because of his teeth..or lack of them. he had an underbite of at least 2 1/2 inches.
RIP Quincey
This is SamSam. And he is soooo cute. He's got a little underbite that makes it look kinda like he's always smiling, while also looking a little lost and confused. You really can't blame the little guy.
My sister-in-law in North Carolina called us last week asking if we were interested in getting another Yorkie, as Sam was days away from being dropped off at the pound by an overwhelmed dogsitter. Of course, we agreed- intending him to be a playmate for Riley (which we always thought he'd needed). Unfortunately, being 5 years older and nearly twice his size, Sam was not all that interested in our little plan. Riley also seemed intimidated by having Sam at my place, where there were less people around to play and pick him up.
Over the last few days, Riley has spent a lot of time in hiding. We are sure that some of Sam's issues stem from being shuffled around a lot in the last 2 weeks, and he likely has some abandonment issues as well. He just hasn't had anything stable/normal/routine for a while. And while I'm very sorry that kind of environment won't be provided for him here, but he's getting very close to it.
My dad and stepmom are currently visiting from Arkansas, and she has always wanted
a small dog. They are smitten with Sam, and will be taking him home with them on Wednesday morning. Sam will join a few kitties and a wuss of a Border Collie to boss around. And since my dad & stepmom are retired, one of them will nearly always be home with him, which is what he is used to (having originally come from a home where he was cared for by a stay-at-home elderly couple).
I truly am sad to see him go, and would have liked a few more weeks to try and help Sam and Riley adjust to each other; but since my dad and stepmom are here NOW, I have to make the decision NOW. And I know they'll give him a good home, which is what's most important. Plus, I'll get to see him the next time I head west for a visit.
This handsome guy with the adorable underbite is HAROLD, an approximately one year old Carolina Dog/Cattle Dog mix. He’s a friendly, playful young dog who’s a little unsure of himself, but he loves to chase a ball and play with his toys, and focuses very nicely when food treats are on offer :-) He likes other dogs. Harold is looking for a loving, committed home where he’ll have good guidance and a consistent routine.
Harold lives in Kennel 33.

EDMUND
Edmund isn't handsome
And he's saddled with the plight
Of always drooling due to
A horrendous underbite!
~
But given the right person
He would make the greatest pet
With one small stipulation...
Not to mind if they get wet!

Hey, it's the mom of our sandwich puppies, Club, Grinder, BLT, Monte Cristo and Ruben. She's got the same cute underbite as her daughter Club.

Hi everyone! My name is Marjorie! Don't let the serious face fool you, I am a happy girl with a friendly, loving personality. I am an absolute delight and a couch potato in the making. I am about 4 years old and I weigh 45 lbs. I love taking walks and playing in the yard. When playtime is over, I am perfectly content to lounge and spend time with my people. I love being petted and scratched. I have the best underbite - so much personality that I make people smile all the time. When it's time for cuddles, I will lean in and melt into you for affection and a well-deserved belly rub. I just love to love. I also like to roll in the grass, meet new humans and wag my tail so hard that it hits me in the belly. I like treats a lot - any kind, any time, any place. I will sit on command like a good girl. I will chase a ball, tag it with my nose, then it's your job to go get it; afterall, you're the one who threw it. I walk pretty well on a leash -- I have places to go and friends to meet. I am very interested in playing with other dogs. I haven't met a "cat" yet, but if you have cats, I know a couple hoomans that would temperament test me. Come on people, help a girl out and get me a home! Please and thank you, because I am polite as can be. Please give me a chance to become part of your family! Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance and microchip. Apply online at www.pawsforliferescue.org

Magnolia is Ginger's grandmother. Both Smokey and Magnolia were show winners. Ginger was always gorgeous to us, but she had an underbite that would have disqualified her from show. We took Ginger as a pet companion.
